Chapter 6 - Internal

The sun hung low in the sky, casting long shadows across the U.A. training grounds as Kael stood at the edge of the field, his sharp eyes scanning the area. The day had been grueling, a series of intense exercises designed to push the students to their limits. Kael had performed well, his control over his quirk improving with each passing day. But there was still so much to learn, so much to master.

The storm inside him was restless, a constant reminder of the power he carried and the responsibility that came with it. Kael clenched his fists, focusing on his breathing as he tried to steady his emotions. He couldn't afford to lose control, not here, not now.

"Arashi!"

The voice broke through his thoughts, and Kael turned to see Kendou approaching, her usual cheerful demeanor tempered by a look of concern. Behind her, a small group of Class 1-B students lingered, their expressions a mix of curiosity and apprehension.

"We're heading to the common room to unwind," Kendou said, her tone light but insistent. "You should join us."

Kael hesitated, his indifferent demeanor masking the flicker of uncertainty in his chest. He wasn't used to being included, to being part of a group. But something in Kendou's expression gave him pause. She wasn't just being polite—she genuinely wanted him to come.

"Alright," he said finally, his voice calm and measured. "I'll be there."

Kendou's smile widened, and she gestured for him to follow as she led the way to the common room. Kael fell into step beside her, his sharp eyes taking in every detail as they walked. The halls of U.A. were quieter now, the day's activities winding down as students retreated to their dorms or gathered in small groups to relax.

The common room was a spacious, comfortable space, filled with plush couches and low tables. A few students were already there, their voices a low hum of conversation as they lounged around. Kael found a quiet corner and settled into a chair, his indifferent demeanor a stark contrast to the lively atmosphere around him.

The others didn't seem to mind. They chatted amiably, their laughter filling the room as they shared stories and jokes. Kael listened with half an ear, his mind still focused on the storm inside him. But as the minutes passed, he found himself relaxing, the tension in his shoulders easing as he allowed himself to be drawn into the moment.

"So, Arashi," Monoma said, his voice cutting through the chatter. "What's your deal?"

Kael looked up, his sharp eyes meeting Monoma's gaze. The other boy was leaning forward, his expression a mix of curiosity and challenge. Kael could feel the weight of their eyes on him, the unspoken question hanging in the air.

"What do you mean?" Kael asked, his tone neutral.

Monoma shrugged, a smirk playing on his lips. "You're always so quiet, so… detached. It's like you're not even here half the time. What's your story?"

Kael hesitated, his mind racing as he weighed his options. He wasn't used to opening up, to sharing his thoughts and feelings with others. But something about the way Monoma was looking at him—like he was a puzzle to be solved—made him want to respond.

"I'm here to become a hero," Kael said finally, his voice calm and measured. "That's all that matters."

Monoma raised an eyebrow, clearly unsatisfied with the answer. But before he could press further, Kendou intervened, her tone light but firm.

"Leave him alone, Monoma," she said, shooting him a pointed look. "Not everyone needs to be as loud as you."

The others laughed, and the tension in the room eased as the conversation shifted to lighter topics. Kael allowed himself a small, rare smile, a flicker of gratitude warming his chest. He wasn't sure if he belonged here, but for the first time, he felt like he might.

As the evening wore on, Kael found himself drawn into the conversation, his sharp wit and dry humor earning a few laughs from the group. He still kept his distance, his indifferent demeanor a shield against their attempts to draw him in. But he couldn't deny the sense of camaraderie that was beginning to form, the unspoken bond that tied them together.

When the others finally began to drift off, heading to their dorms for the night, Kael lingered in the common room, his mind racing with thoughts of the future. He had come to U.A. to become a hero, to master the storm inside him and make a difference in the world. But he was starting to realize that he couldn't do it alone.

The storm inside him was a part of him now, a force he would have to learn to control. But it wasn't just his burden to bear. He had classmates, teachers, allies who were willing to stand by his side. And for the first time, he felt like he might be able to trust them.

As he stepped out of the common room and into the cool night air, Kael felt a flicker of determination. The road ahead would be long and difficult, but he was ready to face it. He would master his quirk. He would become a hero.

And he would do it on his own terms.

The days that followed were a blur of activity, each one bringing new challenges and opportunities for growth. Kael threw himself into his training, pushing himself to the limit as he worked to master his quirk. The storm inside him was still a force to be reckoned with, but he was starting to gain control, to harness its power in ways he hadn't thought possible.

His classmates were a constant source of inspiration and frustration, their quirks and personalities clashing in ways that kept him on his toes. But Kael was learning to navigate the complexities of this world, to find his place among them.
