Chapter 5 - Chapter 5

November's POV

A week later, we got the news that my dad won. I stepped in with the case whenever I could to help Stephen, but it wasn't enough; my dad had custody of me again.

The first thing my dad did was keep me from going on missions and school online and in person. The only thing I could do was train, but then he banned me from doing that too.

I knew my grandmother was trying to stop him from doing these things, but I guess my father and I have one thing in common, and that is that we are both stubborn and do what we think is right.

One day Pepper and Morgan Stark came to the training base to help the Avengers. I knew they were planning a war, but I didn't know that it was going to be that bad.

Morgan and I quickly became good friends, and she told me all of the drama from the Avengers. Both of us thought that it's ridiculous that I'm an Avenger and can't go to the meetings or train when Morgan wasn't an Avenger and did both of those things.

Both of us didn't want this life, though, of being born into a famous family and having to live up to our last names.

We understood the weight of expectations that came with our legacies, yet we craved the freedom to define ourselves beyond our family names. As we shared our dreams under the stars, it became clear that our friendship was a refuge from the pressures of our worlds.

Morgan was always treated as though she wasn't the heir to billions, like she was a normal kid before her dad died, like how Stephen treated me while he had custody of me. Maybe that's why the two of us got along so well.

Morgan and I were sitting on my bed laughing over a joke when she came up with an idea on how to get me out of the training base, even just for an hour or two.

"What if we can get Wanda to take us to that bakery you keep talking about?" Morgan said, looking up at me, knowing how much I wanted to get out of the training center.

When we asked my dad and Wanda if we could do that, they both agreed. So I, Morgan, and Wanda all set off for the bakery and some muffins.

Naomi's POV

I and Arlo were hanging out at the bakery when Nove, Wanda, and another girl walked in.

"Nine!" I yell excitedly as I run to give her a hug, "What are you doing here?"

"My dad said that I and Morgan, who's Tony's daughter, can go to the bakery if Wanda comes with us!" November responded smiling.

"That's great!" I said, "Hi, I'm Naomi Starlight; I'm November's friend from when I lived here," I said, reaching my hand out for Morgan to shake.

"Morgan Stark," Morgan said, shaking my hand.

"Come sit with me and Arlo," I said, pulling them over to mine and Arlo's table.

"Arlo I didn't know you worked here!" November said excitedly when she got to the table.

"Yeah, I wasn't sure if you remembered me, which is why I never said anything," Arlo said, giving Nove a hug.

"Oh Morgan, this is Arlo Jackson; he's Naomi's childhood best friend," November said.

"Pleased to meet you," Morgan said, shaking his hand.

We all sat at the table and started talking.

"How come you're in the city, Morgan?" I asked.

"Just stuff with the Avengers," she said.

"How come you're still in New York?" Nove asked me

"Hannah insisted that I stay with them for a little bit," I responded.

"Wait, you guys," Arlo said with a smirk growing on his face.

"What?" I asked.

"Dr. Strange has a very strange last name," he said, and we all started laughing.

"And I roger everything I hear," said Nove, causing us all to start laughing again.

"I can iron anything," Morgan said, making us laugh even harder if that was passable.

"I can make anyone be a shining star," I said, and we couldn't stop laughing.

"I am a son of a Jack," Arlo said, causing Nove to spit out her drink.

"My blood is so super that it can roger anything," Nove said, causing Arlo to spill his drink.

"My dad wasn't Tony Stark; he was Iron Man," Morgan said, making us all have another wave of laughter.

"Vision had the best vision," Arlo said, causing me to choke on my muffin.

After a while, Morgan and Nove had to go back to the training base, but we all exchanged numbers and created a group chat called "Were the Fur Real Group.".

As everyone was leaving, Arlo said, "We should totes do this again." and everyone agreed.

I watched Nove as she left the bakery with Wanda and Morgan behind her.

"She's so beautiful," I said, looking over at Arlo.

