Chapter 32 - Verdict

Autumn was in full swing, and so was the anticipation for the Xavier Banks trial that was going to be held that morning. Since the Banks are one influential family and the trial regarding their only son concerned murder, it was no surprise that the country was in an uproar. They wanted the rich heir to pay dearly for what he did.

Citizens worldwide were in full support, having the victim's back. Be it on the Internet or on different news channels, Kate was trending. Words of comfort and encouragement were given to her considering the torture she went through at the hands of Xavier Banks.

The Banks's name was drugged through the mud. Since Riley and her family were also related by a possible future marriage arrangement to the Banks, it was no surprise that they were also not spared from the people's wrath.

The court was now in session as the judge sat down. The man in question pledged innocence, which angered the reporters who were filming the whole trial live and other concerned citizens in attendance. The judge knew he had a hectic trial ahead of him.

When the time came for the victim, a.k.a Kate, to testify against him, she broke down in tears, mentioning how she still couldn't believe that her very boss did this to her. Everyone pitied the poor soul, having the urge to ensure that the judge won't give Xavier Banks the lightest sentence just because he's from a conglomerate family.

To make matters worse for Xavier Banks, the two kidnappers also testified against him. Things weren't looking good for him. Even Riley's statement to prove his alibi wasn't holding much weight with the evidence that was incriminating Xavier.

"Defendant, is that all you have?" The judge asked.

Xavier's lawyer looked at his client and nodded his head, before speaking up. "We have one more witness I would like to call to the stand."

"I object, your honour!" The prosecutor announced.

"Objection overruled." The Judge said.

"I'd like to call Mr. Josh Lambert to the stand."

Kate was shocked. How could her Josh be siding with the enemy. What if he exposed her?

The judge ordered for silence with how the crowd of spectators were murmuring among themselves.

Josh took the oath and was ready for questioning. He revealed what he knew and found out about the supposed 'kidnapping'.

"Are you saying that Miss Kate Anderson here, faked the kidnapping, planted fake evidence to incriminate Mr. Xavier Banks?"

"Yes." The crowd went in an uproar. No one could believe what they heard.

"That is all, your honour."

The Defendant went back to his seat, smirking. Despite his order for silence, the crowd didn't calm down.
