Inquisitor Valkyria traced her fingers over the crystalline growth protruding from the back of her neck. Her spine was mutating into a scorpion-like tail, tipped with a purple crystalline stinger.
"Bring the fleet to battle readiness," she commanded, licking the tip of her crystalline tail. "Prepare for a full lance strike."
Tech-priest Tolemy attempted to intervene. "My Lady, direct bombardment may trigger a warp rift—" His mechanical tendrils suddenly contorted into heart-shaped symbols. Valkyria's tail impaled his throat, and she flung his lifeless body onto the tactical hololith. "Dissenters will be purged."
Silence engulfed the bridge. None of the crew noticed that the Imperial Aquila emblazoned on Valkyria's chair was melting, slowly revealing an eight-pointed star—the mark of the Prince of Pleasure.
