"How is it? You already took a peek at my information, right?" James smiled cheekily.
Eamon's heart pounded as he watched James's face.
His silky white hair and flawless face, combined with the emerald green eyes that shone under the sun, captivated him.
He glanced up at James, who still wore that playful smile.
"Why are you here, really?" Eamon asked, his voice tinged with curiosity and a hint of suspicion.
"Just because. You seem a little bit lonely here." James' expression softened.
Eamon's guarded demeanour wavered as he felt a genuine warmth emanating from James. Despite his initial suspicion, he couldn't help but feel drawn to this enigmatic stranger.
"I suppose I could use some company." Eamon admitted, a small smile tugging at his lips.
"Good, because I was planning on staying for a while." James' playful grin widened.
Eamon and James began to make small talk, their conversation light and filled with laughter. Eamon found himself enjoying James' company more than he had anticipated.
"So, what are you doing in this garden?" Eamon asked, curiosity evident in his voice.
"Hmm… Playing hide and seek maybe?" James replied, his eyes twinkling with mischief.
Eamon chuckled, shaking his head.
"You're quite the character, James." James shrugged, his grin widening.
"I like to keep things interesting. How about we makes some flowers crown?"
"Flower crowns? Really?" Eamon raised an eyebrow, amused.
"Why not?" James said, already bending down to gather some flowers.
"It's a fun way to pass the time. Plus, you'll look good in one."
Eamon couldn't help but laugh.
"Alright, let's do it."
They spent the next few minutes weaving flower crowns, their fingers deftly working with the delicate blooms.
The garden was filled with their laughter and light-hearted banter, and for a moment, Eamon felt a sense of normalcy and joy that he hadn't experienced in a long time.
Their conversation continued, each word drawing them closer.
But just as Eamon was beginning to feel a sense of ease, Evan suddenly appeared, his eyes sharp and his stance protective.
"Step away from the young master." Evan commanded, positioning himself between Eamon and James.
James raised his hands in a gesture of surrender, his playful demeanour replaced by seriousness.
"Easy there, I'm not here to cause trouble."
Eamon looked between Evan and James, sensing the tension.
"Brother Evan, it's okay. James is a friend."
Evan's eyes remained fixed on James, distrust evident in his gaze.
"A friend? How do you know you can trust him?"
James sighed, his expression softening.
"I get it. You're just looking out for him. But I promise, my intentions are genuine."
"Brother, please..." Eamon placed a reassuring hand on Evan's arm.
Evan hesitated for a moment before nodding reluctantly, his protective instincts still on high alert.
"Fine. But you need to get back to your ward, young master. You've had enough excitement for one day."
Eamon sighed, knowing Evan was right.
"Alright. I'll see you around, James."
"See you soon." James replied with a wink, his playful grin returning.
As Eamon and Evan made their way back to the hospital ward, Eamon couldn't help but feel a sense of longing.
He wanted to spend more time with James, but he knew Evan was only looking out for his well-being.
.............................................
"Young master, how many times that I need to remind you don't talk to strangers." Evan's voice was stern but filled with concern.
Eamon sighed, feeling a mix of frustration and understanding.
"I know, Evan. But James isn't just a stranger. He's different."
Evan raised an eyebrow, scepticism etched on his face.
"Different how?"
Eamon hesitated, searching for the right words.
"I can't explain it. He just makes me feel...normal, like I'm not just a patient or someone to be protected. He treats me like a friend."
Evan's expression softened slightly, but his protectiveness remained.
"I understand, young master. But my duty is to keep you safe, and I can't do that if you're taking risks."
"I appreciate everything you do for me, Evan. But sometimes, I need a bit of freedom too." Eamon's voice was gentle but firm.
Evan sighed, realizing the truth in Eamon's words.
"Alright, young master. But please, be careful."
Eamon nodded, a small smile playing on his lips.
"I will, brother. I promise."
That night, as the hospital settled into a quiet hush, James snuck back into the hospital.
His shadow abilities allowed him to move silently through the corridors. He found his way to Eamon's room and gently knocked on the window.
Eamon, who had been tossing and turning, heard the knock and moved to the window, surprised to see James's outside.
He quickly opened it, letting James slip inside.
"What are you doing here?" Eamon whispered, his heart racing.
"Well… I forgot to crown you. I bow down to the little prince." James placed the flower crown on Eamon's head and bowed down with an exaggerated flourish.
Eamon stifled a laugh, his heart warming at James' antics.
"You're crazy, you know that?"
James grinned, his eyes twinkling with mischief.
