The next morning, Jasper woke up late as it was the weekend. He had no plans for the day and decided to spend the day at home. After waking up, he quickly took a shower to freshen up. As he went downstairs, he heard the sound of music playing and the strumming of a guitar. The melody drew his attention, and he followed the sound to the living room.
Victor was sitting on the couch, strumming a guitar and humming a tune. Jasper walked over and sat down beside him. "Hey, why don't you get out for a bit? Go for a walk or maybe some karaoke outside?" Victor suggested, looking at his son.
Jasper paused for a moment, considering the suggestion. Without much thought, Victor then added, "How about we go to karaoke together? Just the two of us."
Jasper, intrigued by the idea, nodded. "Alright, why not?" he said, getting up from the couch.
The two of them headed to the garage, where Victor opened the cover of his car. To Jasper's surprise, it wasn't just any car—it was a Supra. His jaw dropped as he stared at the sleek, powerful machine in front of him.
Victor grinned at Jasper's reaction. "Surprised? Let's get going."
They hopped in, and as soon as they were on the road, the drive was smooth, but a few moments later, another car came too close to theirs, almost causing an accident. Jasper was caught off guard, but Victor swiftly swerved to avoid it.
"Watch where you're going!" Victor yelled out, his grip tightening on the steering wheel. "You should've seen that coming, you idiot."
Jasper couldn't help but laugh a little. "I didn't expect that. Your driving is fast enough to scare anyone!"
Victor shook his head, a smirk on his face. "I'm just trying to get us there safely, Jasper. The roads are full of reckless drivers these days. Don't get comfortable in the passenger seat, kid."
Jasper leaned back, enjoying the rush of the drive as they headed out of the city. The wind from the open top of the car blew through his hair, and the sound of the engine roared as they picked up speed. "You know, Dad, I never imagined you'd be into karaoke," Jasper said with a teasing smile.
Victor chuckled. "You'd be surprised what a bit of singing can do to a person's mood. Besides, it's been a while since we did something fun, just the two of us."
They cruised down the road, passing by familiar landmarks, and as they neared the karaoke place, the excitement started to build. When they reached the entrance, the guard opened the gate, and Victor smoothly drove through, parking in a VIP spot. Jasper could feel the change in atmosphere; this was definitely not your usual karaoke spot.
As they stepped out of the car, Victor turned to Jasper with a playful grin. "Ready to see your old man show off?"
Jasper rolled his eyes. "I can't wait to hear you sing, Dad. Just don't embarrass me."
Victor laughed as they walked into the karaoke lounge, ready for a night of unexpected fun.
As they continued their journey, Victor suddenly made a quick stop. Jasper raised an eyebrow, confused by the sudden detour. Victor got out of the car, walked into a small shop nearby, and came back with a hat in hand. He handed it to Jasper with a grin. "Thought you might like this. Try it on," Victor said playfully as he slid back into the driver's seat.
Jasper took the hat, a little surprised by his father's impulsiveness but decided to give it a try. The hat was a sleek black cap, the kind that could add an edge to anyone's look. He put it on and looked at himself in the side mirror. "Not bad," he said, nodding slightly.
"Looks good on you," Victor commented with a satisfied nod, starting the engine again. "Let's go. We've got a bit of time before we get there."
As they drove, Jasper's curiosity kicked in, and he suddenly had the urge for some street food. "Stop at that stand," he said, pointing to a vendor selling snacks on the side of the road. "I've been craving this all week."
Victor pulled the car over, and Jasper quickly got out, heading straight for the vendor. He was greeted by a young girl who seemed cheerful and efficient. She handed him a bag of hot, crispy snacks, and Jasper exchanged a few words with her before paying.
"Thanks," he said, flashing a smile as he grabbed his food and headed back to the car.
