Chapter 7 - Mock Battle

The morning sun filtered through the windows of Class 1-B, casting a warm glow over the room as the students settled into their seats. Kael sat near the back, his usual spot, his sharp eyes scanning the room as he waited for the day to begin. The past few weeks had been a whirlwind of training, classes, and the occasional team exercise, and while Kael had kept to himself for the most part, he couldn't deny that he was starting to feel a sense of belonging—something he hadn't expected.

Vlad King entered the room, his presence commanding immediate attention. The Blood Hero's sharp eyes swept over the class, his expression serious as he took his place at the front.

"Today," he began, his voice deep and authoritative, "we'll be doing something a little different. You've all been working hard to improve your quirks and combat skills, but being a hero isn't just about raw power. It's about strategy, teamwork, and adaptability. That's why today's exercise will be a joint training session with Class 1-A."

A murmur of excitement rippled through the room. Kael's eyes narrowed slightly. Class 1-A. Of course. The so-called "elite" class, the one that always seemed to be at the center of everything. He had heard plenty about them—Midoriya, Bakugo, Todoroki—and while he didn't care much for rivalries, he couldn't deny that this would be an interesting challenge.

"The exercise will be a mock battle," Vlad King continued. "Two teams of five from each class will face off in a simulated urban environment. Your objective is to either capture the opposing team's flag or incapacitate all members of the opposing team. Remember, this isn't just about winning. It's about demonstrating your ability to work as a team and think on your feet."

Kael leaned back in his seat, his mind already racing. This was an opportunity to test himself, to see how far he had come. But it was also a chance to observe Class 1-A up close, to see if they lived up to the hype.

The training ground was a sprawling mock city, complete with towering buildings, narrow alleyways, and plenty of places to hide. Kael stood with his team—Kendou, Tetsutetsu, Monoma, and Shiozaki—as they finalized their strategy. Kendou, as the team leader, had taken charge, her calm demeanor and quick thinking making her a natural fit for the role.

"Alright," Kendou said, her voice steady. "We know Class 1-A is strong, but they're not invincible. We need to play to our strengths and work together. Arashi, your quirk gives us an edge in area control. If you can create a storm, it'll limit their visibility and mobility."

Kael nodded, his expression unreadable. "I'll do what I can, but I'll need cover. If they target me early, it could backfire."

"I've got your back," Tetsutetsu said, his usual bravado tempered by a rare seriousness. "No one's getting through me."

Monoma smirked, his eyes gleaming with anticipation. "And I'll make sure to borrow whatever quirks I can to keep them on their toes. This is going to be fun."

Shiozaki, ever the voice of reason, added, "We must remain focused and disciplined. Overconfidence will be our downfall."

Kendou nodded, her expression determined. "Alright, let's do this. Remember, we're not just representing ourselves—we're representing Class 1-B. Let's show them what we're made of."

The exercise began with a loud buzzer, and the two teams sprang into action. Kael moved quickly, his sharp eyes scanning the environment as he took up a position on the roof of a building. From there, he had a clear view of the battlefield, and he could feel the storm inside him stirring, eager to be unleashed.

Below, he could see the members of Class 1-A—Midoriya, Bakugo, Todoroki, Uraraka, and Iida—moving with precision and coordination. They were good, he had to admit, but they weren't infallible.

Kael raised his hands, focusing his energy as he summoned a gust of wind. It started small, a gentle breeze that quickly grew into a powerful gale, whipping through the streets and obscuring visibility. Lightning crackled in the distance, the storm building with each passing moment.

"That's our cue!" Kendou's voice crackled over the comms. "Move in!"

Kael watched as his teammates advanced, their movements swift and deliberate. Tetsutetsu charged ahead, his steel body deflecting attacks as he created a path for the others. Monoma darted in and out of cover, his borrowed quirks giving him an edge in versatility. Shiozaki's vines snaked through the streets, creating barriers and ensnaring opponents. And Kendou led the charge, her fists a blur as she took down anyone who got too close.

But Class 1-A wasn't going down without a fight. Bakugo's explosions lit up the stormy sky, his raw power and aggression making him a formidable opponent. Todoroki's ice and fire clashed with Shiozaki's vines, creating a chaotic battlefield. Midoriya's speed and strength were on full display, his determination unwavering as he pushed forward.

Kael focused on maintaining the storm, his quirk a constant presence as he tried to tip the scales in his team's favor. But he could feel the strain, the toll it was taking on his body. The storm inside him was restless, responding to the chaos of the battle in ways he couldn't always control.

A sudden explosion rocked the building he was standing on, and Kael barely had time to react as Bakugo launched himself onto the roof, his eyes blazing with intensity.

"You're not the only one who can control the battlefield, storm boy!" Bakugo snarled, his hands crackling with explosive energy.

Kael didn't respond. He didn't have time. Bakugo was fast, his attacks relentless as he closed the distance between them. Kael dodged and weaved, his movements precise as he tried to keep the explosive hero at bay. But Bakugo was relentless, his raw power and aggression making him a dangerous opponent.

Kael's mind raced as he tried to come up with a plan. He couldn't afford to lose focus, not now. The storm inside him was growing harder to control, his emotions threatening to spill over. But he couldn't let that happen. Not here. Not now.

With a sharp exhale, Kael unleashed a burst of lightning, the crackling energy forcing Bakugo to retreat. But the explosion hero wasn't deterred. He lunged forward, his fists glowing with explosive energy as he aimed a devastating blow at Kael.

Kael braced himself, his mind racing as he tried to think of a way out. But before the attack could land, a vine wrapped around Bakugo's arm, yanking him off balance.

"Not so fast!" Shiozaki's voice rang out, her vines snaking through the air as she joined the fight.

Kael didn't waste the opportunity. He summoned a powerful gust of wind, sending Bakugo flying off the roof and into the streets below. The explosion hero landed hard, but he was back on his feet in an instant, his eyes blazing with fury.

"This isn't over!" Bakugo shouted, his voice barely audible over the roar of the storm.

Kael didn't respond. He didn't have time. The battle was far from over, and he needed to stay focused. The storm inside him was a constant presence, a reminder of the power he carried and the responsibility that came with it.

As the exercise drew to a close, both teams were battered and exhausted, but neither was willing to back down. Kael's storm had turned the battlefield into a chaotic mess, but Class 1-A had proven to be just as resilient as he had expected.

In the end, it was a narrow victory for Class 1-B. Kendou managed to capture the flag, her quick thinking and determination tipping the scales in their favor. But it had been a hard-fought battle, and Kael knew that they had only won by the skin of their teeth.

As the two classes gathered to debrief, Kael couldn't help but feel a flicker of respect for his opponents. They were strong, no doubt about it. But so was he. And so was Class 1-B.

Vlad King's voice cut through the chatter, his tone serious but approving. "Good work, everyone. This exercise was about more than just winning or losing. It was about learning, about pushing yourselves to be better. And from what I saw today, you've all got what it takes to become great heroes."

Kael nodded, his sharp eyes scanning the room as he took in the faces of his classmates and opponents.
