Chereads / Payback: Juan Carlos / Chapter 2 - THE BEGINNING

Chapter 2 - THE BEGINNING

"So you fancy yourself a fast driver, eh? Find your way to the car park in the central of the city and follow further instructions. It's trekking distance but you will get there faster if you drive," the thick voice said and ended the call.

Juan looked around the phone booth. There were some more people at the other edge and he didn't want to seem confused, even though he was really confused. How will he just be told to go to the central park without some more clarification? What was he going to look for when he got there? Is he going to see someone there? Juan simply shook his head and dusted his trousers, preferring to walk to the central car park.

He was not sure what he was going to meet at the park so the best bet was to just walk there, taking in the breeze of the outside before going for the next endeavor.

After serving his time in prison, Juan had gone to meet Ryder, his friend from the penitentiary, hoping to get some resources that would help him locate the killers only to discover that there was a long hierarchy chain between him and Ryder. Well, he was going to be assigned some tasks that would enable him climb the ladder faster, or so they said.

He got to the park and turned it, surprised to find it deserted save for an heavily tinted blue limousine, sitting alone in the center of the park. Knowing what he was supposed to do next, he walked to the side and tried the door; it gave way. Juan looked around one more time, then sat inside the limo, shutting the door behind him.

The dashboard of the vehicle popped up, a message appearing on the screen. A call sign came on the screen and he picked it up.

"Hello Juan," the familiar voice sounded.

"Hello, who's this?"

"It's Ryder. My guys tell me you will be the one handling the jobs. How are you settling in?"

"Well, it's my first job and I can't wait to know what it entails."

"Good, you will find it. Have you had experience with weapons before you went to prison?"

"I was retired Marines, and I think I know my way around triggers."

"Good good, before we get you out on the road. We have to make sure you are fit for the missions to come. A communications device is taped under the steering wheel of the vehicle, I will use that to communicate with you," and the call went off.

Juan reached out and found an envelope, ripping it apart to reveal a wireless earpods in it. He fixed it in his ear and switched it on.

"Welcome back Juan. How's the sound?"

"I can hear you loud and clear."

"Good, I got some boys into tech over here. Your first objective is to exit the car park and go to the concrete opening just at the corner of the pack, you should be able to sight it from where you are."

Juan opened the door and went outside, following Ryder's instructions.

"When you get there, open the weapon's crates and test your trigger fingers."

"Uhmm… it's out in the open air and there are lots of civilians passing."

"Yeah, that's the fun of it. Do it without hitting any civilians. Don't worry about the cops, they are all bought."

Juan got to the opening as instructed and opened the wooden crate, finding a bazooka in it. It was loaded and ready.

"Now, you see those dummies to the right, hit them without crossing the line."

"How are you able to see me?"

"You don't worry yourself about that and just do as you are told."

Admiring the sleek design of the gun, Juan aimed up from the crates side and hit the three dummies without a slight mistake, cocking the gun and returning it to the crate.

"That was bloody massive!!" Ryder shouted from over the phone. "Welcome to the mafia. Do you need some rest or you are ready for your first day?"

Juan looked around, noticing how the patrol vehicles passed and none of them branched to where he had just performed a shooting publicly; this was indeed the city of crime.

"That was barely a scratch of my energy. What do I need to do?"

"Go back to the limo, details about your next mission will be there. Anyways, your bonus for the first job will be sent to your account. You are on the pathway of being in the inner family."
