Chapter 10 - Messiah Frog: Chapter 10

---

The distant growl of motorcycle engines pierced through the quiet hum of Night City. The sound grew louder, closer, like a pack of wolves hunting their prey.

Lucy's sharp gaze swept toward the sound as her expression turned grim. "They're coming. We need to move. Now."

Thalia's golden eyes narrowed, scanning the street ahead. He wasn't one to panic, but the tension in the air was suffocating.

Before he could speak, Lucy grabbed his wrist. "Come on!" she hissed, pulling him into a full sprint.

The two bolted through the maze of neon-drenched streets, their footsteps echoing off the cold pavement. Behind them, furious shouting erupted.

---

[5 Minutes Earlier]

Seth, the scavenger scout, stood trembling in front of Oris. His voice was shaky as he reported, "Boss, I... I lost the target. They got away."

Oris, a hulking figure with mechanical arms and a cybernetic spine, leaned back in his chair. His glowing red eyes locked onto Seth like a predator sizing up its prey.

"You lost them?" Oris repeated slowly, his voice dripping with venom.

"I-I tried my best! But they—"

Before Seth could finish, Oris shot up from his seat, slamming a fist through the table. The reinforced steel cracked under his strength.

"Your best wasn't enough," Oris growled, his voice a low rumble.

"Boss, I'll fix it! I promise—"

BANG.

The gunshot echoed in the small room. Seth crumpled to the floor, blood pooling beneath him.

"Clean this up," Oris barked at his henchmen, who watched in silence. "And mount up. I'm finishing this myself."

Back to the Present

"Boss! Two people are making a run for it!" shouted one of his henchmen, his grotesque face enhanced with multiple spider-like prosthetic eyes glowing faintly.

Oris turned, his cybernetic limbs creaking ominously. "Which direction?"

The lookout extended a skeletal finger, pointing toward the street. "That way!"

Oris spat on Seth's corpse and snarled. "Mount up! I want their heads on my dashboard!"

With a deafening roar, scavengers revved their bikes and stormed onto the street, tearing through bystanders without hesitation.

---

Lucy led thaila toward a gleaming luxury car parked nearby. "Can you drive?" she asked sharply, her voice betraying a hint of urgency.

"A little… not much," Thalia admitted, his brow furrowed.

"It's enough." Lucy's cybernetic eyes flickered with red as she cracked the car's lock with ease. "Get in!"

Thaila slid into the driver's seat, gripping the wheel tightly as Lucy settled into the passenger side, her fingers dancing across the dashboard. "I need a few seconds to override the system. Once it's cracked, hit the gas."

Behind them, the scavengers closed in. Engines roared louder, and headlights bathed the streets in chaos.

"Boss, they're in that car!" the lookout prosthetic user shouted.

"Ram it!" Oris ordered, firing his shotgun into the air for intimidation.

The thud of motorcycles smashing into the car's rear startled Thaila, his fingers tightening on the wheel. His eyes darted toward Lucy. "They're already here!"

"Just hold on," Lucy snapped, focusing on the cracking process. "Don't lose your nerve!"

---

The car rocked violently as two scavengers leapt onto the trunk, their fists hammering against the vehicle. Thaila mind raced. His grip on the wheel was clammy, and his breath hitched.

This wasn't a movie. There were no guarantees of survival. Yet, deep within, something clicked. His caution didn't mean hesitation—it meant precision.

The faint hum of magnetism stirred within him. He exhaled, focusing on the scattered metal around them.

Suddenly, with a sharp gesture of his hand, Thaila manipulated a discarded steel rod lying near the car. It shot upward like a spear, piercing the tires of one of the scavenger bikes. The vehicle spun out of control, crashing into another rider and sending them both sprawling onto the asphalt.

Lucy glanced at him briefly, her eyes widening. "Not bad."

Thaila didn't respond, his golden eyes locked on the rearview mirror. The two scavengers clinging to the trunk were smashing the back window with their weapons.

He extended his hand subtly, feeling the flow of magnetism around the car. A slight adjustment—and the loose screws on the trunk hinges popped free.

The trunk flew open, sending the scavengers tumbling off the car and onto the pavement with a sickening crunch.

"System's cracked!" Lucy shouted.

Without hesitation, Thalia slammed the accelerator.

---

The luxury car surged forward, weaving through the crowded streets of Night City. Neon lights streaked past, but the scavengers weren't far behind. Their bikes screamed as they dodged pedestrians and obstacles, closing the gap.

"Faster, Thaila!" Lucy urged, her voice sharp.

"Working on it," he muttered, sweat beading on his brow.

As the scavengers drew closer, Oris took aim with his shotgun, firing at the car's tires.

Thaila reacted instinctively, manipulating the scattered metal debris on the road. A cluster of nails and shards of steel formed a crude barrier, shredding the tires of another pursuing bike. The rider lost control, skidding into a lamppost with a deafening crash.

But Oris wasn't deterred. He raised his shotgun again, this time aiming directly at the car's rear window.

Qin flicked his wrist, directing a loose manhole cover from the street into the bike's path. Oris barely swerved in time, cursing under his breath.

"You're pissing me off, kid!" Oris bellowed, his voice distorted by his cybernetic enhancements.

Thaila jaw tightened. "Lucy, how much farther until we lose them?"

"I'm working on that!" she snapped, hacking into the city's traffic grid to create a diversion.

Ahead, the lights at a major intersection suddenly turned green in every direction, throwing traffic into chaos. Vehicles screeched to a halt as the luxury car darted through the gaps, narrowly avoiding collisions.

The scavengers weren't so lucky. Two bikes collided head-on with a delivery truck, their riders sent flying.

Oris growled, his rage boiling over. He twisted his bike's accelerator, determined to close the distance.

---

As the chase continued, Thaila spotted an unfinished overpass ahead, its steel framework exposed like a skeleton. A plan formed in his mind.

"Lucy, hold on."

"What are you—"

Before she could finish, Qin yanked the steering wheel, guiding the car onto the ramp leading to the overpass. The scaffolding groaned under the weight of the vehicle as it sped across the uneven surface.

Oris followed, his bike roaring as he navigated the narrow path.

Qin extended his hand again, focusing on the magnetic flow around him. The steel beams supporting the overpass trembled slightly, loosening under his influence.

Just as Oris reached the middle of the overpass, Qin clenched his fist. The beams snapped free, and the structure collapsed in a cacophony of metal and concrete.

Oris' bike skidded to a halt, but it was too late. The ground gave way beneath him, and he plunged into the rubble below.
