Chapter 16 - 16 - First Dungeon Dive

[Explorer] a job i thought i wouldnt get for another six years but just by entering the dungeon I gained the job, so since it was my lowest job at the moment I removed [Hero] dropping my points by seven, but then gaining one back by assigning [Explorer] as my fifth job.

I lost the buff brought on by the [Hero] job but, with [Explorer] being new it would not take much to raise it's level and get back to a state where sixth job could be chosen once again.

Bringing back the heroic buffs along with it.

But for now I still needed defence.

So with my spare fourteen points I got the rank 3 armor, which was Frostbound a blue tinted armor that cut any damage I received by 1/2 so that was good news.

Beyond that I raise Crit chance to rank 3 getting the buff to 20% and then the remaining three points I used on getting back the sandslippers.

With my build set I drew my Balmung and started my first ever dungeon exploration.

And it didn't take long to find an opponent.

Most parties left the first floor behind long ago and the only persons would find here on this floor were orphans or slumrats like me.

The first floor of this dungeon if you ask me was to easy, but that's still knowing I was 'cheating' in a sense by having modified growth and multiple jobs.

The first floor only had [Goolet] a simple slime floor and being a beginner floor you only ever had to face off against a single one at a time.

I'd fought them before so, swing my blade was easy, and with my armor I didn't even take any serious damage either.

And thanks to that before I knew it my pack on my back was getting full of slime drops, but I reached the first checkpoint, the waiting room and beyond that the floor boss the guardian of the floor, beating this boss would lead you on a path to go up to the next floor, but the boss was considerably harder than the regular monsters on the floor.

Psyching myself up, I pushed through the door and entered, deciding to call it a day after challenging the boss.

And within the boss room a white smoke was emitted from the floor and coalesced until a giant slime that looked like a big bean bag chair was waiting in the middle of the room.

[Gooler] the bosses name was a clear delineation it was the 'evolved' form of a Goolet.

As as skilled as I was at fighting it's children the Gooler proved itself to be hardier, as some of my sword swings were deflected by its gellatinous casing.

But upon seeing this I upped my own game, starting to use my job skills.

[Slash], [Charge] were my primary arsenal and when used at the same time I could deal a crushing blow one that tore its way through the entire body of the boss slime, and dealt enough damage to cause it's defeat as it once more turned to mist and in it's place lay the boss drop.

Goolet's dropped Slime Powder, while Gooler the boss slime dropped Slime Jelly.

Both were common items and their trade in value a the guild was likewise low but oh well, its just the start and well ever iron bit helps.

Once my exploration was over I first went up to the second floor then turn around and went back in the gate which saw me exiting the dungeon and seeing just how long I had been inside for as the sun was already starting to dip low in the distance.

But I didn't have the power to go back to the city by any other means than my own feet so I ran off towards the gate, returning to my new home, but before going to the arena I headed for and entered the Explorer's guild.

The place was a hive of activity with Adventurers calling out various location names trying to drum up business as ferriers, while explorers and parties were lining up to turn in their collected spoils, others were checking out the posting board to see if there were any new special issue quests.

Seeing my own purpose was set I joined the shorter line and waited for my chance to turn in my collected Slime drops.

The longer lines were as expected manned by cute receptionists while my own line had a gruffer looking old man, but eh I was a ten year old who needs the adoration of a cute girl just yet?

Our line efficiently moved forwards while the guys in the other lines had a much longer wait since everyone tried their best to flirt with the receptionists.

When it came time for my turn.

The gruff man didn't say anything just flicked his head a little.

So I took off my pack and placed it onto the counter open.

The man tipped it and let the contents spill out before he then started to get to work.

"one hundred and two Slime Poweders, and one slime jelly, that'll come to 3 coppers and seven iron bits."

"Can I also get one of those black stones the others were getting?"

"You mean a Soul Gem?"

"If that's what it's called yeah."

"You went in without one kid?"

"Didn't know what it was, so no."

"Well then..."

The man took a look behind me just to check but there was nobody else there, so instead of pushing me off, he instead started to explain some things.

Soul Gems were for beginners a way of earning money that was better than selling drops themselves.

The slayers soul gem would absorb each slain monster, and after you reached certain milestones the soul gem would change color, with the start being black meaning 0-9, then turning to be purple, then on and on up the ranks until you reached the greatest rank after crossing the one million mark when the stone would turn white, or clear at which point it was full.

These soul gems were the collection of monster mana or souls or maybe even dungeon power, but they were a power source being used like mana gems, or crystals or even monster cores would be in other fantasy works.

So with that being said I quickly agree to pay the one copper fee to get a soul gem of my own, before placing it into my now empty pack.
