Chereads / a different kind of transformer / Chapter 30 - Restlessness

Chapter 30 - Restlessness

It had been a couple days since Y/n's confinement. All the weapons have been eaten and any toy or plastic object destroyed. The only thing left in the room was Y/n and plushies.

To put it simply

They were quickly getting bored.

Y/n: Mmmmmmmmmmmm....

They were atleast the size of a small vehicon. However their form was very flimsy and malleable, unable to harden without shrinking down back to roughly the size of a human car.

Y/n: I'm Boreeeeeeeddddddd!

Y/n stretched lazily, their form shifting as they watched the reflection in the glass. The lack of excitement had grown unbearable, and they had been thinking of ways to pass the time. A wicked smirk tugged at their face as an idea formed in their mind.

Y/n: Alright, Soundwave. Let's make this fun.

They stood up, their body rippling and morphing, taking on a more familiar shape, a very familiar shape. Their form solidified, now resembling Soundwave's tall, sleek frame, though with a slightly more exaggerated posture and movements. The visor glowed in the same dull hue as his, and their voice modulated into an eerily perfect mimicry of Soundwave's calm monotone.

Y/n: Containment is necessary. Boredom: irrelevant

They mimicked in a teasing tone, their movements deliberately slow and fluid.

With a smirk, they leaned closer to the glass, tapping a finger against it and giving Soundwave's likeness a cocky tilt of the head.

Y/n: You like the look? I thought I'd try something a little more… you.

Silence followed for a moment, then the familiar hum from the speakers filled the room. Y/n could almost hear the tension through the static as Soundwave's voice broke the silence.

Soundwave: Unnecessary. Imitation: ineffective.

Y/n's smirk widened, clearly enjoying the challenge.

Y/n: Oh, I wouldn't say that. You're always so serious, so distant. Thought maybe I'd help loosen things up. You like what you see?

They leaned against the glass, hands resting behind their back as they gave Soundwave's reflection a more flirtatious gaze, slowly running a finger down the visor of the glass.

The flicker in Soundwave's visor on the observation screen suggested something, though he didn't respond immediately. Y/n took this silence as an invitation to keep going.

Y/n: I know you're always watching me. Don't think I haven't noticed. Can't blame you, though.

They shifted closer to the glass, their tone dropping into a low, playful whisper.

Y/n: I'm very… interesting, after all. Come on, your maybe God wants to hang out with you!

The speakers crackled again, and Soundwave's voice responded, though this time with a hint of something else hesitation, perhaps?

Soundwave: Maintain... protocol.

Y/n laughed, the sound light and teasing as they leaned back, still keeping Soundwave's form.

Y/n: Oh, come on, Soundwave. I know you're all about rules and following orders, but even you have to admit this is a little interesting.

They traced a finger along the glass, eyes locked on the observation screen where Soundwave watched in silence.

Y/n: I'll bet Megatron doesn't know just how close you keep an optic on me. What would he think if he knew you were so… protective?

For a brief moment, the light in Soundwave's visor flickered again. Y/n knew they had hit a nerve, and they reveled in it.

Y/n: But don't worry, big guy. Your secret's safe with me.

They chuckled softly, the sound vibrating in the chamber as they slowly shifted back into their original form, albeit keeping some of the sleekness of Soundwave's silhouette.

Y/n: I'll behave, only if you come down here and play with me for awhile.

Soundwave didn't respond immediately, but Y/n could feel the weight of his gaze through the observation screen. The silence stretched between them before the speakers crackled once more.

Soundwave: Observation... continues.

Y/n: Noooo, play with me please!

With that, Y/n flopped back onto the plushies, their smirk lingering. Playing with Soundwave had proven far more entertaining than they'd anticipated. Now, they just had to wait and see how far they could push things before the quiet Decepticon showed up.

Y/n: This is gonna be fun.

*With Soundwave*

Soundwave walked out of the observation room. Y/n's antics were proving very distracting and he simply couldn't ignore the slime.

So he walked down several hallways. His visor glitching every now and again as he gets stopped by Knockout and Breakdown.

Breakdown: Hey Soundwave.

Knockout: How's Y/n doing?

Soundwave: Annoying...

Breakdown: Oh their doing something that got under your metal? This I have to know...

They then both begin to follow Soundwave as he heads to Y/n's containment room.

As Soundwave approached Y/n's containment room, the faint sounds of muffled laughter echoed through the door, and Knockout raised an optic ridge, clearly intrigued.

Knockout: Annoying, huh? That's not something we hear from you every day.