As he reached the door, he hurried to open it, his excitement about the food overtaking his usual cool demeanor. Just as he was about to climb in, he noticed a group of pedestrians pointing their phones at the car. They were clearly taking pictures. Jasper felt a rush of self-consciousness and turned to look at the car, realizing it was no ordinary vehicle—it was a Supra, and with his dad behind the wheel, it was definitely drawing attention.
Some of the people were whispering and looking over at him. A few muttered something about the car being amazing, while others seemed more intrigued by the luxury of the situation. Jasper sighed but smiled awkwardly, pretending not to notice as he slid into the car.
Victor, noticing the attention, looked over at Jasper and chuckled. "Guess our ride's a little too flashy for some, huh?"
Jasper shrugged, not really bothered by the attention, but it was hard to ignore the stares. "It's fine. Just weird to have people taking pictures of us."
Victor winked as he started the car again, the engine purring to life. "Let them. We're just here to enjoy the day, not worry about what others think."
As they pulled away, Jasper glanced out of the window, still thinking about how people could be so fascinated by a car. He looked back at Victor, who was focused on the road ahead, the man who had created a life so different from his own—one full of surprises, including a surprise hat, a surprise stop, and a car that always seemed to attract attention. Jasper couldn't help but feel a sense of intrigue about his father's world, a world he was slowly beginning to understand, even if it felt out of his reach at times.
The car continued down the street, and just as they approached a busy intersection, Jun Ho, who had just exited a nearby café, spotted them. He was immediately taken aback upon recognizing Jasper in the car. "Wait... is that his dad?" Jun Ho muttered in disbelief, his eyes widening as he caught a glimpse of the sleek, luxurious Supra driving by. "Daebak!" he exclaimed, still staring, but Jasper didn't notice. He was too busy looking out of the window, lost in his own thoughts.
Victor, who was in a surprisingly good mood, paid little attention to the surroundings. After a few minutes of driving, they finally arrived at the karaoke place. The neon lights flashed as they parked, and the upbeat music from inside the building could be heard from the street.
They walked into the karaoke room, where the party atmosphere was already in full swing. As soon as they stepped in, everyone turned to look at them, but Victor's cheerful mood immediately lifted the spirits of everyone there. The moment he grabbed a microphone, he started belting out a popular song with unrestrained enthusiasm. Jasper watched, slightly embarrassed but amused by his father's carefree attitude. They sang and danced like there was no tomorrow, losing themselves in the music.
Victor, already a few drinks in, was clearly getting tipsy. At one point, he stumbled, nearly knocking over a microphone stand. "Woohoo!" Victor cheered, raising his glass, "Let's sing like there's no end!"
Jasper chuckled, rolling his eyes, but he stayed close to his father to make sure he wouldn't make a scene. He helped Victor get to the car when they decided to leave. "Come on, Dad. Time to go," Jasper said, carefully supporting Victor's weight as they staggered towards the parking lot.
But as they reached the car, Victor suddenly stopped and grinned widely. "Alright, Jasper, it's time to show your skills. You're driving tonight!"
Jasper was taken aback, eyes wide in disbelief. "Wait, what? I don't think I should drive, not in this condition," he replied, concerned about his father's state and the cold night air. The road was empty, but it didn't feel right.
Victor, still somewhat tipsy, laughed. "No, no, you've got this. You've got your skills. You can drive—show me what you've got."
Jasper looked at him skeptically but then realized his father wasn't in any state to drive, and the responsibility fell to him. "Alright," Jasper muttered under his breath. "Guess this is the moment."
He got into the driver's seat and adjusted the mirror, then started the engine. The sound of the Supra's engine roaring to life made Jasper's heart race. His palms were a little sweaty, but he shook it off, focusing on the road ahead. The night was cold, and the wind whipped through the open top of the car. But Jasper, despite his nerves, accelerated, feeling the car's power beneath him.
The wind rushed through his hair as the Supra tore through the streets, the speedometer rising higher and higher. Jasper's eyes narrowed in concentration, taking tight corners and weaving through empty streets, pushing the car to its limits. The feeling of freedom, the hum of the engine, and the exhilaration made his nerves fade away. This was something he had never done before—driving his father's car at top speed on a quiet, cool night—but he couldn't help but enjoy the thrill of it.
