Simon barely had time to react. Kayla shoved him to the side, raising her knife as the creature barreled toward her. She ducked beneath its swipe, slashing at its side, but her blade barely scratched the surface of its thick hide.
"Daniel!" she shouted. "Ideas?"
Daniel was already moving, scanning the glyphs on the column. "It's connected to that!" he yelled, pointing. "The glyphs—if we disrupt them—"
The creature roared, cutting him off, and Simon scrambled to his feet. His heart pounded as he searched for anything he could use. His hand brushed against a loose stone, and without thinking, he hurled it at the creature. It struck its shoulder, barely fazing it, but it bought Kayla a moment to retreat.
"Keep it distracted!" Daniel called, his fingers flying over the column's surface. The glyphs flickered, their light dimming as he worked.
Simon grabbed another stone, his breath ragged. He didn't know if they could win, but there was no choice. They had to keep fighting.
