If someone was actually trying to make sure that Alex was not in any difficult position, it would simply explain a lot of things. Raze wanted to know if that was what was happening.
"If they said that they got into a fight and Alex killed Derek, then they would have to make it seem like Derek actually got into a fight somehow.
I need to see Derek's body. I have just about thirty minutes to get to where they dropped it and back for class."
Raze got up again, carried his book, and left class. If his memories of the stories served right, the infirmary had a very small morgue at the extreme end of it.
He was guessing that was where Derek's body would be, so he headed there. He left the academic building, hedged right for his dorm building to make it seem like he was heading to get something.
Immediately after entering, he used Spatial Veil and turned invisible, but he had very limited time—less than two minutes—so he bolted out of the dorm building and ran towards the infirmary.
He made sure to run on the paved road so that his prints would not show and leave a track. He made it to the door of the building. It was closed but not locked
But from the sounds inside, he could tell there was someone inside. He deactivated Spatial Veil and used Spatial Zone to see if he could reach Derek's body, but he couldn't. His senses fell short of the morgue.
But that was not an issue. He carefully went to the back of the building, the side closer to the forest, and tried again. This time, his Spatial Zone reached the morgue, and he sensed Derek's body lying there.
But it wasn't the same. Bruises and punch marks were all over the body, like Derek had been in a fight. There were also some cut marks before the final stab through the heart.
"They really beat up a dead body to protect Alex? I'm impressed by the dedication, but I don't want this stupid setup to work. Alex deserves the backlash of his actions," Raze said. He used his veil again and left the premises.
He headed back to his dorm and up to his room this time. He opened the door and walked to his desk. He sat down and pulled out his drawer, taking out a white envelope.
He tore a piece of paper from his book and started writing on it.
[I saw all that you did, how you killed Derek in anger. The academy might want to save you, but it will not be for long before I reveal to the entire academy what you really did.
You lying and deceiving asshole. Meet me at the Chapel of the Seven Divine Gods at midnight today, or forget about saving yourself.
Come alone, or forget about even coming.]
Raze placed his pen beside it, carefully folded the letter, and placed it into the envelope. He got up, put the envelope into his pocket, and left the room with his book again, heading back to class.
He wanted to plant the letter in their next class and watch as Alex would fall into confusion and become restless.
Luckily for him, their next class was on magical dueling, so he still had time to do what he needed to.
The class was held in an indoor space. It was very large, and small dueling areas were marked with paint on the ground, with formations drawn on them for healing and for negating death blows when dueling.
Raze was the first person to reach the class. He pushed the door and walked into the cleanly tiled room.
There were no seats of any sort to ensure that all students were active one way or another when they were here.
'I should practice those moves I got. I have about twenty minutes left before class starts. Maybe I can master something from it before then.'
He opened the system with just a thought and went straight for the description of the techniques he had gotten last night.
[Void Step: A technique that allows you to move at twice your speed in an instant.]
[Phantom Blade: A technique made for the blade that allows you to create an instant phantom blade for a second and confuse your opponent.]
Both of them looked very cool, but he could only start with one at a time, and he decided that Void Step was the best.
When they had magical duels, they had to cast their spells and use them to win against their opponents. But right now, Raze had no actual attack spell, so Void Step might help him dodge attacks faster.
From there, he would figure out how to win the duel or just wear his opponents down. Phantom Blade looked like a technique that would actually help his attacks, but it seemed much harder to learn from the name alone and the description.
"System, let's go with Void Step."
As soon as he said that, an influx of information came into his head so fast that he got scared and fell to the floor. In less than five seconds, everything he needed to know about the move Void Step was already in his head.
"Is this how it works? This is crazy," he said, the joy in his tone evident. He got up and got ready to do the same thing for Phantom Blade.
"System, let's go with Phantom Blade."
The same thing happened, but this time it took ten seconds for all the information to get into his head. But he could see why—the Phantom Blade technique was much harder than Void Step.
'I'm guessing the harder the technique, the more time it would take to learn.'
Since he had gotten the techniques, the best thing was to try and execute them. Raze took his stance.
'The Void Step technique uses my space-type mana in an instant to shorten space before I move, allowing me to go twice as fast logically.'
He drew a deep breath, ran through the process in his head, and then took a step. The technique was activated, and he moved twice as fast. But he wasn't ready for the cut in space and all that, so he tripped, fell, and rolled a good distance before stopping.
"It worked," he said in a pained yet happy tone. Then he lay his head on the ground, looking at the ceiling to rest a bit.
After resting for a minute, he got back up and tried again. This time, he actually landed it successfully. Excited, he did it more and more, over ten times, before finally stopping due to tiredness.
