Chapter 3: Work in Progress
Reggie and Lucy's comments to Jenkins raise more questions than answers. Who is behind this mysterious note?
In order to get to the bottom of this mystery, Reggie and Lucy decide to visit Reggie's uncle, Archibald Bottomsworth. Archibald is a wealthy businessman and a rival of Reggie's father. He is known for his cruelty and deception, and Reggie suspects he may have been involved in the theft of the necklace. When Reggie arrives at the Archibald mansion, he is disappointed. The house is beautiful and ornate, with high ceilings and marble floors. But despite its wealth, the house looked shabby and dirty.
Archibald ushered them into his study, a large room with a fireplace and a table. He is tall and thin, with a bald head and a pointed chin. He looked at Reggie and Lucy with longing and hatred in his eyes.
"What can I do for you, Reggie?" Archibald asked, his tone full of sarcasm.
Reggie got straight to the point. "I am investigating the details of the theft of the Bottomsworth diamond necklace," he said. "I heard you had been planning the theft."
Archibald raised his eyebrows. "Project?" he answered again. "I don't know what you're talking about, Reggie."
Lucy spoke. "We are aware of the dispute between your family and the Bottonsworth family," he said. "We are also aware that you have been trying to obtain this necklace for a number of years."
Archibald smiled, a cold smile. "You're very clever, Lucy," he said. "But you're wrong again. I may have been in love with Bottom's Worth before, but I tell you, I had nothing to do with the theft of the necklace."
Reggie couldn't believe it. He pressed Archibald for more information, but the old man refused to budge. It was obvious he was hiding something, but Reggie couldn't tell what.
As they left the Archibald house, Reggie turned to Lucy. "What were you doing there?" he asked.
A smile appeared on Lucy's face. "I don't believe him," he said. "He's hiding something, but I don't know what."
Reggie nodded. "I agree." We'll have to keep digging to see if we can find more information. "
Their next stop was a local art gallery, hoping to find out more about the inscription. The building is a small space, a new space with new artwork. Reggie and Lucy talk to the store owner, a friendly woman named Sophia, who tells them that she did receive a note with the same message.
"But I didn't think too much about it," Sophia said. "I get all kinds of messages and requests. "I just thought it was kind of funny."
Reggie narrowed his eyes. "Can you show me this document?" he asked.
Sofia just nodded and cleaned out her desk drawers. He pulled out a piece of paper with a message written on it in red ink.
"Same message," Lucy said, looking directly at the note. "It's the same person."
Reggie's thoughts were racing. Who is the mastermind behind these documents? Regardless, he was determined to investigate.
After leaving the gallery, Reggie turned to Lucy. "I think we should call the police," he said. "Let's talk to them about these records and see if they can help us track down the perpetrators."
Lucy nodded. "I agree, let's go."Chapter 3: Work in Progress