Breakdown grinned, clearly enjoying the rare sight of Soundwave ruffled.

Breakdown: Gotta hand it to Y/n, if they managed to get under your plating like this...

Soundwave didn't respond, but his visor flickered slightly as he input the code to unlock the door. The sound of the door sliding open drew Y/n's attention, and their eyes lit up with amusement when they saw Soundwave accompanied by Knockout and Breakdown.

Y/n: Well, well, looks like I got a whole audience now.

They stretched out lazily on the plushies, a mischievous grin spreading across their face. Soundwave stepped into the room, his expression hidden behind his visor, but his posture was stiff, and his movements more deliberate than usual. Y/n tilted their head, watching him with a playful glint in their eyes.

Y/n: Aww, don't be so tense, Soundwave. I was just trying to have a little fun.

Knockout crossed his arms, leaning against the doorframe with a smirk.

Knockout: I'm curious now. What exactly did Y/n do to get under your processors?

Breakdown chuckled, giving Soundwave a pat on the shoulder.

Breakdown: Yeah, you gotta share. We never get to see you this worked up.

Y/n sat up, crossing their legs as they watched the exchange. They gave a mock gasp, holding a hand to their chest.

Y/n: Worked up? Who, Soundwave? Nah, he's just... focused. Aren't you, big guy?

Soundwave remained silent, his visor locking onto Y/n as they stood up, their body once again shifting slightly, teasingly adopting Soundwave's sleek silhouette again, though this time with exaggerated elegance. Grabbing onto a makeshift pole and swinging around on it a bit, stopping upside down.

Y/n: I was just trying to give him a little break. He's always so serious, after all.

Knockout's smirk widened as he glanced between Y/n and Soundwave.

Knockout: Well, I can see why he's... distracted.

Breakdown: Yeah, can't say I blame him. Y/n's... hard to ignore.

Soundwave remained still, though his visor flickered briefly again. Y/n took a step closer, their form slowly returning to its original shape, though they kept a playful sway to their movements.

Y/n: Come on, Soundwave, you brought company. Does this mean we're finally going to have some fun?

The silence stretched between them, and Y/n's grin grew wider. They could sense the tension in the air, and they were reveling in every moment of it.

Y/n: Let's make a deal. I'll stop... distracting you, but only if you play along for just a little while. What do you say?

Soundwave's visor dimmed slightly, and after a long pause, the speakers crackled with a low hum.

Soundwave: Deal.

Y/n's grin turned triumphant as they stepped back, giving Soundwave a playful salute.

Y/n: Yay! How about some cards! I have a deck around here somewhere?

Y/n grabs a deck from under a plushie as Knockout effortlessly pulls out a Cybertronian sized deck. Both Breakdown and Soundwave look at him.

Knockout: What? Sometimes me and my patients get bored while waiting for tests.

Breakdown: Well, let's get started. I only know how to play Blackjack.

Y/n: Blackjack works for me!

Y/n plopped down onto the plush pile, spreading out their cards as Knockout, Breakdown, and Soundwave took their places around the makeshift table. The air buzzed with a mixture of amusement and tension, especially from Soundwave, who had reluctantly agreed to join the game. Y/n's grin never left their face, clearly thrilled with how things had turned out.

Knockout shuffled his oversized Cybertronian deck with ease, tossing cards to each player as the game began. Y/n, ever the trickster, kept sneaking glances at Soundwave, who remained quiet and composed, though his visor flickered from time to time as the game progressed.

Y/n: Alright, Soundwave, let's see if you're as good with cards as you are with surveillance.

The first round went smoothly, Y/n racking up a win without much effort. Knockout and Breakdown exchanged glances, realizing Y/n wasn't just toying with Soundwave—they were a skilled player too. The second round followed, with Y/n winning again, their grin widening with every victory.

Breakdown: Alright, what's your secret, Y/n? You're not cheating, are ya?

Y/n feigned innocence, shrugging dramatically.

Y/n: Who, me? I would never! Maybe I'm just lucky. Or maybe I've just been bored long enough to get really good at this game.

By the third round, Breakdown was visibly getting frustrated. His optic twitched as Y/n won yet again, their smug smile only fueling his growing annoyance. Soundwave, though silent, was clearly keeping a close eye on every move Y/n made.

Breakdown: Alright, that's it! There's no way you're this good!

He slammed his fist on the table, making the cards jump. Knockout snickered under his breath, watching Breakdown's temper flare. Y/n leaned back with an exaggerated sigh, still holding onto their winning hand.

Y/n: Aw, don't be a sore loser, Breakdown. It's just a game. You can always try again.

