Chapter 39 - THE LAST MISTAKE

The elite knights charged.

Their black armor glinted under the blood-red moon, their enchanted weapons humming with power. These were the kingdom's strongest, trained for war, handpicked for this exact moment.

They did not falter.

They did not hesitate.

They had only one goal—kill the monsters standing before them.

But they didn't realize—they were already dead.

---

THE FIRST CLASH

BOOM.

The moment the two forces collided, the battlefield erupted into chaos.

Arthur met the first knight head-on, his blade clashing against a greatsword. The impact shattered the ground beneath them.

Fenrick dodged a spear thrust, grabbing the weapon midair, yanking the knight forward—and driving his fist through his helmet.

Dante vanished in a flicker of black lightning, reappearing behind two knights. Before they could react—his blade flashed. They fell.

Xeraniel grinned as he raised his hand—suddenly, gravity inverted. The knights around him screamed as they were lifted into the air—then crushed into the ground with bone-shattering force.

Modred didn't move. He waited—calm, patient.

Then—the strongest knight rushed him.

---

THE KNIGHT COMMANDER VS. MODRED

The Knight Commander was different.

His armor was thicker, reinforced with magic. His sword glowed with divine energy, a weapon forged to cut down demons and false gods.

He **lunged at Modred—**his sword swung with the weight of a hundred battles.

Modred tilted his head slightly.

SLASH.

The blade missed him by inches.

The knight's breath hitched—

And in that moment, Modred struck.

A single step—his blade flashed.

SHINK.

The Knight Commander froze.

A line of crimson appeared across his chestplate.

Then—his armor split open.

Blood gushed from the wound.

Modred stepped past him, his sword dripping.

The Knight Commander **staggered—**his body refused to move.

And then—he fell.

The rest of the knights watched in horror.

This was supposed to be a battle.

But it was just a massacre.

---

THE SLAUGHTER ENDS

One by one, the elite knights fell.

Arthur cut through three at once, his movements like a storm of steel.

Fenrick broke another's skull with his bare hands.

Dante's black lightning incinerated his opponents where they stood.

Xeraniel crushed the last remaining knight, his gravity distorting the air itself.

Then—silence.

The battlefield was covered in corpses.

The army that once stood proud… was gone.

The kingdom's last defense… had failed.

Modred sheathed his sword. "Move in."

The Valkary stepped forward.

And the conquest began.
