The morning air was crisp, the scent of damp earth and pine filling the space around them as the horse moved through the forest at a steady pace. The trees stretched high, their leaves rustling in the soft breeze, sunlight filtering through in golden streaks.
Birds chattered in the distance, flitting between branches, their wings creating faint bursts of movement in the canopy above. Every now and then, a squirrel would scurry across their path before disappearing into the undergrowth, its tiny paws barely making a sound against the dirt.
Lidia exhaled slowly, her body relaxing despite herself.
She leaned slightly to the side, resting her arm on the saddle as she let her gaze wander over the scenery. "How much longer before we get to our destination?"
The knight didn't answer right away. His grip on the reins remained firm, his gaze focused ahead.
"Some couple of days," he said simply.
