Chapter 6 - Talk About Evil Witch

Alec leaned forward to whisper in Drake's ears, and Christine could hear the words 'evil witch' and 'chaotic'. What evil witch?

They had her time once again as they turned to face her. "Then at least let us escort you, there's a back entrance." Drake said.

"I can't, my uncle is still around. Besides, I'm still needed here and–"

"Dora?" Alec cut her off, "your life isn't yours anymore. At least for a week or two. You have to be careful now of the media. You are officially a staff member of the Maynard corporation, and you'll need to start acting like one."

Something about his tone seemed to make her feel chilly, and she didn't like it. "What's that supposed to mean?"

"I don't like this one. Why am I the only one, Drake?" Alec said looking frustrated.

"I would love for you to meet with me tomorrow so we can talk better, miss Christine. Please?" Drake's voice sounded convincing at least that Christine gave a nod. Was this about to become her new life now? She was close to being jobless anyway, since Solomon was a brother to her boss.

That Monday morning, Christine didn't knew she could be that nervous–she didn't think she had ever been that nervous before anyway.

From the moment she stepped into the grand building, she had been having cold feet. To worsen if all, none of them were nice people. From the receptionist to the visitors and staff members from her department…it was as if they had looked her up and down and decided to hate her. Most of them ignored her, while others spoke rudely to her face.

"Damn it, you rich people." She muttered under her breath, "it's not even like I'm underdressed." Thanks to her outings at various fundraisers, she had been able to own some lovely formal wears that could carry her to the White House even.

"You are Mrs. Christine, yes?" Said a round figure standing before her. With his face pale as snowhite, she had to look if he had extra tone of concealer on his face. It was obvious he had highlighted the rest of his face with makeup anyway with his perfectly outline lips and long lashes. His legs were stretched out in those skinny pants and now Christine stared more, he stood in a funny way scattering his legs out like his pants had been too tight on his balls.

"Yes." She remembered to respond. "Are you another one of these people who just hates me naturally?"

Christine knew she would not be wasting time at that company after seeing how they all behaved on her first day! The man's lips parted open and was about to respond. Her phone's ringtone cut off whatever this Snow White dude was about to say. She looked on the screen and shrugged, cutting off the call.

"What? No way, I'm a good guy." The man blurted out. He was quick to reply. "My name is Paul, and I do care. I will be showing you to your office. It is clear you're done with all of HR work, yes?"

"Um, yes. I just have some form to take home to my uncle, that's all. I'll submit tomorrow." Christine explained.

"Wonderful! Now, please come with me." Excited Paul led the way forward. After a couple more elevator trip, they were on a new floor with lots of busier staff. Now, the dressings and attitude of these guys signified that they were in a much higher ranks.

"I'm going to be working with these people?" Thought Christine.