Breakdown gritted his teeth, his optics narrowing as his frustration boiled over. With one swift motion, he stood up, his towering frame casting a shadow over Y/n.

Breakdown: You think this is funny, huh?

Y/n grinned up at him, completely unfazed by his outburst.

Y/n: Well, yeah. It is funny.

That was the last straw. With a roar of anger, Breakdown slammed his fist into the glass containment barrier, the force causing it to crack. The room went silent as everyone stared at the shattered glass. Soundwave's visor flickered in warning, and Knockout raised a brow, clearly impressed by Breakdown's display of raw power.

However alarms blared and were shut off quickly thanks to Soundwave.

Y/n: Huh.....

Breakdown growled, his optics blazing as he took a step forward, but Soundwave raised a hand, stopping him in his tracks.

Soundwave: Control… necessary

Y/n stared at the broken glass, it was nice to feel fresh air enter into his body. However when Megatron came in with his gun drawn and aimed at Y/n... tensions only rose

Y/n: I didn't try to escape! BREAKDOWN IS JUST A SORE LOSER!!!!

Y/n claims quickly hiding behind the pile of plushies as their body shrinks and condensed.

Soundwave: Not false.

Megatron: All of you, to the deck. NOW!

Y/n: Great I could use some fresh air

Y/n says as their head pops out from the pile of plushies. Only for a cannon round to be fired next to them.

Megatron: EXCEPT YOU!

*Timeskip*

Knockout, Breakdown, and Soundwave. Were all gathered on the deck. Megatron glaring daggers at them a except Soundwave.

Megatron paced back and forth, his crimson optics glowing with irritation as he glared at the three gathered before him. The silence stretched for what felt like an eternity before Megatron finally spoke, his voice cold and commanding.

Megatron: Explain to me how a simple observation turned into… this!

He motioned to the cracked containment glass and the faint traces of chaos left behind by Y/n's antics. Knockout shifted uncomfortably under the weight of Megatron's gaze, while Breakdown simply crossed his arms, still fuming from his earlier outburst. Soundwave, as always, remained impassive, though Megatron's frustration was clear.

Knockout: Well, Lord Megatron, to be fair, it wasn't exactly our fault. Y/n has a… unique way of getting under people's plating, and-

Megatron: TRUST ME I KNOW!!!

Megatron cut him off with a sharp gesture.

Megatron: I am not interested in excuses. I am interested in results. Y/n was placed in containment for a reason. You three were responsible for ensuring they stayed put, and yet here we are, with shattered glass and alarms blaring across the Nemesis!

Breakdown uncrossed his arms, his optic twitching as he stepped forward.

Breakdown: They kept winning at cards, alright? It was getting real annoying. I may have… lost my cool.

Megatron's optics narrowed, and a low growl escaped him.

Megatron: You jeopardized the mission because you couldn't handle losing?

Breakdown: *mumbling* They're a cheater, I swear…

Knockout stifled a chuckle, but quickly cleared his throat when Megatron's glare shifted to him.

Knockout: Look, we can fix this. Y/n's still in containment, and it's not like they actually tried to escape. They're just… restless. Maybe we could find a way to contain them that doesn't involve breaking a cell?

Megatron crossed his arms, still glaring down at the group.

Megatron: Find a solution quickly, or I will personally see to it that the next containment breach is dealt with… more severely.

His tone left no room for argument. With that, Megatron turned on his heel and stormed off, leaving Knockout, Breakdown, and Soundwave standing on the deck.

Knockout sighed, glancing between Breakdown and Soundwave.

Knockout: Well, that went about as well as expected. Now we've got to figure out how to keep Y/n entertained and avoid another breakdown- no offense, Breakdown.

Breakdown grunted in response, still clearly irritated. Meanwhile, Soundwave's visor flickered faintly as he remained silent, contemplating their next move.

Knockout: Alright, Soundwave, any brilliant ideas on how to keep our little chaos god from driving the rest of us mad?

Soundwave's visor glowed slightly brighter, and after a moment of deliberation, he finally spoke.

Soundwave: Distraction… necessary. Limited… interaction permitted.

Knockout raised a brow, intrigued.

Knockout: So, we keep them busy with something -anything- that'll stop them from stirring up more trouble. But what exactly?

Breakdown: *grumbling* Maybe we just need to let them to lose at cards for a bit...

Soundwave's visor flickered again, and after a moment, he turned and started walking back towards Y/n's containment room.

Knockout: Hey, where are you going?

Soundwave: Solution… in progress.

The others exchanged glances before following Soundwave back down the hallway.
