For a second and two, he waited for the reporter to burst out in laughter, or for the disappointment to actually hit Christine' her face.
"I guess it's such a shame people still doubt you till today, sir." Drake said, "we can provide her ID and employment letter if you still have doubts. Come on sir, miss Christine, madam Coco, thanks for your service." He walked over to grandma Coco and handed a fancy bag to her before leading Christine and Alec to the big room.
Never had Christine had the opportunity to step foot in that room before. Only the rich and powerful went that way. It was a well lit room, very quiet too.
"You must serve a living god because that was just crazy." Alec remarked.
Christine took a moment to come back to reality. "You used me back then to save your family's name, didn't you?"
"Miss, we know of your help towards the community, and we are grateful." Drake said to her.
"Please, stop wasting your breath on this one. Her foolish act of bravery has earned her a job already, though I guarantee you wouldn't even last 24 hours."
"Sir, let me handle this." Drake warned.
"Did I stop you? Go on, Drake."
"I don't need your job. You owe her an apology." Christine stood her ground even though her knees were wobbling now. The thought that she was in the midst of the rich and powerful her uncle had always talked about!
"Miss, forgive the young master's childish behavior. The job offer still stands, because we need the public to believe our story. This is a token of our appreciation." He stretched forward his hand to give Christine a gift.
This disgusted her for some reason. "It's fine. I'll take it that you are a kind fellow. Compare to this one over here,"
"I am your boss, young woman."
"I'm even surprised you were able to remember my name afterall." Christine cut off.
Alec carried a wild smile on his face for a brief moment acting surprised and shocked. "Wow, I appreciate this moment, but you're not really my type." Then the boredom was back in his eyes. "Why do we have to keep her anyway, Drake?"
"Nobody is keeping me. I don't want your offer–" the words choked right as she'd spoken them out. "Are you a fool, Chris? An offer at the Maynard corporation?? Uncle will be so happy!!!" She thought in her head, unable to believe her luck.
"Are you seriously screeching right now? You sound like one of the evil crows from my unalived uncle Demi haunted mansion." Alec blinked, feeling suddenly disturbed."
"Miss," Drake stepped forward with the gift still with him. "Here is my card, please call me tomorrow morning so we can talk better. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity and I wouldn't want you to miss it."
Christine just stood still, unsure of what to think. Or do. Finally, she accepted the card and gift. "Thank you, Drake. Or is it Mr. Drake?"
"I prefer Mr. Houston." He corrected.
"Oh, right. Mr. Houston." She saw Alec laughing at her. "I'll take my leave now then."
Drake shook his head, "uh, you can't. At least not until those reporters leave."
"The reporters won't be leaving soon, in fact, right now they are desperate and won't leave until they see me." Christine said.
