A soft hiss filled the kitchen as oil heated in the pan, shimmering under the glow of the overhead light. Sunny stood at the counter, a spatula in one hand and a bowl of cold rice in the other. His sharp eyes flicked between ingredients as his mind recalled the teachings that the Song Sisters had drilled into him.

Chopped vegetables, diced meat, and a few seasonings he'd measured with perfect precision. Flicking his wrist, he tossed the meat first, letting it sizzle and brown before adding the vegetables. The scent of garlic and onion filled the air, mixing with the rich aroma of the cooking meat.

He moved with perfect ease, nudging everything around with the spatula ensuring not a single burn occurred. Cold rice followed next, colliding with the pan with a soft crackle. Sunny worked quickly, breaking up the clumps with smooth and efficient motions. His mind barely registered the process—muscle memory took over, guiding his hands without thought.

Cooking was an art; one he had managed to ingrain into his body over the passing months. Unlike combat, this was not an art which had a limit to it's growth. There was no 'perfect' meal and yet Sunny continued to chase after the pipe dream with a smile on his face.

Surprisingly, he felt happy. He knew 'Sunny' too would be happy watching such a process. He didn't need anyone else right now, only him and his ingredients were needed as the sound of the flame under his pan soothed his damaged soul as he continued moving.

Soy sauce drizzled over the rice, darkening it slightly as he stirred. The sound of grains scraping against the pan was oddly satisfying, almost rhythmic. A small smirk played on his lips as he gave the pan a final shake before turning off the heat.

He had cooked enough food for forty people, yet he didn't plan on serving it to that many people. Slowly making his exit from the kitchen, three plates in hand, he was greeted by the blue laced silver hair of Moonveil. "Jessica, has my cooking improved?"

Sunny's soft voice exuded through the room as he moved to his living room, placing a plate in front of her as she stared at it with wide eyes. "Yes. But don't call me Jessica in front of her." Her glare towards the now silent Eubin increased as the other woman smiled happily at her.

"You already know my name though." Eubin mock whined, both women being silenced as the aroma of Sunny's cooking collided with their nostrils. 'This is heavenly.' Eubin thought to herself as Sunny sat down at the head of the table with a small smile gracing his features.

Over the months he had managed to teach himself how to smile once more, initially being entirely fake manipulations of muscle allowing him to resemble those who felt genuine joy like an imposter. Now, he found himself having a few reasons to smile.

One of them being cooking.

He didn't need to fight often despite keeping up with his training. In fact, his eighteenth birthday was coming up soon meaning his body would finally reach it's maximum potential. Most missions of lacking importance he simply refused, and the ones he needed to do were finished within hours.

Thus, Jessica had mockingly dubbed him the name. "Song's ultimate problem solver."

Appearance wise, he had changed quite a bit too. His hair had grown much longer, falling beneath his shoulders and needing to be tied up as he moved around the house. His once pale white hair now began having darker hues as new, onyx hair took the place of old hairs.

But generally, he was quite happy. As he ate, he appreciated the relationships he had built with the Song sisters. All of them had revealed their real names with him as they shared stories and battles with one another on multiple occasions. Despite 'Sunny's' memories not feeling like his own, he slowly found more of a connection building itself between his current self and 'Sunny.'

Despite this, he was determined to carve out his own identity.

Eating slowly, Sunny watched Lonesome Howl or Clara made her way into his kitchen, returning with a large bowl of rice as she sat down next to Eubin, not even sparing her sisters a passing glance as she began devouring her food. Her antics always a smile to Sunny's face, of all of them, he was certain he was fond of her.

"Sunny?" Jessica called, pulling him from his thoughts as he swallowed his food, placing a hand on the table as he rested his chin on it and directed his attention towards her, the small smile still tugging his lips. Blushing furiously, she quickly broke eye contact with him before taking a deep breathe in.

'He's doing this on purpose. He has to be.' She thought to herself as she suppressed the blush before clearing her throat, putting her serious voice on. "I know I've told you before, but we'll be going to the summit together along with Eubin. Are you sure you're able to tolerate Anvil's presence and not kill him immediately?"

