Riley
I can see why Danny's Cafe is a popular date spot. It's so cozy and warm.
"Sorry I'm late. The meeting I had went on much longer than I thought."
"Don't worry about it. So, what's this about, Josh?"
"It's about Xavier."
"What about him?"
He sighs. "I'm afraid you're going to marry a monster."
"Excuse you?!"
"Xavier's dangerous, Riley. You have to listen to me."
I scoff. "You've got to be kidding me. So, you know Xavier more than I do? I'll pretend this never happened."
I get up to leave.
"He instigated an attempted murder on Kate."
I quickly sit back down. "What?"
"Riley, he's not the person you think he is."
"Nah, that's not possible. I-I don't believe you."
He brings out a memory card. "Just look at what's inside."
I look back at him. "Then what?"
"Huh?"
"Let's say you're right, Josh. Then what? I call off my engagement?"
"Are you seriously still gonna get married to a murderer?"
"Is he a murderer though?" I raise my eyebrow at him.
"Riley."
"I see Kate put you up to this."
"Call me when you take a look at it." He gets up and leaves.
My Xavi is not a murderer. Nah, he's wrong.
I place the memory card inside my tablet as Mark drives me back to Xavier's place. I press play as I adjust my airpods in my ears.
It's a video of Kate being manhandled and beaten to a pulp. She walks as fast as she can when they tell her to run before they catch her. As Kate runs away, the two burly guys that kidnapped her receive a call to which they reply with 'Yes, boss. We're teaching her a lesson as we speak. Don't worry, Xavier, sir. You can trust us. She won't get out of this alive.'
Nah. I know Xavier, he wouldn't stoop so low. I'm sure he's being framed. Yes, that's the only plausible explanation.
My phone rings, which startles me. It's Xavi!
"We've got a problem, Xavi."
