Chapter 43 - Chapter 43: The Elven Tycoon

"Everyone, the bandits have retreated. Who will settle the payment?" Corvinus asked as he led the wolf cavalry to the merchant caravan, looking at the five elves.

Only a dozen or so guards remained from the caravan's escort, and most of them were injured. Despite this, they still cautiously kept their guard up against Corvinus and his men.

"Thank you, my lord, for rescuing us!" the elven noble said, approaching Corvinus from a short distance with four elven guards around him and bowing slightly.

"No need to thank me. I'm just doing my job for the money," Corvinus replied with a smile.

He had effortlessly earned a thousand gold coins, and not only that, he had easily subdued the bandits. He felt like he must have slept with Lady Luck herself last night.

The elven noble nodded, seeming to think that the leading werewolf probably wasn't a bandit.

Although Corvinus had revealed that he was the leader of a werewolf tribe, in the wilderness, no one knew anyone else, and some words couldn't be easily trusted.

"Do you have a spatial ring?" the elven noble hesitated for a moment before asking.

A thousand gold coins weighed dozens of pounds. Without a spatial ring, it would be very inconvenient.

"It's fine. Just put it on the ground," Corvinus said, nodding after a brief moment of surprise.

Without hesitation, the elven noble piled up a thousand glittering gold coins on the ground. Not only were the wolf cavalry stunned, but Corvinus himself was momentarily dazed.

After all, since coming to this world, no, even including his previous life, this was the first time he had seen so many gold coins.

A single gold coin was worth about ten thousand dollars!

This meant that a thousand coins were worth ten million!

The elven noble and the other elven guards, sensing Corvinus's reaction, felt much more at ease.

It seemed that the origin of this wolf cavalry wasn't too significant.

This was also the reason they felt more relieved. Only the poor would be driven by money. If they truly had no need for it, they would be a ticking time bomb.

Corvinus also realized he had acted a bit out of place. After all, he was a穿越者(穿越者)and a person with a system. How could he act like a country bumpkin, so stunned by a thousand gold coins?

Regaining his composure, Corvinus waved his hand over the pile of gold coins, and they vanished instantly.

Tyton and Cadia had heard of spatial rings, but they never expected that Corvinus would actually possess such a divine artifact.

Of course, Corvinus didn't have a spatial ring, and he didn't need one, because the system itself came with a storage facility.

After Corvinus put away the gold coins, he glanced at the elven noble and the other four elves.

Elves, one of the representatives of the long-lived races, even an ordinary elf with only first-tier strength could live for over a thousand years.

Among humanoid races, elves were truly the living kings of longevity.

Although most of the elves' faces were hidden under their helmets, Corvinus could still sense their beauty through their exposed foreheads and cheeks. The elves' reputation for beauty was indeed well-deserved.

"Tyton, let's go!" Corvinus said.

"Yes, sir!"

The wolf cavalry immediately turned around, preparing to head to the bandits' lair.

Earlier, Corvinus had arranged for the bandits to return to their hideout. His plan was for eighty-four jackalmen to take the map he provided and his token, and head to the Silver Mane Tribe on their own.

As for the thirty-four boar men, they would follow Corvinus to the Casros Canyon.

Of course, there was a second option for the jackalmen: to wait here for his return. However, these jackalmen were not fools. They chose to go to the Silver Mane Tribe on their own. After all, if Corvinus abandoned them, they would be left with no choice.

All the jackalmen believed this was a high possibility. They had little combat strength, and many tribes were unwilling to take them in. Moreover, their den was running out of food. If they waited for half a month, they would end up as corpses.

"Please wait, my lord!" Seeing that Corvinus and his men were about to leave, the elven noble glanced around and called out to them.

"Is there anything else?" Corvinus turned back to look at the elven noble.

Although the elf was a noble, Corvinus had no intention of befriending him. After all, their strength was far inferior to his.

Having made a profit, it was best to leave while the going was good.

Moreover, elves were arrogant. They were only polite now because they needed help.

Besides, with a thousand gold coins, they could head straight to Casros Canyon. With the technology in the system, they might be able to pull off something interesting.

If not, they could always return to the tribe with the thousand gold coins. A thousand gold coins would cover the Silver Mane Tribe's monthly food expenses.

"My lord, if you are willing to escort us to Casros Canyon, I am willing to offer another thousand gold coins as payment," the elven noble said softly.

Although the bandit threat had been eliminated and the distance to Casros Canyon was only a few dozen miles, his orc guards were either injured or incapacitated. Four of his fellow elves were severely wounded, and his own magic had been completely drained. Otherwise, they wouldn't have been pushed to such a desperate situation by a small bandit gang.

He didn't often travel this route, but he knew that the closer they got to Casros Canyon, the more bandit scouts there were. With their current personnel configuration, any bandit gang would target them.

Upon hearing this, Corvinus did not agree immediately.

Although it was another thousand gold coins, the risks were self-evident.

The caravan was in a state of disarray, and with them, their progress would inevitably slow down.

His original plan was to reach Casros Canyon before nightfall, because the dangers increased exponentially in the dark.

Throughout their journey, Corvinus couldn't believe that the bandits hadn't been keeping tabs on them.

"Two thousand gold coins, I am willing to pay two thousand gold coins as payment!" the elven noble quickly raised the price, seeing Corvinus's hesitation.

After all, if they missed Corvinus and his men, all they would find in this wilderness were bandits.

"Deal, but the payment first," Corvinus said.

Two thousand gold coins—although they were a burden, he had to compromise in the face of such wealth.

Payment first?

The elven noble hesitated for a moment, but with a flick of his hand, a pile of gold coins twice as large as before appeared. However, just as quickly as it appeared, Corvinus put it away.

In that instant, Tyton, Cadia, and the others all took note. This was what two thousand gold coins looked like.

Were merchants in the outside world all this wealthy?

"Tyton, Cadia, take your men and bandage those wounded immediately," Corvinus said, pointing to the caravan guards.

These guards were werewolves, and there were also a few wolf cavalrymen. However, among the corpses, he also saw members of other races, including the body of a minotaur, clad in plate armor. Just the corpse itself was a massive figure.

Corvinus inwardly lamented the loss.

Minotaurs were undoubtedly one of the top five strongest orc races in terms of combat strength.

Corvinus had no intention of engaging in deep conversation with the elven noble. After all, they were strangers. He saw no need to gossip about who the other person was.

As long as they were paid, they were the boss!

As Cadia and Tyton bandaged the wounded and organized the troops in preparation for departure, Gava, the boar man, ran over with his group of boar men.

Upon asking, Corvinus found out that the guy was actually afraid he would run away.