Victor, slumped in the passenger seat, was laughing like a maniac, barely aware of the speed they were going. "Faster, faster!" he shouted, his voice filled with excitement, oblivious to how close they were getting to the red lights and sharp turns.
"Don't get too carried away!" Jasper shouted back, trying to keep his focus, but a smile crept onto his face as the adrenaline surged through his veins.
Within minutes, they had made it back to the house, and Jasper carefully pulled the car into the driveway, parking it smoothly. His heart was still racing, but he couldn't help but feel proud of himself. He had driven the Supra—his father's prized possession—and he had done it without a hitch.
Victor, still in high spirits, leaned back and gave Jasper a thumbs-up. "Well done, son. You've got the skills. See? I knew you could do it."
Jasper exhaled, relieved that they had made it home safely. He looked at his father, who was still smiling, and shook his head, amused by how unpredictable his life had become ever since Victor stepped back into it. "Thanks, Dad," he said, a smile tugging at the corners of his lips. "But next time, let's leave the driving to me when you're sober."
Victor laughed, completely oblivious to the seriousness of the situation. "Deal!"
As they quietly entered the house, the silence was suddenly broken by a voice calling out from behind them. "Victor... Jasper!" It was his mother, standing in the living room, clearly startled to see them arriving at such an hour.
Victor, ever the charming one, quickly turned around with a grin. "Ah, darling, we were just having a little fun tonight," he said, trying to lighten the mood. His tone was playful, as if this late-night excursion was nothing out of the ordinary. "Jasper drove the car all the way back home, I couldn't be prouder."
Jasper immediately closed his mouth, feeling a mix of awkwardness and embarrassment. He didn't want to explain himself, especially since the night had already been chaotic enough. He just hoped his mother wouldn't ask too many questions.
They all sat down together in the living room, the atmosphere a bit tense but trying to keep it light. The house staff, who had been quietly attending to their duties, seemed to go back to the kitchen, pretending not to notice the late-night scene unfolding in front of them.
Jasper's mother, not one to miss a detail, eyed Victor carefully. "So," she began, her voice steady but pointed, "did you take Jasper out for a drink tonight? Was he drinking alcohol?" Her eyes narrowed slightly, and she shot a glance at Victor.
Victor, ever the smooth talker, quickly brushed off her concern with a chuckle. "Of course not, darling! We were just having a good time. Jasper didn't have a drop, right?" He winked at his son, trying to avoid any more confrontation.
Jasper just nodded silently, his gaze fixed on the floor, trying to look as inconspicuous as possible. He didn't want to get caught in a lie, but he didn't want to get into a long conversation about the night's events either.
His mother sighed, giving both of them a long, appraising look. After a moment of silence, she shook her head and sighed again. "You two are impossible," she muttered, then stood up. "Alright, come on, let's have dinner, I've made something special."
Jasper, feeling the weight of the night catch up to him, quickly shook his head. "I'm not hungry, Mom. I'm just going to head to my room," he said, not wanting to deal with any more family drama for the night.
Victor, still with a mischievous grin on his face, leaned back in his chair and lazily said, "I'm actually full, darling. We had a huge meal at the karaoke place, remember?" He quickly excused himself as well, dodging his wife's increasingly frustrated glances.
Jasper shot a glance at his mother as he stood up, but she only sighed and let him go. She was too tired to argue anymore. "Fine, fine," she muttered, not even looking at Victor as she turned to leave the room. She could see where this was going, and at this point, she knew it was pointless to argue.
Jasper made his way to his room, his mind racing with the events of the evening. As soon as he entered his room, he closed the door behind him and leaned against it, taking a deep breath. The weight of the day, the drama with his dad, and the chaotic karaoke session had finally caught up with him.
He just wanted to be left alone for a while.
