"Once you start the car, you will see some coordinates and a timer. You must get to the marked location before the timer runs out or you are out of the game."
"Why do I have to do all of this?" Juan asked, shrugging his shoulders.
"You have to do it because we've asked you to do it. You want to get into the mafia, you have to do what they asked you to do," Ryder growled, his voice cold and harsh. Juan knew better than to argue with a retired drug lord of the streets.
The car started and he slowly backed out of the garage, an heads up display appearing on the screen on the vehicle. He looked closely and an orange blip appeared on the screen, pointing to a couple hundred meters away from him, just at the mouth of the bridge.
A tone sounded and he looked at the sound, the timer appearing. He had shorter time than he needed and he stepped on the gas, the big car lurching forward. He drove to the blip and another blip appeared again, also appearing on the little screen in the car. Keeping up with speed, Juan stepped on it again and went forward, the distances getting longer for the time he was given. He was already over the bridge and through the four corners of Midtown till the blips brought him back to the second bridge, but there was still another one ahead.
"In case you were wondering, the car is reinforced titanium, the strongest in the world. So you don't have to worry about the lights or the trashcan…or the civilians," Ryder's voice came again, interrupting Juan's train of thoughts.
Juan thought Ryder liked blood and killing a little too much but he kept his thoughts to himself, keeping his eyes on the road.
There was a static crackling on the earphone and his disturbing voice came on again, Juan tried his best not to frown. "There is someone I would like you to meet once you reach the end of this mission."
"Well, I have been driving endlessly around town for the past two hours now and there's no sign of an end. Does this thing even use fuel?"
"It's an electric car, cars of the future, hehe."
Juan was not making out anything his friend was saying and he watched out for the next blip, the location appearing to be just meters to the left. He was too fast for the T-junction.
Juan marched the brakes and swerved the steering, the tail of the limo bumping into the front of a Wrangler Jeep, the jeep skidding out of control. He cursed under his breath and applied more pressure on the accelerator again.
He entered the last blip and a mission complete showed on the screen with no further instructions.
"Mission complete lad, welcome to the big leagues now."
"Okay, what should I do with the car?"
"Return it to where you left it and return to the payphones; more missions will be taped for you there."
Juan shook his head and rolled the car to a steady stop at the car park, opening the door only to be greeted with a hard punch on the face.
"What do you think you are doing?" the assaulter asked, landing another punch on Juan before he could react.
He raised his hands for another punch but Juan was more prepared and he sidestepped, making the man open a side. Juan took it and gave the man a punch in the open space, making him reel out of control.
"Who the hell are you and why are you attacking me?"
"You bashed my car and you didn't even bother to apologize or talk about it, are you insane?"
"Wait, we can sort this gently," Juan tried to apologize.
"Sort this? No way!"
