35: Lei Dianying Intends to Give Up Treatment
Kamisato Ayaka took the Thunder God to see the livelihoods of the people in Inazuma.
She wanted the Thunder God to understand the current lives of the people, especially since the Thunder God had not ventured out for a long time. This would allow her to better understand the people's wishes and perhaps approach them more seriously.
Coincidentally, at this moment, the Thunder God also had similar thoughts. She wanted to see if her people were suffering. If they were, dreams would become even more necessary. If they were happy, then it would be even more important to make them even happier, eliminating the pain of birth, old age, sickness, and death.
As for Xiao Gong's purpose, it was simple—she was just accompanying her friends. She didn't feel involved, more like a third wheel, just along for the ride.
As they walked through Inazuma City and even Konda Village, many spies kept an eye on them.
Under normal circumstances, Kamisato Ayaka wouldn't have mobilized so many troops. But with a man by her side, things were different. The last ninja from the society carefully recorded their every move. Once they returned, the report would go directly to the head of the family.
They didn't know what Kamisato Ayato would think upon learning that his sister had met a man outside and that their relationship seemed to be very close.
As for the other group—the Fatui—they had long received news that an executive officer had infiltrated Inazuma. However, they had only seen him in person today. Had they not noticed that Su Ran seemed to be flirting with someone again, they might have disrupted him.
The Fatui had been lying low in Inazuma for years, and now seeing the close relationship between the executive officer and the eldest daughter of the Kamisato family, they were beginning to feel a little concerned.
To infiltrate the Three Bugyo, they had spent a great deal of energy. It wasn't difficult to infiltrate the Tenryo Bugyo and Kanjo Bugyo—Kujo Takayuki and Hiiragi Shinsuke were both motivated by personal gain, so a little visible benefit would be enough to reel them in. But the Society Bugyo, on the other hand, was tough. He was neither soft nor easily swayed by hard pressure.
They hadn't expected such a situation today, though. As soon as the executive officer arrived, he had broken into the Kamisato family from within, directly undermining their foundation. This was a tactic the Fatui hadn't considered using before, and it showed the officer's remarkable cleverness.
Being watched, both Lei Dianying and Su Ran were aware of the surveillance, but neither of them cared. Lei Dianying simply didn't mind, and Su Ran was curious about how Kamisato Ayato would react upon discovering that his sister had met a Fatui executive. Would he suffer in silence or fight back? What if he learned that Su Ran was a Fatui executive himself? What would his feelings be?
By the time evening arrived, the four of them had finally explored all of Inazuma City. They had seen some people who had lost their will to live after losing their Vision. Watching them lose their memories made Lei Dianying fall deep into thought.
But when no one directly pointed out her own issues, she rarely reflected on them. Just like now—these people had lost their desires and goals. Didn't that mean they were content with their current situation?
"It's clear that the people of Inazuma are not happy," Su Ran remarked.
He understood Kamisato Ayaka's goal and didn't mind helping her. However, just showing Ying the current state of Inazuma might not have a lasting impact.
Ayaka still didn't know about Lei Dianying's obsession with eternity or the harm caused by the Vision Hunt Decree and the Sakoku Decree. Even if she did see it, it might not matter. Lei Dianying's goal was to make the dream she envisioned a reality. Once that dream took shape, all the suffering of the people would come to an end.
It seemed that Ayaka had overestimated Ying's ability to understand.
Xiao Gong, who had been tagging along for the day, had enjoyed herself despite the initial awkwardness.
"I'm home... uh, Ayaka, aren't you going home?" Xiao Gong asked, surprised.
The Naganohara Fireworks Shop was right at the gate of Inazuma Castle. After returning from Konda Village, Xiao Gong had arrived home, only to see Kamisato Ayaka still heading back to Inazuma Castle. This struck her as odd—it was already getting dark, and Ayaka wasn't heading home yet?
"Because Linghua wants to live with me," Su Ran explained casually as he put his arm around Shenli Linghua's shoulders and gave Xiao Gong a meaningful look.
Xiao Gong: ...
She quickly regretted saying anything! Now she had to endure more "dog food" (romantic drama)!
"Then you should rest well..." Xiao Gong muttered with no expression, opening the door to her house.
At that moment, Xiao Gong, the only one unaware of the situation, left.
Shenli Linghua looked at Lei Dianying, still in her arms. She had been carrying Ying all day, and Su Ran had been the one to ensure the doll's weight was carefully controlled. Otherwise, even someone as strong as Shenli Linghua would have struggled after a whole day of walking.
"Master Ying, how do you feel about today's trip?" Shenli Linghua asked, hoping for a satisfactory answer.
"The Vision Hunt Decree and the Sakoku Decree were truly terrible decisions. The general made a grave mistake!" Lei Dianying responded after personally observing Inazuma Castle.
She had finally come to the conclusion that it wasn't right to leave the general, a rigid figure, in charge of Inazuma. If she had known this earlier, she should have entrusted the Son of God with the important task.
Kamisato Ayaka was taken aback by the Thunder God's thoughts. Her goal had been only half achieved.
"Inazuma has become this way, and it won't recover anytime soon. We need to work even harder!" Lei Dianying said, determined.
But in the end, as the day drew to a close, it became clear that seeing the damage caused by the Vision Hunt Decree and Sakoku Decree hadn't had the intended effect on the Thunder God. Instead, it had deepened her obsession with her vision of eternal dreams.
Was guiding her this way wrong? Kamisato Ayaka wondered as she glanced at Su Ran. Had he known this would be the outcome from the start? Perhaps that was why he hadn't stopped her.
"Let's go back to the castle tower. The general must have been waiting for us for a long time," Kamisato Ayaka said, her smile fading.
