Chapter 4 - Running is Always the Only Option

The skinny guy pushed the big guy out of the way, breathing fast as he recovered from the shock. He looked back at Eizit with a "what the fuck" expression.

Eizit's eyes seemed to have darkened, but they suddenly opened widely, recovering their glow. The skinny guy spoke.

"Dude did you just middle finger'd a guy's head? I don't know if that's badass or messed up dude"

Eizit covered his head, his arm and fingers having popped back again.

"Man, I don't know, the adrenaline was too overwhelming, it was him or us."

The skinny guy looked up at the sky, and stood up, thoughts running through his head as he gave his hand to Eizit.

"Stand up, we gotta think about the fuck we're gonna do now. We just killed a guy"

Eizit stood up with the skinny guy's help, he spoke back at him, having thought on what to do with the big guy.

"We'll just report him to the authorities, it was in self-defense."

The skinny guy slapped Eizit, with an angry expression.

"What the fuck do you mean by reporting him to the authorities!? First off, the guy attacked us with a mace, shooting him with explosions is not self defense. Second off, have you looked at us?"

The realization was now visible in Eizit's face, their Spiegel races were both highly prejudiced. The skinny boy was a tiefling with red hair, dark blue skin and golden eyes, he wore swift clothes like those you'd see assassins wearing. His tail ended up in two sharp arrow shapes, as it split up halfway through.

Eizit was a dark elf, with dark skin and long white hair, his eyes were green and his body was rather weak. Eizit was also a tiny guy, being around 161 cm (5'3).

Definitely, the authorities of Spiegel would not believe them if they dragged a big guy to them...

"Shit, that's... Right. So, what are we gonna do now?"

The tiefling walked around in circles, telling Eizit to shut up, that he was thinking. His eyes showed that he was indeed thinking through a lot of options. Eizit spoke.

"Okay, first off, I'm Eizit. We're both in this now, so we better know eachother. Second down the list, if the Church faction won't believe on us, we gotta escape from the Holy Grounds."

The tiefling looked at him, sighed, and introduced himself.

"I'm Azael, but don't you think I'll follow you around forever just because you kind of saved my life. Your idea makes sense, the Holy Grounds never looked at me without prejudices anyways, and probably they didn't to you either."

Eizit nodded, the Church faction only cared about one thing, exterminating the monsters. This faction was created about 50 years ago, when the first Archbishop Michael established it as a way of fighting off the players that decided to play as Monsters. Following that, the League of Monsters and Creatures of the Dark was formed as a way of protecting eachother and fighting off the Church from claiming their territories.

"So, Azael, what if we go over to the Ironguard mountains?"

Azael replied, with a tone that left clear he was unsure

"The neutral faction? I guess it's a viable option... After all, working for the monsters has always been seen morally wrong... But are you sure?"

Eizit thought about it for a while, in the outside they were always been told to be a completely neutral faction free from prejudices, but perhaps that was just a facade.

"Well, if we can avoid working directly for the monsters from the start, I think it is a good option."

Azael nodded

"I guess, we'll do that then... What are we gonna do with this guy, though?"

Eizit thought for a bit, before realising something.

"Wait dude, this guy never used any star abilities... That means this is his first death, he's gonna become stronger! If he was already this strong without any stars, imagine now that he has died once"

Azael raised an eyebrow

"Stars? What do you mean Stars?"

Eizit raised an eyebrow back

"Dude, how many times have you died?"

Azael shrugged

"Two times."

Eizit grabbed him by the shoulders and shook him slightly

"And you haven't got your stars!? It's in the tutorial!"

Azael laughed, before looking back at Eizit whipping out a tear.

"Ah man, don't tell me you're one of those nerds who actually watch the tutorial hahaha"

Eizit let go of Azael and face palmed. This guy was so stubborn.

"Man, the only reason we're alive is because I awakened my star, and I could do because I watched the tutorial."

Azael sighed

"What even is the 'star'?"

Eizit turned around and started walking, indicating Azael to follow him, while speaking.

"Think, Open UI"

Azael thought, obvious because of how he seemed surprised. The UI clearly opened.

"Ah look man, this menu is funny, 'Congratulations! you have died once', fucking bot."

Eizit giggled, he also thought the same way

"Yeah, yeah, just tell me what star you got"

Azael laughed

"HAHAHA MAN, this is fucking perfect! My star's name is Dark Side of the Moon"

Eizit turned around to look at him, he was curious now.

"What does it do?"

Azael smirked at him

"You're not going to believe it, it allows me to control shadows! Fitting my assassin vibes, you know!"

Eizit looked away, emotionally hurt, why did the thing give this guy such a fitting star and give him a fucking "I go Boom" magic...? This is so unfair.

"Here we are, we arrived."

Azael looked up, they were in the east side of the wall, and since it was early in the morning there was a high shadow all over the wall. Which would be perfect for them to climb over using Azael's recently obtained star... To be honest, Eizit planned on using his explosions to push both of them over the wall, but if he didn't have to partially combust, he would prefer to not do so.

"I get it, we use my new shadow star to make a platform and get us over the wall... Are you sure the shadow will last up until the top? It's a huge big ass wall."

Eizit looked up, it was true that it was pretty tall, but they hadn't any other option. They were covered in blood so they couldn't just leave through the main door. They had to escape through here, and escape fast. Though maybe there was no reason to ru-

"I FOUND YOU ASSHOLES!"

There he was! The Berserker! For god's sake! He wouldn't leave them alone!

"Azael, hurry!"

"Yeah, yeah, I'm on it!"

"COME HERE~"

Azael stretched a shadow, and both him and Eizit climbed on it, once over it, Azael raised his arms and the shadow slowly ascended.

"Dude, this shadow is so slow"

"What do you want me to do!? We're lucky we don't weight too much!"

"Oh look at 'em running away! Is that all you know!?"

"Dude, shoot him with an explosion or something!"

"Don't you see if I do that the explosion light will dispell the shadow?"

"Shit, how inconvenient "

The shadow kept going up, and up, but the Berserker was already under them.

"Come down here! You're burning away my patience!"

He yelled, Eizit looked around trying to get an idea, they weren't even halfway through, it looked tough... Very tough!

"Man, what the fuck is he doing!?"

Eizit looked down, the berserker was holding the mace handling with his mouth and climbing the wall by sinking his fingers into the hard stone bricks, how could someone have such an absurd strength?

"Don't worry, we are already halfway through, we can make it!"

The Berserker looked up, grinning his teeth on the mace's handle, he sunk his feet on the wall, actually making a hole on it, not too deep, but deep enough. Then, he grabbed the mace and slowly arched backwards, his feet being the only thing holding him in the wall, but oh god did they keep him there.

"Thank you for killing me! Now I'm stronger than earlier! You made me able to use this star, and now Imma test it on you!"

Eizit looked around, they were 3/4 up the wall, they were almost there! All it took was just a bit more of time.

"H-hey man, he says he's fine with having died, maybe he forgives us... Right?"

"Eizit, that better be fucking irony, because that guy-"

"Would follow us to the end of the world, I know dude, I know"

The Berserker finished arching backwards, his feet deep in the wall, but also his head touching it 1 and a half meters down. He placed his hands over the wall next to his head, and pushed himself out. His body rapidly arched back and when he was about to hit his head with the wall, he pushed himself off the wall with his feet, propulsing himself upwards and growling as he rapidly got up.

Eizit looked down, "we're screwed", he said. The berserker smashed the shadow from behind, it shattering...

"I GOT YOU TWO!"
