Chapter 32 - Chapter 39: Silent Preparations

Raynor stepped out of the infirmary just as the morning sun peeked over the academy walls. His body was still sore, but the healing potion had worked wonders—his bruises were faded, and the sharp ache in his ribs had dulled to a manageable throb.

He flexed his fingers, feeling the residual energy from his recent system upgrade. Survival Instinct (Rank II) – Combat Flow. The fight with Cassin had pushed him to his limits, but it had also sharpened him.

And he wasn't done yet.

The academy grounds were already bustling with students heading to their morning drills, their voices a dull hum in the background. Raynor ignored them, his steps carrying him toward the marketplace just outside the academy gates.

He had a plan.

The market was lively as ever, merchants shouting about their wares, adventurers bartering for supplies, and nobles casually inspecting enchanted trinkets.

Raynor kept his hood low, blending into the crowd as he made his way toward a familiar stall—one owned by an old rogue named Grimwald.

Grimwald wasn't part of the academy, nor was he a simple merchant. He dealt in information—and for the right price, he could procure rare skill scrolls that weren't exactly legal in the noble districts.

The old man glanced up as Raynor approached, his single remaining eye narrowing. "Velcroft," he muttered. "Didn't expect you back so soon."

Raynor placed a few silver coins on the counter. "I need something specific."

Grimwald's lips curled into a smirk. "Don't you always?"

He reached under the counter, rummaging through a collection of small, rune-etched scrolls. "You're getting better, kid. That fight with Cassin wasn't half-bad. You looking for something to complement your new style?"

Raynor didn't react. "I need something that enhances awareness."

Grimwald hummed in thought before pulling out a thin, black scroll. "This one's tricky. Not for the faint-hearted."

Raynor picked it up and inspected the faded text.

Skill Scroll: Shadow SenseType: Passive EnhancementEffect: Enhances the user's awareness of hidden threats, including unseen movements and killing intent. Activates instinctively in high-danger situations.

Raynor's grip tightened. This was exactly what he needed. His Survival Instinct skill had helped him adapt mid-fight, but he needed something that would keep him one step ahead before an attack even landed.

"How much?" he asked.

Grimwald grinned. "For you? Let's call it... five gold."

Raynor's eye twitched. That was a steep price. But he had expected it. Without hesitation, he reached into his pouch and pulled out the coins.

Grimwald chuckled, sliding the scroll into Raynor's hand. "Pleasure doing business, kid. Try not to die before you make use of it."

Raynor gave him a cold look before turning away.

As he walked through the marketplace, he gripped the scroll tightly.

With this, he wouldn't just react to danger.

He'd sense it before it even arrived.
