Chapter 4 - Forest

The next day, Wang, Elder Yun, and the top twenty talents of the village went to the forest for training.

The training was simple: the elders would lure monsters from the forest, then kill them slowly in front of the younger generation. This method allowed the younger ones to observe the battle, learn the monster's fighting patterns, weaknesses, and how to eliminate them.

Of course, students could also participate using magical equipment or artifacts. These tools convert the user's spiritual energy to release great magical effects, like controlling the wind or launching fire and ice balls.

It is known that ordinary humans don't possess spiritual energy, so they borrow it from nature.

Spiritual energy can also be stored to release a powerful strike in times of danger, but such a strike negatively affects the tool itself.

Naturally, these tools were extremely expensive and weren't used unless absolutely necessary.

When they reached the forest, Elder Yun stopped and pointed to a nearby spot, saying, "Alright, we'll stop here."

After that, Wang entered the forest to lure the monster.

Luring monsters was harder than killing them because you have to maintain your speed to avoid losing sight of the monster or getting eaten.

After half an hour, the trainees heard a rustling sound coming from the forest.

Immediately, Elder Yun's expression changed, and he took a step. Then Wang dashed out from behind the bushes, but he wasn't alone—there was a massive monster, nearly as tall as Mr. Wang, resembling a giant rat, with pearl-like red eyes and black fur mixed with fresh blood from a deep wound on its back.

"Hell Rats!!" shouted one of the trainees in a low voice, not wanting the monster to hear and approach them.

The strength of Hell Rats is calculated based on the number of pearls on their forehead. These rats are born with almost transparent eyes, and as they mature, their eyes turn into red pearls.

An ordinary person could face a rat with two red pearls. But if there were four pearls, only the strong could fight them. There's another kind of rat that has six red pearls, and only farmers can face them, or if five or six of Mr. Wang's group gather together.

Mr. Wang and Elder Yun started fighting this rat, which had four red pearls on its forehead. The battle lasted more than half an hour, as Mr. Wang and Elder Yun were holding back so the trainees could observe closely.

"Old Yun is really strong, is he really injured?" asked one of the trainees.

"I think he's recovered from his injury," another speculated.

While the young trainees watched the intense battle, Rune focused on the surrounding area, as he hadn't found anything entertaining to do. He occasionally glanced at the fight.

As the battle neared its end, Rune's expression changed slightly, and he looked at the forest carefully. After one second, a sound and whispers filled the entire forest, as around two hundred newly born Hell Rats rushed out and started charging toward the students, Elder Yun, and Mr. Wang.

"Run!!" shouted one of the trainees.

"You must have lured the mother!" Elder Yun shouted.

Mr. Wang had been doing this for over forty years—how could he make such a simple mistake?

"It doesn't matter, the safety of the students is the priority." Mr. Wang thought to himself. He left Elder Yun to deal with the adult Hell Rat and went to prevent the smaller rats from reaching the students.

But how could he stop such a huge number of rats? He could stop at most a quarter of them, but the remaining rats sneaked up behind him and charged toward the students.

"Run quickly, they're coming!" shouted one of the students, fleeing with all their might.

All twenty students ran for their lives, and when they looked back, they saw that Rune hadn't moved from his spot.

"What's this? Does he want to die? Is he getting cocky because his dad is strong?" one of the students mocked.

But what amazed them all was that every rat that came within a meter of Rune was instantly sliced in half, as if invisible blades of air had cut them.

The students couldn't believe their eyes for a moment, doubting that Rong was a farmer with air techniques.

But Mr. Wang and Elder Yun, who were far more experienced and powerful, immediately noticed what was happening.

Every rat that entered Rune's range was cut with a beautiful 40 cm dagger, and no rat managed to get past him.

While Rune slaughtered the rats, he felt a strange aura coming from the forest, an ancient, mysterious, and very powerful aura.

"I'll check it out later," Rune thought to himself.

After the day ended, the students counted that Rong had killed around 85 rats by himself.

Meanwhile, Mr. Wang and Elder Yun dealt with the remaining rats.

"He's truly a wild talent," Elder Yun thought as he looked at Rune.

"I never imagined he was so skilled in combat. Mr. Dovos will be very happy."

Mr. Dovos had initially been dissatisfied with marrying his daughter to someone who didn't know how to fight, as he only valued strength.

But now, it turned out that Rune knew how to fight better than anyone in the younger generation.

When the news spread through the village, everyone was shocked, "How could this be?" some wondered.

"They're just immature rats, I could do that too," a man in his early twenties shouted.

"If you were there, you would have wet your pants seeing the first rat, hahaha," some of the elders mocked.

"But could he kill an adult rat?" When they heard this question, silence fell over the area.

He was only ten years old. If he could kill an adult rat now, what would happen when he reached thirty? Could he kill a rat with six pearls?
