Chapter 1 - Prologue

I heard the footsteps come down the hall before the door even opened. "Come in." I said paying no attention to anything except my thoughts. "Sir-"

"Get on with it Alex."

"The parties returned from the expedition. News along with them. Im not sure you'll like what you see though."

I was already out the door when he finished it. I had more important things to check on now. I quietly took some shallow breaths as I walked. The cold stone floor underneath me felt foreign now. Despite the years I'd spent inhabiting it. I looked to the right, the crenels providing gaps for me to see through, and U regret looking almost immediately. There in the courtyard, laying on the dirt, was the only remaining soldier sent out. Lucy. I took a gasp, from what im not sure but either way it spoke wonders of how I truly felt. I picked up the speed, running down the exit, and when I finally made it out I ignored the light that I wasent used too seing. I quickly ran down the path and made it down. The voices of everyone gathering nearby turned silent. "H-hey Jackson." Lucy said, struggling to manage even that. "Shut up. Just shut up. Preserve your battery." *I dashed forward and knelt onto the ground before assessing the situation. Her head was clean in half. Chest ripped wide open and her legs were completely missing. "Holy shit..." I gasped, unable to even fathom how she made it back. "How did you-"

"You'd be surprised what the rockets could do Jackson." She said, shutting me up instantly. The smile on her face was apparent yet I could see the strain she was under. "Power down Lucy." I said already digging my hands under her. "Im too far gone. Theres no point."

"You don't get to make that decision."

"Even though thats true, we both know you'll let me. Don't we?" I hated that line, because I knew she was right.

"Im glad I could be of assistance." And as I saw the LEDS in her eyes begin to dim and then darken altogether I knew she was gone. The one thing I loved in this life, the thing that kept me going. Was also the only thing to keep everyone going. "I'll repair you Lucy-" *I said through tears. "Every part, every system." The memory disc felt cold in my hands when I ripped it out of her. Broken just like the rest of her, and broken, just like me.