"You should tell her," he said, smiling.

"No, no, no, that could ruin our friendship," I said, shoving him.

"Oww," he said jokingly.

"How are you and Jeff doing?" I asked.

"Good. He's supposed to come over tonight if you want to meet him," Arlo said.

"I might as well stay one more night," I said, giving in to one of my closest friends.

"Yay!" he said excitedly as he ran to hug me. "My mom and Jeff will be so excited; you know she's always wanted a daughter too, plus Jeff has been wanting to meet you for a while now."

"Yeah," I said, smiling, happy that I didn't have to go back home yet.

Jeff's POV

"Bye. Mrs. Litchen," I called as I walked out the doors of the orphanage.

"Bye dear, be safe," the elderly woman called back.

"I will," I responded as I got into my car.

As I was driving, I could feel my nerves start to bubble up due to the fact I was meeting my boyfriend's best friend.

I sighed, knowing what can happen when I start to get nervous.

As I pulled into the driveway, I took a deep breath and said a small prayer hoping that everything would be alright.

I hesitated before knocking on the door to the house.

"Jeff!" Arlo almost yelled as soon as he opened the door. He engulfed me in a hug that seemed as though it was going to squeeze all of the air out of my body.

"Come in, come in," Arlo said, pulling me inside.

"Hello, Jeff," Ms. Jackson said, pulling me into another hug.

"How have you been?" she asked me.

"Good, there's been some new kids in the orphanage that I've been helping out," I say, smiling.

"That's good," she said. "I'll be in the kitchen if you need me."

"Alright, thank you," I said as Arlo pulled me away to his room.

When we walked in there, I saw a girl sitting on a blow-up mattress with dark brown hair that was pulled into a fishtail braid. She was wearing a pink shirt and overalls that had hearts all over them.

"This is Naomi; she used to live next door before she moved to West Virginia," Arlo said, introducing us.

"Pleasure to meet you," I said, shaking her hand.

"You too, I've heard so much about you; Arlo just won't shut up," she said, smiling.

"Naomi," Arlo said, trying to not laugh.

"What, just saying the truth?" Naomi said, walking over to the blow-up mattress.

"You should've come to the bakery with us this morning; we ended up hanging out with some other friends." Arlo said, pulling me over to his bed.

"Who were they?" I asked as I sat on his bed.

"Morgan Stark and November Rogers," Arlo said, smirking,

"Actually!" I said, looking over at Noami to see her nod her head.

"Yeah, November is one of my closest friends, other than Arlo, from when I used to live here, and Morgan is visiting, I think," Naomi said. "Arlo, you should put him in the group chat."

"I should," Arlo said excitedly pulling out his phone.

"What group chat?" I asked.

"The one we made today with me, Naomi, November, and Morgan," Arlo said.

I nodded my head and then texted into the group, Hi, this is Jeff; I'm Arlo's boyfriend. Naomi gave Arlo the idea of putting me in here, so here I am.

"Hey Naomi," I said, putting down my phone.

"Yes?" she said, looking from Arlo to me.

"There's this thing I told Arlo about that I think the Avengers might want to know," I said as I started to pick at my nails.

"Okay, yeah, I can do that. I'm going over to their training base before I leave tomorrow morning. What is it?" she said.

"This," I said, and then I raised my hand and produced this yellow mist that always came when I was nervous.

"Whoa, yeah, I'm definitely telling them about that," Naomi said, looking shocked.

"Thanks," I said, putting my hand back down.

Then Ms. Jackson walked into the room and said, "Who's hungry?!"

The sudden shift in energy was palpable as the scent of fresh food wafted through the air.

"I could eat a horse!" Naomi exclaimed, her eyes lighting up with excitement. Ms. Jackson chuckled and led us to the kitchen, where a feast awaited.

"I made some extra that I already packed for you to take to the new kids in the orphanage," she said, smiling.

"Thank you, Ms. Jackson; they'll love it." I said, smiling.

