Chereads / THE BROKEN RIFT / Chapter 7 - CHAPTER 7

Chapter 7 - CHAPTER 7

On the way back home, Eamon read through some reports regarding the sudden appearance of dungeons. The reports had piled up while he was unconscious and warded.

"Stop reading, young master," Evan said, concern lacing his voice.

"Why? We have too much work to do right now, and it keeps me busy." Eamon replied, his eyes still scanning the documents.

Evan sighed deeply.

"You need to rest, Eamon. Pushing yourself too hard won't help your recovery."

Eamon continued reading and taking notes until he came across a report that piqued his interest. It was about his uncle's guild, Vinci.

"Brother, have you read the report about a spy planted in Vinci guild?" Eamon asked, his brow furrowing.

"Yes, I have. They are currently under investigation. I heard that the government has started their move." Evan responded.

Eamon pondered for a moment, the wheels in his mind turning.

"Hmm. Let's stop at the guild for a moment. I want to understand the situation better."

Evan glanced at him, a mix of concern and understanding in his eyes.

"Alright, young master. But remember, you need to take it easy."

Eamon nodded, appreciating Evan's concern.

"Before that, may I know which guild you want to go to first?" Evan shyly asked, not wanting to overstep.

"Hahhh… Stop at Crystl Guild. We need some information first."

Crystl Guild was renowned for its expertise in information gathering and intelligence. If anyone had detailed reports about the sudden dungeon appearances and the situation at Vinci guild, it would be them.

Upon arrival at Crystl Guild, they were greeted by the guild's receptionist, who recognized Eamon immediately.

"Welcome back, young master Eamon. It's good to see you," she said warmly.

News of Eamon Drake's discharge had been circulating around the media within the awakened community. His recovery was a topic of interest, and many were relieved to hear of his improvement.

"Thank you, Clara. It's good to be back. I need to speak with the guild master. Can I?" Eamon replied, his tone reflecting the urgency of the matter.

"Of course. Please follow me." Clara said, leading them through the grand halls of the guild.

The building was a testament to the guild's importance, with walls adorned with maps, scrolls, and artifacts from various expeditions.

They arrived at a large, ornately decorated door, and Clara knocked gently before opening it. Inside, Guild Master Aric was seated behind a massive oak desk, surrounded by stacks of documents and maps.

The room was filled with the scent of old parchment and the faint hum of magical wards, protecting the valuable information within.

As they entered, a translucent system window appeared before Eamon's eyes, displaying detailed information about the guild master.

[SYSTEM WINDOW]

NAME: ARIC CRYSTL

AGE: 52

RANK: S

ABILITIES: SEER

[FUTURE INFORMATION BEEN LIMIT BY THE USER]

Eamon's eyes gleamed with curiosity and respect. It was rare to meet someone with the ability to see into the future, even if such information was limited.

Aric noticed Eamon's reaction and chuckled softly.

"Kids, don't you know about other people privacy?"

"I apologize, Master Aric. It's just that I'm curious about your abilities…" Eamon blushed slightly, his eyes meeting Aric's.

Aric waved a hand dismissively, a kind smile on his face.

"No harm done, but be careful. Sometimes curiosity kills a cat."

A chill ran down Eamon's spine. It was dangerous. Something seemed off with the guild master of Crystl. Warning signs flared up in Eamon's mind, urging him to be on guard around the man standing before him.

"So… what information do you want from me? It's not easy for a young master to meet a high-ranking guild master, isn't it? Just because you were born with an S rank doesn't mean you can do whatever you want. There must be a limit." Aric said, his tone carrying an edge of scrutiny.

Eamon took a deep breath, steadying himself.

"I understand, Master Aric. I'm here to gain a clearer understanding of the sudden dungeon appearances and the situation at Vinci Guild."

Aric's eyes narrowed slightly, evaluating Eamon's words. After a moment, he nodded and leaned back in his chair.

"Very well. The dungeon appearances have been increasing in frequency and seem to follow no discernible pattern. It's as if they're being triggered randomly, which is highly unusual."

Eamon leaned in, listening intently as Aric continued.

"As for Vinci Guild, our sources indicate that there is indeed a spy. The investigation is ongoing, but the government is actively involved."

Eamon's mind raced as he processed the information.

"This is more serious than I thought. What can we do to assist in the investigation?"

Aric looked thoughtful for a moment.

"Nothing actually but your expertise and connections could be invaluable. We need to identify the spy and understand their motives. Any information you can gather would be a great help."

As they left Crystl Guild, Eamon couldn't help but feel the weight of the responsibility on his shoulders. There was much work to be done. Evan glanced at Eamon, concern etched on his face.

"Young master, do you think it's wise to get involved so soon after your discharge?" Evan asked, his voice filled with worry.

"Evan, this is important. If we don't address this now, the consequences could be dire." Eamon replied firmly, his eyes reflecting his determination.

The awakened community was still solidifying its position in the world. Twelve years ago, awakened people were hunted and oppressed, but now the tables had turned.

The awakened had become hunters, venturing into the dungeons to protect humanity. The government had been forced to step back and raise the white flag after a massive dungeon break nine years ago. Only the hunters had been able to save them.

But now, there were whispers of a government conspiracy to dismantle the system. Was there some new technology they were developing to stand by and take over the hunters guild? Eamon's thoughts raced as he considered the implications.

"I'm afraid we're not just up against monsters to save humanity, but our own kind as well…" Eamon murmured, a deep sense of foreboding settling over him.
