Chapter 1 - The One With The Knowledge Moor

The crimson moonlight shined brightly throughout the City of Miracles. This light infiltrated one of the many buildings throughout the city, in an unassuming room of this building two people were seemingly engaged in a deep conversation.

"So Neo, have you come up with a decision on which Pathway you're going to choose?"

The black-haired woman asked with a smile, she had jet-black hair with a few blonde strands in the root of her hair.

The boy seemed to be in deep thought as he let out a regretful sigh, "Captain do you really not have the Assassin Sequence"

The black-haired woman's lips twitched, "Like I told you multiple times, we don't have that sequence. How did you even get to know such a sequence?"

Neo waved his hands and soon clasped them together creating an echo in the lonely room, "Fine Captain Casey I understand, out of Apprentice, Mystery Pryer and Savant, I'll choose Mystery Pryer!"

Neo said regretfully as he put his hand back inside his trousers. Casey soon gave a warm smile, "I'll tell Conner to start preparing your potion, remember you're going to step into the mystical world soon, are you sure you really want to do this?"

Neo let out a bitter smile, "Yeah I'm sure."

From the day, he — Evan Calligris arrived in this world, he realised that it was not all sunshine and rainbows. No, he was no longer Evan Calligris; he was now Neo, Neo Hawthorne.

The day he arrived or well transmigrated, a part of him seemed to have been wiped away. Maybe it was a good thing as in this world knowledge corrupts, it is no longer power.

Although a part of his memories were wiped he still remembered quite a lot of them, allowing him to make the conclusion that he did not transmigrate into some random world. But the world of Lord of The Mysteries.

A novel that he had avidly chased, he had transmigrated into the early days of January, but the body he had inhabited was far from normal. It had quite a lot of mysteries surrounding it — mysteries that made him get inducted into the Church of The God of Steam and Machinery.

He had finally accumulated enough contribution points to now finally be able to become a Beyonder, making him a step closer to leaving this God forsaken world.

"...."

In the deepest part of the Church of The Steam God laid a tidy room. The room had many long tables with tubes, beakers and materials.

Other than that, there was a huge cauldron with a wooden ladle in it. On the walls of the room polished pipes ran throughout it. There were also scribbles present everywhere, but these were not normal scribbles. They were the Sacred Emblem of the Steam God.

The Sacred Emblem of Steam and Machinery had a steampunk design represented by a solid triangle filled with symbols such as steam, gears, and levers.

Bang Bang

The archaic door boomed as it creaked open slowly. Right then Old Conner entered the room with a giant crate as he heaved a sigh. He had grey sideburns and a clean shaven face, his hair seemed to be turning old as every strand was seemingly going grey. He soon placed the wooden crate on one of the long tables, as he swiftly opened it.

"Boy, I never thought you out of all the people would choose Mystery Pryer. It really does not suit you, hunter would've been better. It's sad that we don't have a potion formula for it"

Neo gave a small smile, "Yeah I really wanted to choose the Assassin sequence, but it's strictly controlled by the Witch Sect so it's quite depressing. But, you can't say that Mystery Pryer does not suit me, I think it really does.

There's not bad sequence, only bad Beyonders"

Old Conner chuckled as he took out the ingredients one by one, "Don't you dare use my own words against me"

He looked down on the ingredients he carefully laid out as he gave a regretful sigh, "The concoction of a Sequence potion is extremely simple, at least for Sequence 7 and below. There's no need for a special flame or any additional ritual, much less an incantation. There's no need for one to participate in it spiritually. All one needs to do is go according to the formula's steps, add the precise amounts, and mix it. That will be all."

Neo focused on the ingredients Old Conner laid out as he nodded. Following that, he opened the silver chest and pulled out goatskin parchment that exuded antiquity.

The yellowish-brown paper unfurled inch by inch, revealing words on it. Neo looked from a distance and realized it was in Hermes, a language he was very familiar with.

After all, from the day he realised he had transmigrated in this world, he had enrolled himself into an etiquette school to familiarise him with the languages.

"Mystery Pryer: 10 milliliters of Lavos Squid's Crystallized Blood. 70 grams of Moonlight Worm.

Supplementary ingredients: 7 mint gold leaves, 30 millilitres of purified distilled water and 7 spectre ectoplasm.

"Pure distilled water is just water that has been repeatedly heated and prayed upon, thankfully there was an advancement to the Mystery Pryer sequence a period back. So there's still some left.

