The chamber was different from the shifting corridors. Stable. Permanent. The entrance was marked by a giant stone dial, embedded into the doorway, filled with shifting symbols arranged in a ring. The designs twisted and moved as if alive.
Kayla sighed. "Oh, great. Homework."
Daniel ignored her, stepping forward to examine the dial. "It's a combination lock. The symbols shift, but they repeat in a sequence. We have to align them correctly."
Simon ran his fingers over the carvings. The stone was warm—almost like it was watching them.
As his hand brushed the surface, the symbols reacted, glowing brighter.
A deep click echoed through the chamber.
Then, something moved behind them.
A low, guttural growl.
Kayla's eyes widened. "You've gotta be kidding me."
The sound grew closer—something moving through the corridors fast. Heavy. Hunting.
Daniel's fingers flew over the dial. "We're on a timer."
"No pressure or anything," Kayla muttered, turning toward the entrance, knife raised.
Simon swallowed hard and braced himself.
Whatever was coming? It was coming fast.
