Chapter 5 - CHAPTER 5: THE TENSION

As Xender recovered from her experience, she became aware of the conflict between Peter and Rufus.

They could feel it permeating the air around them. Rufus was self-assured and charming, but ruthless and cunning.

He appeared to enjoy making Peter angry, and Xender couldn't help but wonder what had prompted their disagreement. In contrast, Peter was quiet and modest, yet exuded a secret power. It was as if he was waiting for the right opportunity to present itself. Xender couldn't help but feel uneasy as she saw the dynamic between the two men. She seemed to be enmeshed in a game without any knowledge of the rules or the stakes.

Even though they were at odds, Xender couldn't help but be attracted to both guys. Peter was compelling in his quiet strength, and Rufus was unquestionably charismatic. Xender once ran into Peter in the library while exploring the mansion.

Amidst piles of books and papers, he was seated at a desk. Xender said, "Hey," being a little bashful. "What are you doing?" Peter's eyes met hers as he looked up. "Just researching," he told me. "Trying to find some answers." Curiosity prompted Xender to nod. "About what?" she inquired.

Peter was uncertain about how much to divulge. "About you," he finally said. "About your past and your destiny." As she gazed at Peter, Xender felt her heart skip a beat. How did he mean it? Before she could ask any questions, however, Peter got up and approached her. "Xender, I have to tell you something," he murmured in a raspy, low voice.

Staring up at Peter, Xender's heart was pounding. What was it he would say? Peter was about to say something when Rufus stepped into the doorway. He continued, "Peter, we need to talk," in a chilly, threatening tone. Xender could feel the strain in Peter's eyes as they narrowed.

His question was, "What is it, Rufus?" With a gleam of ill intent, Rufus grinned. "I think it's time we told Xender the truth about herself," he replied. Staring at Rufus, Xender felt her heart skip a beat. How did he mean it? Then, as Rufus opened his mouth to begin, the room's lights flickered.

There was an uncanny, throbbing energy in the air. Xender looked at Peter and Rufus with a feeling of apprehension. What had been going on? Then, as abruptly as it had started, it all came to an end.

The lights returned, and the enthusiasm faded. They left Xender standing there, dazed and shaky. What was that? Rufus then said something. He said, "It seems we have a problem," in a threatening, icy tone.

Staring at Rufus, Xender felt her heart skip a beat. How did he mean it? A stranger then materialized in the doorway as Rufus was ready to explain. Tall and commanding, the woman's eyes seemed to pierce Xender's whole being. The wife responded, "Xender, it's time to come home," in a harsh tone. As she gazed at the woman, Xender felt her heart skip a beat. She was who? And then, as the woman was ready to speak, Xender experienced an odd feeling.

Her molecules were shifting around as though she were being torn apart. Xender felt herself being drawn into a vortex as her vision flickered. She was being dragged through time and space to an unidentified location.

And Xender sensed a voice speaking in her ear as she vanished into the whirlpool. You are not who you believe yourself to be, Xender. You are something far more potent.

As she was drawn through the whirlpool, Xender's senses were overwhelmed by the powerful energy. Her voice was drowned out in the silence as she tried to scream. When Xender came out of the vortex, she was in a strange, new world. There was a beautiful purple sky and bright green foliage. She was approached by a tall, commanding person.

The woman who had before shown up in the doorway was there. The woman murmured, "Welcome, Xender," in a poisonous tone. "I see you're finally starting to remember." The eyes of Xender narrowed. Her question was, "Remember what?" The lady grinned. According to her, "your true identity, of course," "Xender, you are more than a mere person. You possess great supernatural abilities.

As she tried to take in this knowledge, Xender's mind was spinning.

An extraterrestrial? What was the meaning of that? The woman went on, though, before she could ask any questions. "You're a direct descendant of the ancient gods," she declared.

"And you have the power to control the very fabric of reality." Xender's shocked eyes grew wide.

Have control over reality? That was not feasible.

However, Xender noticed something that chilled her as she gazed at the woman. An unearthly energy glowed in the woman's eyes. The woman then spoke again as Xender was ready to respond.

As she put it, "But there's something else, Xender," "Something that could change everything." As she gazed at the woman, Xender felt her heart skip a beat. What subject was she discussing? A figure then materialized behind the woman as she was ready to tell the truth. Peter was there, his eyes burning with rage.

He grumbled and said, "You're not going to tell her, are you?" With a cunning look on her face, the woman turned to face Peter. "Oh, I think it's time Xender knew the truth," she responded.

After that, the woman disclosed a startling secret. "Xender, you're not just a supernatural being," she responded. "You're also..." The woman spoke, and Xender's eyes widened with surprise. "...the daughter of the devil himself."

As she was drawn through the whirlpool, Xender's senses were overwhelmed by the powerful energy. Her voice was drowned out in the silence as she tried to scream. When Xender came out of the vortex, she was in a strange, new world.

"Xender, you're not just a supernatural being," she responded. "You're also..."

As she gazed at the woman, Xender's eyes widened in surprise. She said, her voice just above a whisper, "What do you mean?"

The woman grinned, a flash of venom in her eyes. "You're the daughter of Lucifer himself," she responded. "The devil's own flesh and blood." As she tried to take in this knowledge, Xender's mind was spinning. Did the devil have a daughter? That's not possible.

However, Xender noticed something that chilled her as she gazed at the woman. She had a twisted, vicious smile, and her eyes seemed to be blazing with an inner fire. Xender remarked, "You're lying," while attempting to maintain a steady tone. "This is some kind of sick joke."

A shudder ran down Xender's spine as the woman laughed. "I'm afraid not, dear," she revealed.

"You're the key to unlocking the secrets of hell itself." The eyes of Xender narrowed. What was the woman getting at? And from Xender, what did she want? She started to ask some inquiries, but Peter interrupted. He glared, his eyes burning with rage. "You're not going to hurt her," he said. Her smile widened as the woman turned to face Peter. As she put it, "Oh, I think I will," "You see, Xender is the only one who can help me achieve my ultimate goal."

The heart of Xender skipped a beat. What did the woman really want? And what was in store for Xender? However, the woman held up her hand and gestured to Xender before she could ask any questions. Her words, "You're coming with me," were laced with hate.

When that happened, Xender experienced an odd feeling. As if by some invisible force, she was being drawn toward the woman.

Xender made an effort to fight, but it was too late. She was drawn into a dark vortex, and Peter and the woman were left behind.

When Xender came out of the vortex, she was in a strange, new world. The earth was blanketed in a dense black mist, and the sky was a deep red.

As she gazed about, Xender's heart was pounding. What happened to her? What fate has in store for her? Xender heard a voice behind her, just as she was beginning to orient herself. "Welcome to hell," as it put it.

A figure was standing behind her when Xender turned around. It was a man with skin that appeared to be composed of flames and piercing crimson eyes. Xender's horrified eyes became wide.

Hell was where she was. And she was confronted by the devil himself.
