Chapter 31: The Midnight Meeting
Ethan's eyes scanned the deserted warehouse, his heart pounding in his chest. He had come alone, as instructed, but he couldn't shake the feeling that he was walking into a trap.
As he stepped further into the warehouse, a figure emerged from the shadows. It was Alex.
"Ethan," Alex said, his voice low and serious. "I'm glad you came."
Ethan's eyes narrowed. "What do you want, Alex?" he asked.
Alex hesitated before speaking. "I want to help you take down The Syndicate," he said.
Ethan's eyes widened in surprise. "Why?" he asked.
Alex's face was grim. "Because I've seen what they're capable of," he said. "And I don't want to be a part of it anymore."
Ethan studied Alex's face, searching for any sign of deception. But all he saw was sincerity.
"Okay," Ethan said finally. "I'll trust you. But if you're playing me, you'll regret it."
Alex nodded, a small smile on his face. "I'm not playing you, Ethan. I promise."
As they shook hands, Ethan felt a sense of hope that he hadn't felt in weeks. Maybe, just maybe, they could take down The Syndicate after all.
But as they turned to leave, Ethan heard a noise behind them. The sound of footsteps, echoing off the warehouse walls.
Ethan's heart sank. They weren't alone.
To be continued.
