Chapter 18 - Chapter 17: Arrival to Nacrene City

The bustling streets of Nacrene City were alive with energy as Mira strolled through the paths leading to the heart of the city. Trainers and locals moved purposefully, their conversations blending with the sounds of chirping Pidove and the distant hum of machinery from the industrial district. Mira adjusted her bag and glanced at the towering museum that dominated the city's skyline.

Her excitement bubbled over as she thought about the upcoming botanical research competition. Before heading to the museum to finalize her registration, Mira decided to explore the city. The vibrant architecture, with its blend of historic stone buildings and modern structures, fascinated her. On her way, she spotted a cozy house to the right of the Pokémon Center. Its exterior was a picturesque mix of old-world charm and personal touches. Vibrant pots of blooming flowers lined the cobblestone path leading to the door, their petals swaying gently in the breeze. The wooden shutters were painted a cheerful sky blue, and a small wind chime hung by the entrance, tinkling softly with each gust of wind. The inviting scent of herbs, growing in the window boxes, mingled with the faint aroma of freshly watered soil, hinting at the owner's love for gardening.

Curiosity piqued, Mira knocked gently before stepping inside. The interior smelled faintly of lavender, and a kind-looking elderly woman greeted her warmly.

"Welcome, dear. You must be a trainer. Let me see your Pokémon," the woman said, adjusting her glasses. Mira released Snivy, Scout excitedly stepped up and Petilil hopped down from her shoulder, all of whom cheerfully chirped.

The woman bent down to inspect them, her smile growing. "What lovely companions you have! Did you know you can measure how close you are with your Pokémon? Here, let me show you." She gestured for Mira to sit beside her at a small wooden table.

As the woman gently held Petilil's leaves and observed Snivy's calm demeanor while Scout ran in little circles, she explained, "The bond between a trainer and their Pokémon is critical for their growth and evolution. When you treat them with love and respect, they'll thrive. You and your Pokémon seem to share a strong connection."

Mira beamed at the compliment. "Thank you! I've always tried to make sure they feel cared for and supported."

The woman nodded. "It shows. And if you ever trade a Pokémon, remember that the bond might shift, but it's possible to build trust again. Some Pokémon even evolve through trading, like Machoke or Haunter. If you're ever curious, I can explain more about it."

Mira leaned forward eagerly. "I'd love to learn! How does that work?"

The woman explained the concept of trade evolutions, detailing the special circumstances that triggered these transformations. Mira listened intently, her mind racing with possibilities. She imagined what other Pokémon could benefit from trade. The thought of collaborating with other trainers to unlock such potential filled her with excitement. "This could open up so many opportunities," Mira thought, her curiosity piqued. She made a mental note to research more about trade-based evolutions, envisioning how such transformations might impact her journey and strengthen her bond with her Pokémon team.

"Thank you so much," Mira said as she stood to leave. "I've learned so much today."

"Take care, dear," the woman said, waving as Mira exited the house.

As Mira crossed the street, her eyes caught sight of another house to the left of the Pokémon Center. The cheerful laughter of children echoed from inside, blending with the faint cooing of Pidove. The exterior of the house was adorned with hand-painted flowerpots, and the scent of freshly baked bread wafted through the open windows. Intrigued, Mira stepped in and was greeted by the warm hum of a cozy home. A young woman, dressed in a simple apron, was tending to a cluster of lively Pidove perched on the windowsill, their feathers glinting in the sunlight.

"Oh, hello there," the woman said, brushing her hands on her apron. "You're a trainer, aren't you?"

Mira nodded. "That's right. My name's Mira. I'm exploring Nacrene City before a competition."

The woman's face lit up. "That's wonderful! A trainer with a Snivy, I see. Grass-types are such elegant and resilient Pokémon." She reached into a basket by her side and pulled out a small green seed. "This is a Miracle Seed. It boosts the power of Grass-type moves. I think it would be perfect for your Snivy."

Mira accepted the gift with wide eyes. "Thank you so much! This will be a huge help."

The woman chuckled. "It's my pleasure. Grass Pokémon deserve every advantage they can get. Good luck!"

"This is for you," Mira said, holding the seed out. Snivy inspected it, then gave a satisfied nod.

Feeling invigorated by her discoveries, Mira made her way to the Nacrene Museum. The grand entrance loomed before her, its massive oak doors flanked by intricate carvings of ancient Pokémon. Inside, the lobby buzzed with trainers and researchers finalizing their entries for the competition. A sign read, "Nacrene City Botanical Exhibition and Competition." Mira paused for a moment, taking in the significance of the moment. This museum wasn't just a venue; it was a symbol of the harmony between history, science, and creativity. To present her work here felt like an incredible opportunity to connect her love for nature with the broader Pokémon community.

Gathering her thoughts, she headed toward the registration desk, where a young assistant greeted her with a clipboard. "Welcome! Are you here to register for the botanical research competition?"

"Yes," Mira said confidently. "My name is Mira Rosemary."

The assistant checked her name off the list and handed her a participant badge. "Here you go. The competition begins tomorrow morning. Make sure to arrive early for setup. Good luck!"

The staff member handed her a registration form and explained the rules: participants would present research, creative projects, or demonstrations related to plants and Pokémon. Each presentation would be limited to ten minutes, and participants were encouraged to use visuals or live demonstrations to support their work. Mira filled out the form, her excitement growing as she imagined how her notes and sketches could come to life within these constraints.

As she handed back the form, a figure in a crisp lab coat walked by. The staff member's demeanor shifted to one of respect, and several visitors nodded in acknowledgment of the individual. Mira watched curiously but decided not to pry, focusing instead on her plans for the competition.

Mira took a deep breath and stepped back into the city. The sun was beginning to set, casting a warm golden glow over Nacrene's rooftops

"Alright, team," she said, looking at her companions. "We've got everything we need. Let's rest up and get ready to give it our all tomorrow."

Snivy, Petilil, and Scout chirped in agreement, their spirits high as they followed Mira to the Pokémon Center for the night.

She made her way to the Pokémon Center, where the friendly Nurse Joy greeted her. "Welcome to Nacrene City! How can I help you today?"

"I'd like to check in and pick up a package," Mira said, introducing herself and showing her Pokédex as identification.

Joy nodded and retrieved a neatly wrapped box from behind the counter. Mira recognized her mother's careful handwriting and felt a wave of gratitude. As she carefully unwrapped the package, she couldn't help but smile, thinking about how much her parents supported her journey. Inside was a sleek, brand-new C-Gear. She held it up, her fingers tracing its smooth surface, and whispered softly, "Thank you, Mom and Dad."

"Finally," Mira said, holding it up. She quickly set it up, adding her accounts and linking her Pokédex. Then, keeping her promise, she called her parents using the Xtransceiver.

Her mother's face lit up the screen. "Mira! Did you get the C-Gear?"

"I did. Thank you so much, Mom and Dad. It's perfect," Mira said. "I'm in Nacrene City now and planning to join the botanical research competition."

Her father chimed in. "That's wonderful, sweetheart. We're so proud of you."

"Just remember to stay critical," her mother added. "Not everyone is trustworthy."

"I will," Mira promised. "I'll call again soon."
