Chapter 24 - I'm very expensive

The crowd that had gathered cheered and waved, with a few girls calling out to Kieran, and one especially daring girl even flashed her breasts at Kieran before being reprimanded by a couple others near her.

"Senior Brother, why don't you come by my abode later? I'll give you a reward for winning!"

"Don't listen to that slut Senior Brother, my room in the outer court is more comfortable than hers so come by my place instead."

"Stupid bitch, who gave you the gall to talk like that to an inner disciple?"

Kieran laughed to himself as the girls fought but didn't dare to look at them.

'These girls are like homeless crackheads. Don't look at them or you'll attract aggro.'

Meanwhile, after her humiliating defeat from someone three realms below her, and from a man no less, Laylia wanted to quickly excuse herself before she was stopped by Kieran.

"Thank you for assisting me, Junior Sister. You were incredibly helpful. Would you like to go grab a bite to eat with me? I'm starving!" Kieran asked politely, as if he hadn't just beaten her ass.

Seeing Kieran act in a humble manner and not gloating over his victory, Laylia felt a little better and relented before walking with Kieran the rest of the way to the food hall.

"How did you manage to beat me back there? I don't think I've ever seen someone beat another person more than a single realm above them, let alone three. Are you an elite from a special family or something?" She asked.

Kieran knew all too well that that wasn't even half of her strength. If she had been allowed to use any special techniques that either restricted movement or even if she had simply flown, he would have had a much harder time. A battle of straight attrition might do him in too.

Kieran laughed to himself before replying.

"Something like that. I'd rather not say more."

He wasn't entirely sure how things would work over here, but he did know that no matter the world, if someone possesses something that others covet, they either lose it or die if they aren't strong enough to keep it.

Finally making his way to a table, Kieran sat down at a random table not bothering with the looks he was getting.

"So how does this work? I just take what's in front of me?" He asked Laylia who had already sat beside him.

"Pretty much. Because the food is consumed so quickly, they refill the empty plates regularly so you don't need to worry about eating too much."

Kieran nodded and filled his plate up with an assortment of foods and pulled his face covering off before he devoured it.

"Wow! This tastes amazing."

Without saying anything more, Kieran demolished his plate and went for seconds.

He didn't know when, but at some point, his table filled up with women who barely ate anything and just stared at Kieran who ignored them knowing again that this was a consequence of being dumb.

Eventually, he ate his fill, with Laylia only taking a few bites of some things.

After eating, Kieran didn't rush to stand up and just turned to look at Laylia who had simply been silently admiring Kieran's mind numbingly handsome face.

"Hey, do you think you can teach me to fly? My master is still in secluded cultivation so I can't disturb her yet. To be honest, I don't actually know anything about the different cultivation stages." Kieran asked with a strange face.

Kieran received strange looks from everyone sitting at the table but only Laylia responded.

"No offence, but how is that even possible? You're at the peak of foundation establishment and you know nothing about cultivation? You'll have to forgive me but I don't believe you." She said strangely.

"Look, I know it sounds strange, but I'm just a fast cultivator. I have talent but I don't know anything beyond the superficial level." Kieran paused briefly before he continued.

"As you can see, I'm a man. As a man, I wasn't exactly taught cultivation growing up. My family had...other uses for me and I was only allowed to perform within those parameters. I truly know very little about the different realms."

Nearby, the girls eyes softened as they felt a pang of hypocritical sympathy. Kieran knew they would lock him in their basement if they ever had a real opportunity.

Laylia pondered for a moment before finally nodding and looking back at Kieran with a gleam in her eyes.

"Fine. I can teach you about the intricacies of cultivation. But there's no such thing as a free lunch. You'll have to pay me. And trust me. I'm very expensive." She said with with half-lidded eyes.

Kieran knew what she was playing at and just smiled.

"I'm sorry, I'm too poor. Is there another way I can pay?"

The girls nearby suddenly widened their eyes as they just realized what was going on before they clamored to try to teach Kieran, but he drowned them out as background noise.

Laylia smiled and stood up before offering her hand to Kieran.

"Come with me to my immortal cave. We have a lot to go over."

Without any delay, they set off and headed to her room.