The other materials are also quite easy to come by, so there's a surplus of it. You are quite lucky boy, this potion is quite similar to the Seer Pathway potion because there are some similarities between the both of them during the early sequences."

Neo intently listened to his words and noted them in his mind. Old Conner then took all the ingredients from the chest and moved to the table where there was a cauldron.

"Now to prepare the potion", Old Conner plucked the mint gold leaves and added them in.

"Next is the pure distilled water", he explored around the chest of drawers present in the room as he finally came upon the jug.

He swiftly came near the cauldron and measured exactly 30 millilitres and poured it in. During the whole process, Neo remained dead silent, afraid he would disturb the old man's concentration.

"And Finally the seven spectre ectoplasm, this material is very rare. But you're lucky we have just enough."

He searched upon the wooden chest and took out a small plastic can with a danger sign. He scooped the green goop out of the cab with his pinky and added it in.

"These ingredients are called supplementary ingredients and their quantity can be slightly increased. It's just there to stabilise the potion, it's the last ingredients that matter"

Old Conner muttered about, These supplementary ingredients act like a stabilizing agent in chemistry. Interesting', Neo quietly thought.

"Lavos Squid's blood, 10 milliliters. This kind of squid is considered an extraordinary biological species. It is clearly mutated. It is covered in mystery. Its blood will rapidly break down under sunlight and lose its unique qualities" Old Conner sounded agitated as he took out blue liquid from a dark container.

The blood was blue like the sky. From time to time, it produced illusory bubbles as though it was connected to the spiritual world.

The moment the blue blood entered the cauldron and made contact with the liquid from before, it produced bubbling sounds. The surrounding light was dyed with a light blue tinge, making Nei feel a strange sense of distance but also familiarity.

It felt like the feeling of being in a mother's womb. It elevated a human's soul.

"Finally 70 grams of moonlight worm", he took out a white looking ash from a spherical box and added the entire thing in.

"The moonlight worm is a rare worm that's only available in regions where moonlight is highly concentrated. The blood red moon must directly make contact with the worm for exactly seven days. If it misses even one second, the refinery is stopped."

Illusory fog instantly spewed forth, turning the alchemy room into a blur.

A few seconds later, the fog dissipated. Old Connee used the dark wood ladle and scooped out some sticky purple-green liquid. It had strange characteristics—gooey and inseparable. Not one bit was left in the black cauldron.

The purple-green liquid was poured into a transparent cup as Old Conner served it to him.

"It's done, your Mystery Pryer Potion"

He put his cane down and extended his right hand. As though he held something heavy, he raised the opaque cup. The smell of the potion was faint and seemingly ethereal.

Neo closed his eyes and took a deep breath, he pinched his mouth like he was a child, and drank it like medicine.

The purple-green liquid filled his oral cavity as it slimiliy slipped in. The potion seemed to grow pincers as it seeped into every cell in his body.

Neo felt a harsh cold throughout his body, as his body turned increasingly warm to combat it. The potion then latched onto his Astral Body and started spreading.

But it incurred a sudden resistance, the liquid tried to resist but it was overwhelmed. Suddenly it welcomed the potion and absorbed it in its entirety, Neo fluttered his eyes open as he clutched his head.

Arghhh

His mind soon saw a projection of a huge tree in a deep green wilderness, it overshadowed all the other beautiful attractions. The tree was majestic as its bark reached towards the sun completely covering it. The branches was like wildfire and covered the seemingly endless wilderness.

It's roots reached deep, and was partially visible. The size of just one of its roots was enough to cover Backlund, the leaves of the tree seemed to come together and combine to create one shape — a brain.

Fauna and flora was present in huge quantities along the wilderness with each animal having a writing on its fur which kept getting added on, it was like a kind of record of the animal. The plants had buds which hadn't bloomed, while some of the plants started blooming and the others started withering, seemingly creating a never ending cycle.

The majestic and humongous tree was present in a huge lake, the lake seemed to cover the totality of the strange land. It had distributaries running all over the foreign land.

Neo then gazed at the bark of the tree, which had writings written all over it, some were written in Ancient Hermes, the others in Jotun. Every writing was in a different type of text but each language had the power to invoke nature.

The writings gave Neo a migraine. In the center of the bark was a giant gaping hole that had the ability to fit Backlund. The second Neo gazed at this, his Astral Projection immediately rushed towards it.