Sunny stared at her impassively for a moment, his hand remaining on his chin as he appeared to be contemplating. "I'll be able to restrain myself... probably. Maybe not if Morgan is there, but otherwise I'll be fine. I'm just thinking of who will replace him once he's dead, and what to do with immortal flames money."

At this, all the heads in the room snapped in his direction as shared expressions of shock spread around the room. "What do you mean 'with immortal flames money'? How did you even get that?" Clara asked with shock as Sunny ran a hand through his hair.

"I killed them, and they asked me to take care of their daughter. I was thinking of sending all the money to her, but it could also be used for replacing Anvil once he's dead. I'd have to ask Nephis."

The manner in which he half heartedly spoke of Nephis threw a wrench in Eubin's soul that went unseen as Jessica rapidly swallowed the next spoonful of fried rice, letting loose a satisfied hum before swallowing and turning to Sunny. "You could give it to mother, I'm sure she'd use it excellently. Or... you could spend it on us."

As she said it, she shared a sly smile with her three sisters as Sunny burst out into a laugh. The sound of his laughter brought warm smiles onto the faces of all present as Sunny wiped a lone tear from his eye. "Ki Song is rich enough, and as for you...all of you. If I treat you to something nice, it'll be with my own money."

"I'll hold you to that Sunny, I always knew you couldn't resist my beauty forever." Eubin teased as Sunny offered her a warm smile in response. The woman had helped him with his traumatic responses, although she hadn't fully been able to supress his inclination to harm himself when left alone for large amounts of time and his supreme aversion of contact with women, they were making progress.

With her help, as well as the combined support of all the sisters, Sunny felt it for the first time in a while.

What it was like to have a family.

--

Nephis shot forward, her foot slamming against the ground as she closed the distance in a heartbeat. Her muscles coiled then snapped like a whip—she threw a sharp jab at Orion's chin, her movements efficient and crisp.

Shifting his weight, he watched the punch graze past his jaw. His eyes were steady, his stance fluid and infinitely malleable as he countered immediately. A brutal cross aimed directly at her sternum blitzed through the air as Nephis twisted, absorbing the impact along her forearm.

And yet, the sheer force behind it sent shock cascading through her body. "Just because you know where I'm going doesn't mean you will be able to create the most efficient counter. Think harder, think smarter, put yourself in my shoes more." Orion called as he watched Nephis close in on him once more.

Gritting her teeth, she stepped in instead of retreating. Ducking low and wrapping her arms around his waist. With a sharp pivot of her hips, she attempted to execute a throw and yet Orion barely budged. "I've spent enough time around Luster and Sunless to know getting thrown sucks. Especially for a king like me."

Before she could react, his knee drove itself into her ribs, the impact rattling her insides. Air attempted to escape her lungs in a harsh gasp, but she didn't let go for a moment. Shifting her grip, she swung her waist backward to pull him off balance.

Smirking, Orion clamped onto her shoulders with terrifying strength, lifting her off the floor with one arm as she remained suspended in the air. "I wonder, are you this rough with Sunless?" Orion asked. Meanwhile, Nephis didn't even have the opportunity to be embarrassed as she felt his fingers grabbing her collarbone directly.

A second later, she slammed into the earth, the breathe forced from her chest. Pain flared through her back as she rolled the instant, she landed to avoid the stomp that would have crushed her ribs. Springing to her feet, she surged forward with a flurry of attacks. Each one precise and honed by relentless training.

And yet, Orion was weaving through them all with a proud smile on his face as he caught her final blow. "I hope you know, my ability to copy isn't solely limited to martial arts. I know how you're using your eyes, and I can tell you it's painfully inefficient."

Pausing, Orion swept her legs, sitting her on the floor before smiling at her. "I now deem you on par a king of a region. Although, Noctis would kill you and I'm quite sure Solvane could too. I'm sure you could defeat Sevirax if you put your mind to it."

Nephis could only sigh in sadness that she had still been so easily overwhelmed as Orion offered a hand to pull her to her feet. She wasn't sure what type of training he had to have done to become as strong as he was, he had improved in gigantic proportions comparing to when she first met him yet never spoke about it.

"Tomorrow is the day." She whispered to herself as she watched Orion pull a weapon from god knows where and begin sparring with Cassie.

Tomorrow was the day she'd see Sunny again.