"Of course," she said as she went to go get everyone something to drink.

"Orohanage?" Naomi asked.

"I'm told that my mom sent me there when I was young, so I don't remember her," I said.

"I'm sorry," Naomi said, giving me a hug.

"It's fine," I said, smiling even though I wished I knew who my mother was.

November's POV

I woke up to Morgan running and jumping onto my bed yelling, "Good morning!"

I mumbled a morning back and then rolled onto my side.

"Come on, Wanda wants to take us to get muffins for the team," Morgan said excitedly.

"Fine," I said as I sat up rubbing my eyes, "if you want me to come get out so I can change.".

"Fine," she said, getting up and leaving the room.

Once I was finished, I found Wanda and Morgan waiting right outside my door.

"Come on, ladies," Wanda said, and we followed her.

Once we were in the city, Wanda said she wanted to go buy something real quick and told us to go ahead to the bakery.

When we got to the bakery, the first person I saw was Naomi.

I walked up behind her and said, "I thought you were leaving yesterday," causing her to jump.

"I was, but Arlo insisted I stay the night," she said, hugging me.

"Of course he did," I said, smirking.

"He is right here," Arlo said, making his presence known.

"Well, come give me a hug," I said, rolling my eyes.

"Sure thing, Princess," he said and came and gave me a hug.

"Oh, this is my boyfriend, Jeff," he said, pointing to the boy beside him.

"Hi, I'm November," I said, shaking his hand.

"Pleasure to meet you; I heard a lot about you last night," Jeff said, smiling.

"That's good to know," I said. "What are y'all doing here?"

"Well, I wanted some muffins before my drive back to West Virginia, and I agreed to take Jeff and Arlo to the training base because Jeff needs to show the Avengers something," Naomi said.

"What do you need to show them?" Morgan asked.

Just as Jeff was about to show us, Wanda ran into the bakery and froze for a second when she saw Arlo, and then she said, "Help."

Then she disappeared.

"What the—" I said before being cut off by a boy running into the room who looked a lot like Arlo.

"My name is Billy Maximoff, and something is coming, something bad," he said, staring at me.

"What is coming?" I asked.

"Battle," he said.

Just then there was an explosion in the bakery, causing everyone to fly a few inches away from where they were standing or sitting and the glass to shatter and for flames to erupt everywhere.

I reached to my ear to send a message in through the com, but my com wasn't there.

"Damn it," I mumbled as I stood up in all the rubble.

"What just happened?" Morgan asked, clutching her wrist.

"Someone attacked the bakery, and Wanda knew," I said, walking over to one of the people that were in the restaurant to check in on them.

"She tried to warn us," Naomi said, "but something about Jeff distracted her."

"I don't know why," Jeff said as he stood up.

"Is everyone okay?" Arlo yelled as he stood up.

There were numerous yeses and noes from the crowd, and we went to go help most of the people when we heard a gunshot.

I turned around to see many of the Hydra guards standing armed and ready for a fight.

"Hey Jeff," I called, looking over at him.

"Yes?" he called back.

"Now might be a good time to show us whatever you were going to show us," I said, meeting one of the guard's eyes.

"Good idea," Jeff said.

Suddenly there was a yellow mist a lot like the purple one I produced when I was kidnapped, and it flew around the guards, attacking them. Several of them fell to the ground dead or injured, but most stood still.

A shot was fired out my way, and I don't know how, but suddenly I was able to produce the purple mist and cause the bullet to fly back to the person who shot it and kill that person.

"Wait, you can do it too?" Jeff called out to me after seeing what I did.

"I guess so," I said.

Suddenly one of the guards eyes turned a blue color, and the guard raised its gun and shot into the crowd of guards.

"What the—" I said but was cut off again by Billy.

He was floating in the air, his eyes blue and blue mist around his fist.

"Holy shit," Arlo said, looking at me.

