Alex picked up the letter from the ground. He looked around and saw no one. He opened it carefully, not allowing even his group to notice him.
Raze watched that and felt it was weird. He didn't expect that Alex would hide it outright from his team. Raze had believed that Alex would actually show them, but then tell them not to follow him but to hide in the surroundings.
It was a risk factor that Raze had put into consideration before he made his move, but to his surprise, Alex hid it from them.
'Something is definitely fishy about that, but as long as the plan goes well, there will be no issues,' Raze thought.
Alex sneakily read the letter. His eyes opened wide after reading it. He folded it quickly and stuck it into his pocket very quickly.
He looked around again to see if there was anyone looking suspicious, but he didn't see anyone near him that could have done it.
Raze watched from a distance, seeing that his plan was fully in motion. He opened his book, wanting to kickstart the second part of his plan, and that was getting something very important.
[A recording rune, I will need one to be able to capture everything that Alex says. Proof against him, to use and blackmail him whenever I want to.]
Runes in a magical context are symbols or glyphs that channel, store, or manipulate magical energy. They can function in different ways depending on the system you're creating. Here's a breakdown of how runes can work in your story:
Runes were written or inscribed symbols that act as conduits for magic. They could be drawn, carved, or even formed in the air with mana. Each rune carries a unique meaning and effect, similar to a word or a command in a spell.
With runes, all one needed was mana, and he would have cast a spell that he could not normally.
A recording rune was used to capture time, space, and sound of a specific period, to be later played as a recording.
It wasn't hard to come by, but Raze would have to take out a student mini loan to get one. Students normally got points which they traded for stuff in the academy, but Raze was flat-out broke.
The way to get points was through academic excellence, and that was something Raze threw away in his pursuit of Alex.
A mini loan was a loan for points he could take and actually use to get stuff, but the interest was crazy.
"Sigh, I have to do what I have to do," Raze said.
[Shop feature is now functional, you can purchase items from it.]
"How convenient," Raze said with a smile. He thought about opening the shop function, and it did immediately.
A screen showing tons and tons of items appeared. He couldn't believe his eyes—spells, runes, techniques, even items of different sorts.
But good things are never easy. He saw that to buy each item, there was a list of necessary items that he had to get first before he could get the item he wanted, and they weren't cheap or simple to find.
He selected one of the items that he saw there, the dragon tooth blade.
[Dragon Tooth Blade.]
[Item description: Level is too low to read description.]
[Requirements: a dragon's tooth, dragon's blood, 20,000 SP.]
Raze paused when he read the requirements. How the hell was he supposed to get a dragon's tooth? In the whole story, Alex only managed to kill one dragon, and he was heavily injured in the process.
"That's not for me right now; what I need is a recording rune."
As he spoke about a recording rune, the screen changed, showing different types of recording runes from cheapest to most expensive.
But his current SP would only be able to cover the first recorder.
[Yellow paper recording rune: records a low video, low sound quality.]
[Requirements: Yellow paper, 100SP.]
Yellow paper was not hard to come by. In fact, almost everyone had one. It was the cheapest form of rune material around.
"I guess I'll have to get back to my room and get some yellow paper," Raze said. He wasn't worried about the 100SP because normally it would take a thousand points for him to buy one at the school.
He slowly waited for the class to round up. He got up after Peter dismissed them and headed for the cafeteria. He had skipped the first break and didn't have anything to eat, so he wanted to grab something quick.
After every two-hour class, they always had a one-hour break to do whatever they wanted, and all the classes they had today were two-hour classes.
He got to the building and saw other students inside eating as well. Feeding in the cafeteria was handled by the academy, but there were also some special foods that you could pay for with your points.
Raze didn't have any points, though, that he could spend on food right now. Points were kept in their ID cards. The cards were made of special material, and runes were drawn into them to enable them to keep information and also connect them to the academy's formation network.
He wasn't with his today, though, since he was in a hurry—not that it mattered, he had very little inside.
He walked to the counter. He didn't even take a plate; he just walked to the bread station, picked a portion of bread, stuffed it in his mouth, and left.
He bit into it and started chewing while holding the rest in his hand and his book in his other hand. Right now, he had to go and finish the groundwork for his plan, and that was getting the recorder ready.
The cafeteria was the only non-academic building that was connected to the academic building, and it was actually just an extension, not an actual part. So when you came out of it, the hallway led in two directions: one led to a door that led outside, and one led back into the academic building. Raze used the one that led outside and walked out.
