Chapter 9 - CHAPTER 9

Emma finished writing her second terms on the contract. She wanted Zane to give her the opportunity to pay back the money her stepfather borrowed.

She had planned to expand her business in the coming month, so she would be receiving a good amount from there on. With that she believes she would be able to pay the debts earlier than Zane calculated.

Emma thought of adding another term to the contract but she couldn't think of anything else. This was all she wanted. She didn't want Zane to forcefully sleep with her, and she wanted to have a chance in paying back the debts. She could've thought of something else, but she feared Zane might get angry and end up tearing the papers, after all, he didn't have to treat her this way, she was more like his asset.

Emma went to Zane's room and knocked at the door.

She knocked twice before Zane opened the door, his expression was deadpan as he looked directly into Emma's eyes.

"What do you want?"

Emma was frozen by Zane's deadly glare for a while before she managed to show him the contract documents.

"I have added my own terms to it. It's just two of them."

Zane continued to stare at Emma for a while before he collected the documents. He immediately opened it to see the second term Emma added, perhaps she was demanding a huge amount of money if he was to divorce her, but that wouldn't work because he had already written that Emma would leave without a penny in her pocket.

Zane checked the second term Emma added and his eyebrows moved a little. He was surprised that this woman still wanted to pay the debt, after he told her that it would take her appropriately thirty years to pay it.

Not only did Emma want to pay the debts, she demands that she should be allowed to leave once she does pay the debts. Imagine staying with him for thirty years, making her fifty-four years old or fifty-five years old, yet she was still thinking of leaving.

Zane could only describe this as illiteracy. Who would want to leave a handsome man like him in the first place.

This girl probably hit her head on a rock on her way here.

Emma was worried sick as she stared at Zane, hoping that he wouldn't change his mind on the contract of a thing. Just then Zane closed the document.

"Go get dressed, we are making this official today."

He looked at Emma.

"We are getting our marriage certificate this morning, and I will make this contract an official one as well."

Emma felt like a heavy weight was lifted from her shoulders, finally she would be able to pay the debts and not worried that she would be devoured like snacks by some hungry men.

"Okay. I....."

Before Emma could finish her words, Zane slammed the door locked. That didn't bother Emma for a second as she quickly headed to her room to get dressed.

She got dressed up in less than thirty minutes and waited in the living room for Zane. The clothes she was putting on was an oversized one, all the clothes in her wardrobe were oversized ones, she wondered if Zane did the shopping for another woman or it had nothing to do with a woman.

Zane came out after an hour. He was dressed in a blue blazer suit, with blue pants as well. He combed his hair to the back, causing it to cover his neck and exposing his forehead.

Looking at Zane up close again, Emma could tell Zane spends a lot on his body, keeping this physique, not having any visible scars was a surprise given the kind of business Zane was into.

One could mistake Zane as a rich tycoon with his outfit, not knowing he was just some head of a local thug.

Zane glanced at Emma twice before heading to the door.

"I will take you out shopping tomorrow. You need to put on good clothes if you ever want to go out with me."

Zane left the living room with those few words. Emma frowned a little as she followed him from behind. She wasn't happy that Zane left her behind like she was nobody to him.

She wondered why she was expecting Zane to be romantic towards her, they barely know each other and he was a ruthless gang boss, why would she want that kind of person to be romantic towards her.

Emma and Zane both came out of the building at the same time. Zane had instructed Sir Conner to take away all his luxury cars and to transfer all the maids in the house to his other houses.

He didn't want Emma to know he was rich. He would test her to see if she was worthy enough to marry someone like him, if she was worthy enough he would shower her with all his family money, but if she isn't, then he would find a way to part ways with her.

The contract was to ensure Emma doesn't go around telling people about him, and to ensure she doesn't get to divorce him, until he makes the call. That was all the contract was all about for him.

Zane walked to the garage and only two cars were available, both cars were under the range of twenty thousand dollars to thirty thousand dollars. Quite expensive, but in Zane eyes they were trash! and these were the lowest he could go, otherwise he would be suffering himself in the process.

Emma couldn't help but look at the cars. She didn't know a gang boss could have such a wonderful life like this, not wonderful though, but it was slightly better than the average citizen. It shouldn't be like that given all Zane probably does was to beat people up.

"Let's hurry, I think I have an appointment later."

Zane said as he opened the door and entered the white color car among the two cars. Emma woke up to her senses and entered the car herself, no way Zane would open the car door for her.

She was noticing these little things because she always dreamt of her husband being a charming prince that would treat her like a goddess. Waking her up with breakfast in his hands, helping her put on her shoes, and even washing her in the bathroom.

