Chapter 1 - EYES ON WEALTH

Chapter 1

In Russia, 1990.

Rhoda had just returned from her office. Being very weak and tired as she entered the sitting room, she slumped on the sofa, breathing hard. After lying there for some time, Miss Chole, the chef came to meet her.

"Good afternoon mum," Miss Chole greeted her boss.

One would wonder why Chole addressed Rhoda as her mum. She was married to her husband, Lugard, for over ten years but they had no child. She had always longed to become a mother someday, but it seemed things weren't working out well for her.

She wanted to feel the joy of motherhood; that was one thing she had always longed for. Her husband had always been a caring and supportive man, but she felt bad for making him pass through a lot because of her.

Family members had done their worst. Being a member and head of a multi- billionaire family, they wanted an heir for their son. Grandma Avery, Lugard's mum had even gone to a point of trying to introduce young and beautiful, strange ladies to her son to at least get a grandchild from one of them but Lugard was able to resist them. Rhoda was very grateful to her husband for that.

"How are you Chole," Rhoda said as she held Chole's hand which felt warm. She loved the young girl and took her as her own child and even told Chole to refer her as her mother and not her boss.

"I'm fine ma." Chole replied as she helped the woman get off her shoes. "Ma, you told me to remind you to visit the motherless babies home today, hope you still remember?"

"Oh my God! That escaped my mind." Rhoda said as she remembered that she had to visit the orphanage.

It had been her routine to visit the orphanage at least thrice in a week, to spend some time with the kids, buy them some clothes, food stuffs, toys and spend some good money on them. She was weak and exhausted and wasn't even sure if she was going to make it to the orphanage.

"Though I feel weak, Chole, I still have to be there today. You know it has become a part of me."

"I know mum, but it seems you are too tired. You can postpone it to tomorrow or next when you'll have much time. You don't have to stress yourself this much."

Rhoda had already made up her mind, so she hurriedly stood up from the sofa and went to have some shower. Chole then proceeded to prepare dinner for her boss before she was out of the bathroom.Â
