Chapter 6 - Chapter 6

Day by day, Kaito would get picked up from his home and would get dropped off at Sakura's place for a forced tutoring session. Kaito was forced to study long hours, but on the positive side, he did get to enjoy the sweet and delectable pastries, which were the main benefactors to why he conveyed no resistance to his forced tutoring sessions.

During a study session while Kaito was sitting at the desk and currently going through his textbook all the while Sakura was doing her own studying while laying on her bed. As the two were studying, a black raven flew in through the opened window in Sakura's bedroom. The raven had a black envelope in it's mouth and it circled around the room. The raven landed in front of Kaito. Sakura leaped from her bed and approached Kaito and the raven.

The raven dropped the black envelope and gazed at Sakura and Kaito expectantly. Kaito carefully took the letter so as to not provoke the bird. Before Kaito got a chance to open it, Sakura snatched it out of his hand.

"OK, this is childish, and you know it. Like give me one good reason why I can't read it this time?" Kaito asked.

"How much did you get for your last test?" Sakura asked with a lack of interest in her voice.

Kaito knew he couldn't beat her response, so he remained quiet and faced the raven that was ruffling its feathers on the desk.

Sakura opened the envelope, and inside the envelope were two different letters.

Sakura opened the first one of the two.

'Dear Kaito Arima and Sakura Yamada

During these past few days, we have finally reached a conclusion on the next challenge you will be participating in. The rules are simple around the city. You will find laying corpses out of the many corpses. Only a few will be holding a rare flower. You will be facing multiple different teams in order to collect these flowers. The team, whoever collects the most flowers, shall be granted one wish. However, the team that fails to collect even a single flower will be executed. And remember… have fun.

Sincerely

???'

"Interesting" Sakura remarked.

Kaito doesn't respond and taps his pen in boredom. The raven in front of his view continues plucking its feathers a few landing on the desk.

"Hey, do you think it's safe to pet a raven?" Kaito asked.

Sakura ignores Kaito's question and hands him the letter. Kaito accepted the letter and proceeded to read it.

"So, desecrate corpses and collect flowers in order to survive." Kaito said.

"Mhm" Sakura responded while lost in thought.

Kaito noticed Sakura's distant gaze and snatched the second piece of paper from her hand. Before Sakura had a chance to snatch the paper back, Kaito had already begun reading it.

The very second Kaito began reading it, and he quickly crumbled it into a ball. Sakura's eyes widened at Kaito's action.

"And, for what reason did you do that for?" Sakura asked with a hint of malice in her voice.

"It was nothing important, just a list of the teams." Kaito said nonchalantly.

"And you don't think that's important?" Sakura asked.

"it's not like the paper is somehow going to help up us during the game" Kaito answered as he tossed the crumbled up ball into a trash bin near the desk and returned his attention back to the raven on the desk.

Sakura sighed before she spoke up again.

"Moving on, they didn't give us a specific time limit, nor did they tell us when the game will begin…" Sakura said as her voice trailed off.

"Nighttime, around nine" Kaito said.

"What?"

"Nighttime. Around nine. That's the exact time it should start" Kaito said.

"And how did you reach that conclusion?"

"I mean the streets are usually quiet around that time and if you think about the previous letter told us not to tell anyone about the games, so what better time to hide and desecrate corpses than nighttime" Kaito explained while attempting to feed the raven.

"But why nine?" Sakura asked.

"Better early than late" Kaito answered.

Sakura stared at Kaito, who was playing with the raven, with confusion as she was impressed by Kaito's surprising intelligent moment. She quickly shook away those feelings away and spoke up.

"Nighttime it is, but for now, we have to prepare" Sakura said

"For what?" Kaito asked.

"Think about it, we're just hunting for flowers—"

"Exactly, hunting flowers"

Sakura glared at Kaito's intervention. She cleared her throat and resumed talking.

"As I was saying, I doubt they would plan a game to be this easy"

"You're worrying too much. It's not like anyone important is going to die" Kaito said dismissively.

"The whole point of these games is to survive" Sakura stated.

"Who knows, maybe the god guy just decided to give us a little break from murder"

Sakura sighed as she realized there was no point in arguing with the stubborn, laid-back Kaito. She proceeded to exit her room, leaving Kaito and the raven alone. She began thinking of methods of dealing with her competitors and securing hers and Kaito's survival. She continued walking around the mansion. Along the walk, she passed by a few servants who bowed and curtsy for her.

As Sakura was walking, she stumbled upon the head maid. She approached her and spoke up.

"Greetings, Miss Ichikawa"

"Greetings, young mistress"

"I need you to do something for me"

"Anything"

Sakura led the head maid, Miss Ichika, to a nearby room in order to discuss.
