Chereads / Ashes of a Fallen Legacy / Chapter 6 - Escape

Chapter 6 - Escape

Zane looked at him in front of him, with his eyes wide. Velrath was complaining earlier about how he wasn't completely free yet, but he just bombarded the entire hall with a single spell. Was he trying to be humble? Or maybe he simply wasn't sure yet if he could cast a spell as a ghost. Zane, of course, had thought the answer.

The reason why Velrath didn't just bombard his way out of here the moment he got unsealed was because he didn't have his physical body anymore. There was a possibility that he wouldn't be able to use magic at all, but I guess he was wrong.

Zane slowly stood up and stared at Velrath as he waited for the smoke to disappear. The explosion's impact had caused the entire hallway to be filled with dust.

Velrath grinned and said in his usual tone.

"Ah, I was sure I held back a bit. I didn't expect the entire hallway to be destroyed like this. Oh, well. So long as I am free, nothing matters! Wait, aren't I a ghost now? Doesn't that mean I can't really do anything else other than roam around?!"

Velrath crossed his arms, then his face turned serious.

"Hmm, but that's strange; I can still cast a spell... how does that make sense? I also feel like half of my power has been taken away; just a single spell like that had already taken away most of my mana. Sigh, what a pain. I guess I really am not completely free yet."

Velrath looked behind him, staring at the young boy with jet black hair and deep brown eyes. He then called out to him.

"Hey, what are you waiting for? Let's get out already."

Zane was distracted from his thoughts; right after Velrath called out to him, he then responded in his usual soft, timid voice.

"Oh, uh. Right."

The reason Zane was in deep thought was because he thought of the consequences of his actions. Zane unsealed Velrath, although Velrath doesn't really appear to be evil because of his playful personality. Zane knew demons were unpredictable; maybe Velrath was just manipulating him into making him trust him. Honestly, he didn't know.

Aside from that, the spell caused a really big explosion, which could alert everyone on this castle. Including Lyra, his mother figure, and he doesn't know what kind of excuse he will make to get out of it. He couldn't just tell him that he somehow found a mysterious hall and got pulled in, then unsealed Velrath, could he?

At this point, Zane was about to go insane.

However, right now he had to cast aside all these thoughts. What happened had happened already; the only thing he can do now is simply to keep moving forward. This mindset was what he had acquired from all the rough experiences he had in his life; I guess having a hard life has its own merits too.

Although he had a lot of questions to ask Velrath, he had to put them aside for now and walk forward, heading to the exit of the mysterious hall. Velrath was already ahead of him and was close to the exit, so he had to hurry out as well.

Zane wasn't really sure if he was the only one that could see Velrath, but just in case, he couldn't let anyone find out. That's why he had to hurry and go out of the mysterious hall as fast as he could.

'Damn this luck of mine!'

Zane hurried to go out, heading to the library. He had to go out before Lyra or anyone else had arrived at the library.

Breathing heavily, Zane and Velrath headed to the exit.

Moments afterwards, they finally got out.

The moment Zane stepped into the library, he hurriedly pulled the large shelves all on his own to cover the mysterious hall. Since Velrath completely destroyed even the stones and the shelves that covered the mysterious hall, it was left open for everyone to see. And he can't really let that happen, so he somehow had to do something to cover it up as much as possible.

Zane pulled the very large shelf near him and used it to block the mysterious hall somehow; his veins in his head could be seen, and as he was pulling it, it almost looked like it was going to explode.

Meanwhile, Velrath was looking at him, confused about what he was doing.

"Hey, kid. The hell are you doing?"

Zane responded, while still pulling the shelf all on his own.

"Isn't it obvious? I'm trying to cover the hall!"

Velrath could somehow get the gist of it, but still it felt kind of pointless. I mean, looking on the ground below him, the shattered debris of the stones could be seen anywhere; one of the shelves that covered the mysterious hall earlier was destroyed and was now lying on the floor, along with it's books.

"Hmm, aren't they somehow just going to discover it? What if they clean it or rebuild it sooner or later and pull the shelf out?"

Zane had now completely covered the mysterious hall with a very tall and large shelf. But, still, it wasn't really guaranteed that it would remain undiscovered forever. But, at least right now. Let it be undiscovered.

After pulling the large, tall shelf on to cover the mysterious hall. He kneeled down, exhausted. He was breathing heavily and was sweating really hard. He then slowly sat down on the floor and released a big sigh.

"Hey, aren't you going to hide? Velrath? They could possibly see you, you know."

Velrath looked at him, then said.

"No, I am confident only you could see me."

Zane stared at him with curiousity and said,.

"And why is that?"

Velrath looked away from Zane and smiled, he then said.

"I will tell you later, after you deal with this situation."

Footstep could finally be heard from outside; Zane could tell that it was heading towards the library he was currently in. He could've somehow run away earlier, but he was too tired.

"Damn it, this is really bad. Should I tell them I somehow fell and caused all of this mess? No, that wouldn't make any sense at all."

Although Zane's body didn't really feel that well, he tried to stand up. Velrath, who was looking at him, decided to ask.

"Where are you going, kid?"

Zane looked towards Velrath and said,.

"Im going to hide. I figured that if I didn't have any excuse to make, wouldn't it be better to just be not the cause of it?"

Velrath paused for a while; he then responded.

"Hmm, what if they found out?"

Zane smirked, then said.

"No, I am confident they won't."

The library was large. Very large, in fact; the shelves are tall as well, and it was also slightly dark. If he went on the opposite side where the disaster happened, they would definitely not be able to find Zane.

Zane then began to move; he moved as fast as he could, but at the same time he made sure that he didn't make any sound as well. He moved, hiding on the tall shelves and walking in the darkness, trying to go as far away as possible to the spot where the disaster happened.

Zane could already hear the large wooden door of the library opening; he could also hear a bunch of footsteps walking inside the library. But, Zane. He was already far away from where the mysterious hall was. Although he was far away, he was also close to the large wooden door of the library.

As Zane hid, waiting for a chance to go through the large wooden door. He could see a bunch of knights, butlers, and maids going inside the library. It seems that everyone was alerted by the loud noise.

The moment that the knights got in, they were being very cautious, as if thinking the explosion was caused by an intruder. Things will go badly for Zane if they decide to search the entire library.

Zane looked towards Velrath, who was just following him. He looked at Velrath with a serious face. Velrath could easily tell too what that face means.

'Damn you, Velrath!'

Velrath looked away from Zane's face, as if saying, 'You should be glad you got out of there instead of being stuck there for the rest of your life! '

Zane sighed. After all, what did he expect from a demon?

Zane simply waited until everyone's focus was on the disaster. Thinking that everything will go smoothly afterwards. However, he was wrong.

"Knights! Search the entire library and find the person who did this!"

Zane's face turned pale as he heard the general's voice.

'Crap, I'm fuck!'