Suddenly a guard came charging at Naomi, and I was about to jump in front of her when she pulled out a dagger and threw it at the man, hitting him right in the heart.

"What the hell," I said, looking over at her.

"I meant to tell you that I was training to become an Avenger," Naomi said, throwing another dagger.

Suddenly Morgan raised her hand, and this light came out of her palm that looked exactly like the one Tony Stark was able to produce while in his suit; then I realized she had on one of his old gloves.

"My mom insists that I have them on me just in case," Morgan said, seeing my eye.

"Your mom probably just helped save your life," I said.

"Guys, will this gun work?" Arlo asked, holding up the gun from the guy Naomi killed.

"Only if you know how to use it," I said.

"Good thing I do then," he said.

Suddenly, all of the guards charged at us, asking for a fight, and we stood our ground, ready to fight.

Me, Arlo, and Billy all used our mist things to hold back and kill as many people as we could. While Arlo and Morgan shot as many as they could. Naomi was throwing dagger after dagger at people, and they always came back to her.

It looked like we were winning the fight until more people from Hydra showed up to fight, and Arlo ran out of bullets, and I could no longer produce the mist for some reason.

"Arlo, run as fast as you can to safety," I said, looking over at him.

"No, I am going to fight with my fists just like you will, even though I don't know how to," Arlo said with a determined look in his eyes.

"If you die—" I start saying before being cut off.

"I won't," he said.

"Good," I said, looking back at the enemy.

The second wave of guards started charging at us. Arlo and I ran towards them and started fighting the second we were able to.

I knew from the moment the mask came off of the person's face I was fighting one of the people who raped me while I was kidnapped, and now I was even more determined to win this fight.

I punched him in the nose, then kicked him and dodged someone else's punch from behind me and used one of my skills I learned in gymnastics to kick him before he could hit me.

Suddenly someone had a knife and came at me from behind, and the knife dug deep into my shoulder. I had been shot in a week or so prior, causing me to cry out in pain.

As soon as I felt the knife leave my body, I quickly turned around and began fighting the person. I felt the knife graze my cheek, drawing blood, but due to my reflexes, I was able to grab the knife before the man attacked me again.

We fought over the knife until I kicked him in the balls, causing him to double over in pain, and I stole the knife and stabbed him in the chest.

Soon there were no more guards, and we couldn't see any more trucks coming, and we all looked over at each other.

When we did that, we heard people clapping behind us, and we turned around to see the people who were in the bakery when the bomb went off and many other people who were in buildings around us and some police who were trying to get everyone out of there cheering for us.

Once the cheering stopped, one of the policemen walked over to us and said, "That was dangerous but brave; many companies are going to want to know who you are."

We all looked over at each other and smiled.

"What are all of your names?" the officer asked.

"Jeff Port," Jeff said smiling.

"Arlo Jackson," Arlo said, taking a bow.

"Billy Maximoff," Billy said, rolling his eyes at Arlo.

"Naomi Starlight," Naomi said, wiping her forehead.

"Morgan Stark," Morgan said, shaking hands with the officer.

"November Roger," I said, smiling.

The police officer nodded, looking surprised at mine, Morgan's, and Billy's last names.

"And what might we call you all?" the officer asked, looking up from his clipboard.

We all looked at each other and came over into a circle.

"Why is he asking that?" Billy asked.

"For the news," Morgan responded.

Billy nodded and then said, "What do we tell him?"

"How about we all give a team name, and we all vote for whose we think is best that's not yours?" Naomi said.

"Good idea," Jeff said.

"Walk n' Roll," Arlo said, smiling, making us all chuckle.

"Mac & Cheese," Jeff said, causing Arlo to chuckle, most likely at an inside joke.

"The six," Naomi said.

"The Young Avengers," Morgan said.

"The weird ones," Billy said.

"The Young Colors," I say, causing everyone to smile.

After we took the vote, I turned to the officer and said, "You can call us The Young Mice."
