Chapter 48: The Escape
Rachel's eyes locked onto Ethan's, a fierce determination burning within them. "We have to get out of here, now!" she yelled.
Ethan nodded, his heart still racing from the shootout. "The server!" he exclaimed, holding up the precious device.
Rachel nodded, her eyes scanning the surrounding area. "I've got a car waiting," she said. "Let's move!"
As they sprinted towards the car, Ethan could hear the sound of sirens approaching. The Syndicate's agents were closing in.
They dove into the car, Rachel peeling out of the parking lot just as the agents arrived. Ethan looked back, watching as the warehouse disappeared into the distance.
They drove in silence for a few moments, the only sound the hum of the engine. Finally, Rachel spoke up.
"We need to get the evidence to the authorities," she said. "But we can't trust anyone. The Syndicate has moles everywhere."
Ethan nodded, his mind racing. Who could they trust?
And then, just as they were approaching the city limits, Ethan's phone buzzed with an incoming message.
"Meet me at the old windmill on the outskirts of town," the message read. "Come alone."
Ethan's heart skipped a beat. Who was sending him these messages?
To be continued.
