Chapter 22 - Epic Lottery Spin

Returning to his room, Kieran sat down on his bed and took a look at his status again, ignoring his regular old notifications he got from sex.

With a thought, Kieran increased his luck by another 30 points.

[Luck: 684]

"Alright. Shy of breaking through again, this is as good as it gets with my luck stat. I think I want to remain in this realm for a little while. I have things I need to learn that others at the same stage have already mastered. Namely flight, and I also need to pick up a sword. Or a spear…I need to learn to use a weapon. I'm behind those of the same level as far as that's concerned."

Kieran turned his attention back to his system.

[Would you like to use your Epic Lottery Spin?]

"Yes."

[Are you sure?]

Kieran exhaled softly before replying.

"Yes."

The prompt closed and his system had no reaction for a short moment before the window opened back up and displayed a lottery machine he had never seen before.

This one was grand and ornate with designs of dragons and phoenixes engraved into the golden siding encasing the window panel. On the side, instead of a traditional lever, it was the tail of a golden dragon.

The window was dark, so Kieran couldn't get a sneak peak of potential prizes like he could with the regular lottery machine.

"Well, here goes nothing."

Kieran went to tap the screen, but it felt like his hand pushed into a pool of water and his hand came into physical contact with the lever.

"Holy cow! This thing is the real deal! Well, no turning back now. Let's go."

Despite his shock, Kieran kept his cool and grabbed hold of the lever before offering a silent prayer for something good, and pulling the dragon tail lever.

Immediately, the screen came to life. There were images spinning across the screen so fast, Kieran couldn't make out anything. Accompanying the flashing images, was a gentle music. It didn't sound anything like the tacky or mocking jingle of the regular one, it was a soft melody that reminded him of a piano piece, though the instrument sounded slightly different.

Eventually the music stopped and the spinning image came to a slow stop.

One the screen was a picture that Kieran couldn't make heads or tales of. Honestly, it just looked like silver fire or something. He wasn't totally sure with the image on the screen if he got something good or not.

Dong!

Dong!

Dong!

The lottery machine rung out into the air ominously, sounding like a church bell in the distance.

Kieran had long since pulled his hand back, and the screen with the lottery machine faded to black before the prompt closed and reopened with the one he was familiar with.

[Congratulations Host! You have acquired a Supreme Skill!]

[Skill: Matter Over Mind]

[Please note, this skill is not compatible with Mind Over Matter!]

Kieran's jaw sank to the floor. It seemed like he had really gotten something truly good this time!

He was surprised, normally the system was stingy with its things. He really lucked out.

Kieran focused on the skill attempting to learn more about it.

[Would you like to learn the Supreme Skill, Matter Over Mind?]

[Yes] [No]

"It should be fine…right? I'm just learning it, I don't need to use it or anything. Right? Yeah. Surely it's fine."

Thinking this, Kieran decided to select yes while he was hoping for the best.

A silvery orb of flame emerged from nowhere and dashed into his forehead much like his divine cultivation technique.

Unlike his divine cultivation technique, this skill immediately made it feel like he was being bathed in a cool spring. It spread to all of his limbs and his organs and it calmed him greatly, feeling a great soothing peace inside his very own being as whatever it was continued to nourish him.

Soon, the feeling transitioned from a cool spring to a light tingle. It was very strange. Kieran could only liken it to having the desire to cough, but instead of it being in his throat, it was in his chest.

Soon the tingle began to deteriorate and it didn't take long for Kieran to feel like he was burning alive. Kieran immediately began to scream in agony. It felt like his body was coming undone, in fact, it was!

Kieran looked at his fingers and he could see his skin falling away from his hands, and then his muscles and sinew.

It was happening so fast that Kieran didn't have any clue as to what he should do.

And it wasn't just his hands, it was his entire body, his everything was falling away into nothingness!

He tried to stand up, maybe try to get help but he simply fell to the floor, his organs falling from his torso. When he landed, he heard a wet squelch and could see he'd landed on his deteriorating yet still beating heart. But no more once he landed on it.

With a pop, it burst open, spraying dust rather than blood as his blood was fading into ash as well.

The agony was so painful that he was seeing flashes of red, before his eyes fell away too.

Eventually, the agony was so bad he simply stopped moving, his ability to breathe had left a long time ago, and eventually his consciousness faded and he fell into nothingness in his entirety.
