Chapter 5 - The second chance

Sarafina stood in the well-arranged kitchen, tears rolling down her face. She was so lost in her emotions that she didn't notice Caleb's presence until he touched her gently and asked, "Babe, are you okay?"

Startled, she opened her eyes and screamed. A vivid, haunting memory flashed in her mind—Caleb holding her lifeless body. She begins to panic as she pulled him by the hair in an attempt to push him away.

The commotion disrupted the office, and whispers rippled through the crowd. Everyone was curious about the dramatic scene but too stunned to intervene. Caleb, equally confused, tried to calm Sarafina, but her erratic behavior only heightened the tension.

Suddenly, the CEO, Tony Ukay, stepped out of his office to restore order. He approached Sarafina, who was trembling and visibly disoriented. She pulled away from his touch and she was confused. Desperate to escape, she ran to the nearest mirror,to confirm her existence.

As she stared at her reflection, disbelief washed over her—something was wrong. Lost in her dazed state, her hand accidentally struck a kettle of hot water. The kettle tipped over, and Sarafina froze as it seemed ready to scald her. But Tony reacted quickly, pulling her to safety just in time.

"Are you okay?" Caleb and Solana rushed to her side, their voices filled with concern. But Sarafina couldn't stay. The stares, the murmurs from the office crowd—some calling her insane—became unbearable. She pushed past them and began to run.

Ignoring the elevator, which was taking too long, she dashed toward the stairs, her heels clattering against the ground. One of her shoes slipped off, but she didn't stop to retrieve it. She just wanted to get away.

As she was about to stumble, Tony caught her arm, steadying her. "Enough," he said firmly, his deep voice both authoritative and calming. "Don't run anymore."

Tony retrieved her shoe, and as Sarafina took a moment to compose herself, something on the office noticeboard caught her eye. Her breath hitched. She was back—five years before her death.

Tony returned with her shoe, handing it to her. "You ran over 200 meters from the office," he said with a faint smile, attempting to reduce the tension.

Sarafina thanked him, but her mind was racing. Who was this man? Why was he being so kind? As she studied him, she noticed his tall, noble posture, his warm brown eyes, and his soft curls that framed his face. He exuded confidence and protection—qualities she had once longed for in her life.

Unbeknownst to Sarafina, this was also Tony's second chance. In his previous life, he had died due to betrayal, just as she had. And now, he silently vowed to use this rebirth to right his wrongs and protect the woman he had once loved from afar but never had the courage to approach.

Tony drove Sarafina home. Once inside, she rushed to confirm her suspicions. A quick glance at the calendar revealed the truth: she was indeed five years in the past—the time before her love life crumbled.

And so, the wheels of fate began to turn again.