Who would've thought her husband would turn out to be a local thug. Emma could only bear the pain inside, her stepfather had merely squashed her dreams with a single snap of his fingers.

It took only a few minutes for them to arrive at the city hall. They entered the building and they saw a line of people waiting to register their marriage certificate.

Emma wondered why a lot of people were here, was this how it normally looks on a regular day. She couldn't believe many people were getting married everyday.

Emma wanted to stay in the line quickly, fearing that some group of people might come to take their spot, but Zane held her hands.

"Wait."

Immediately he said the words, somebody came out of the room where the registration was taking place.

"Mr. Winston. There is an error in your information."

Zane let go of Emma's hands at that moment.

"Come with me."

He voiced out as he casually walked to the man. Just like that, they entered the registration room, got their marriage certificate and came out of the building.

Emma had never seen a smooth process like this before, they barely spent up to ten minutes in the registration room. It was as they were expecting Zane or Zane was some kind of special guest.

She had no idea how Zane pulled it off, perhaps the person that called them in at the beginning was part of Zane's gang.

Emma couldn't come up with a better way to explain their fast marriage process.

The scene cleared the way in Emma's head, and her heart started beating heavily. She was married now, officially married to a thug.

She didn't know whether to laugh or cry, given the dreams she had always had every night.

Zane didn't notice the sad look on Emma's face. His eyes were on the marriage certificate.

Emma Xavier, age 24. Zane Winston, age 26.

He couldn't believe a man like him just got married to a stranger.

His old man had successfully made him look like a fool.

"We should go home."

Zane said as he opened the car door for himself. Emma hurriedly voiced out stopping Zane from entering the car.

"I want to resume work in my store. Today."

Zane frowned a little when he heard that, he had no choice than to agree with Emma on resuming her business or whatever she does.

"Okay, I will take you there."

Zane wanted to open the car door again when his phone suddenly rang. Seeing the caller, Zane had to pick the call.

"Your honor...."

Emma heard the person voice out on the call. She couldn't get the follow up after that because Zane gave her a few steps.

Zane talked for five minutes before he ended the call himself.

He turned to face Emma.

"Sorry, I have to leave you here, but I will come pick you up."

He looked at his golden colored watch and continued.

"What time do you close your shop?"

Emma naturally didn't have a closing hour, but since Zane was asking she decided to say something.

"5pm."

She wouldn't have the freedom she used to have before, it would be wise to have a closing hour now so she doesn't get on Zane ugly side.

"Good. I will come pick you up at 5pm at the dot."

With that Zane left with his car. Emma was left standing outside the city hall. She wished she could ask Zane what came up or force him to take her to her store, but she couldn't. She dared not even ask him something like that.

Emma hailed a taxi and went to her shop which was just outside a popular university.

Emma deals with book sales, magazines, not the hot ones. She had a neighbor that sold those things and she sells out on a daily basis, but Emma was never driven by it.

These were university kids, they deserve to gain knowledge on how to survive this hell of a world, not to be consumed by pleasures and unvalued fantasies.

Sometimes she wished something bad would happen to her neighbor, but unfortunately nothing always happens. Her neighbor was expanding months after months.

She basically owned most of the stores here. one time, her neighbor asked her if she would sell her store.

Damn, Emma almost saw herself slamming the woman to the ground.

Emma was still having these thoughts when she suddenly stopped in her tracks.

Her heart missed a beat when she saw that her things were being thrown out of her store.

"What...."

"What is going on here!"

Emma yelled as she hurried her feet. She reached her store only to see Violet coming out from it with Raymond by her side.

Emma's expression darkened at once. Her blood instantly started to boil but she managed to control herself.

"What do you think you are doing, violet?"

She pointed at her things that were on the floor.

"Why are my things on the floor? Haven't you guys had enough already!"

Emma's anger was showing vividly on her face as she stared at Violet and Raymond.

Just then, some men came out of Emma store with more of Emma things. Violet walked up to the man closer to her. She collected the frame work the man was holding.

"My father helped you acquire this place. Did you forget that Emma."

Emma eyebrows pushed down to her eyes. Violet faced Emma and continued.

"Since you are no longer part of the family. This store doesn't belong to you anymore. It belongs to me now!"

With that, violet let go of the glass frame she was holding and it fell to the ground in a shattering manner.

The motion stunned Emma to the bone and Violet pointed at her with her finger.

"I am giving you two minutes to pack all your things Emma. Just two minutes, otherwise I will break all of them to pieces."
