The introductions between the teacher and the boy were nonexistent as she studied him from top to bottom and couldn't find a single exploit. I thought only us nomads could be born with magic this doesn't make any sense said the girl to herself quietly. Sir Quicksilver stepped between the girl and his son and said your pupil might think you a rude person if you just stare at him surely a Nomad such as yourself has some form of dignity. The girl blushed turning hot pink and said right I'm sorry in a cute flustered manner. Instilling herself with confidence and a look of determination with more fire than necessary in her eyes she said I am Amelia a step 2 silver grade mage and don't you forget it from today forward I'm your teacher little one.Alexander learned more about Amelia as the days progressed as she taught him more about magic and taught him to read and write basic words. Alexander caught on quickly so she would often shift gears to teaching him about the history of the lands they lived in. Sometimes she would go off topic and even teach him facts about basic monsters he would encounter on his journey. She found that Alexander excelled at just about every magic she threw his way with his affinity being great with every magic type. Alexander learned that Amelia had been traveling on a journey to increase her adventurer rank and had a traumatic event happen to her that caused her to take a break from adventuring with a party. She still has the love for magic and the desire to learn which is why she took on this job to tutor Alexander.Amelia did her best to not talk about herself but throughout the year she couldn't help but tell her pupil Alexander what he wanted to know. He was so cute to Amelia with his little pouty face as his caramel eyes peered through her boots she looked at his almond skin as the son hit him in the perfect lighting Amelia's jaw lay agape in awe at his majesty speaking without thinking she said I sure would love to have a little one just like you one day. Alexander saw her looking at him pouting and said what is it, master? Amelia snapped back to reality and spoke in her usual fiery attitude saying don't think I care about you pouting or anything but it wouldn't hurt to tell you more about nomads as part of your education. My people are such a race that was said to be born to love and protect the planet's mana. Nomads are born with magic and extremely sensitive to it more so than any other race. Nomads are neutral with all races except the Demon kin who are said to be a product of a successful dungeon break a few hundred years back. They have since shown their difference from monsters through their sheer ability to communicate and reproduce with other races. The nomads hate the Demon Kin because their very existence destroys the earth's mana by reciprocating it back into their race no one is truly sure how it works. The time was dashing considering Amelia had already been at the estate with Alexander's family for about 2 years already building a heroic-like reputation. By solving some problems in the city and helping the weak. Amelia looked at Alexander with those appraising eyes of her's saying it's time that you learned a proper spell. Come with me outside. Alexander followed Amelia looking at the back of her head at the mesmerizing blend of snow white and purple. Noticing even her smell was a sweet unfamiliar scent. Alexander was admiring Amelia so closely that he bumped into her back noticing that Amelia's small frame did not budge one bit as he hit the ground. Noticing they went right past his family's farm land close to the entrance of the spider claw woods. Amelia said are you ok little one. Alexander being used to her remarks said you can't be much older than me yourself. Amelia smiled and said flattery will get you nowhere little one I'm 40 years of age at 50 I would usually be considered an adult as a Nomad. Obviously, tradition wasn't a luxury for me. Seeing that this was obviously a subject Amelia didn't want to speak on Alexander remained silent. Amelia broke the silence and said I will start you out with a beginner-level spell. Over the past 2 years I have had you learn to read, write and even familiarize yourself with manipulating mana to use your affinities for basic necessities. Do not confuse manipulation of mana with actually using mana tho. Casting spells is completely different. It requires an incantation. I waited until your body was brimming with the perfect amount of mana. Alexander face contorted confused at how she knew how much mana he had. Alexander fixing his face to ask the question was cut off by Amelia as she covered her lips in a hush expression very cutely saying it's considered rude to ask a girl her age and it's equally so rude to ask someone about their skills she said with a playful laugh. The seriousness in the statement was felt all the same. Amelia spoke to Alexander saying this skill of mine is very rare you are better off not knowing about this little one. I can tell you that I'm able to gauge anyone's mana. Amelia began to pat down her pockets until she pulled out a piece of parchment paper. All magic is extremely useful but wind spells can be especially beneficial. The first spell I'm teaching you is called wind torrent it blast wind at extreme pressures to a target location. Stand back and behold my greatness wind torrent. As she said this she fired off a massive gale of wind that moved shook the trees in front of them with little to no difficulty causing several leaves to fall off the tree and dance in the wind. Alexander knew instantly this amount of force could move a person easily. Alexander looked at Amelia like he had just seen a goddess. Amelia said is this your first time seeing a spell? Alexander just shook his head as his mouth was agape still shocked from the power of the spell. Amelia laughed and said with the amount of mana you have I would say you could activate this spell at least 1 or 2 times. Alexander said you mean to tell me I am capable of what you just did even as I am now? Amelia said of course it could take you a while to master it though. Alexander just shook his head in affirmation and understanding. Amelia said once you complete the incantation you will feel the mana surging forward at this point you must either add more or less mana into your spell before the release. While Amelia is talking Alexander is trying to perform the spell but to no avail. The spell would not activate for him. Finally, Alexander got frustrated and asked Amelia why do we need an incantation for spells but not to manipulate mana. Amelia smiled remembering asking a similar question in her youth. This is because spells use words to structure our intentions without us knowing shaping the spell in various ways it's not unheard of for people to cast without words but it is very uncommon and not much is known about that form of casting. Try that spell again but truly clear your mind and you can do it. The sheer faith Amelia just placed in him made him feel like he can do anything. Alexander was blanketed with warmth as he truly admired Amelia deeply but fear also took root as he did not want to disappoint her.Clearing his mind solely focused on reproducing the spell Alexander said the incantation again fully invested and focused on this one action as he felt his mana stores deplete at an alarming rate he knew he had succeeded as he said behold master Wind Gale he was so giddy that he had succeeded at the cast but what happened next shocked him as he produced a small little gust of wind barely noticeably. Amelia was stuck in a stupor at the fact that he was able to produce the spell. Alexander seeing this felt dejected and looked defeated after failing his cast after such a boast. Amelia laughed and punched Alexander on the shoulder and said don't go and get cheeky just because you think the cast is complete. Hearing her say this and feeling her playful punch on his shoulder caused Alexanders mood to do a full 360 as he smiled. It requires focus until the very release of the spell if not the spell can weaken at the last second and even fail to cast. I won't lie little one I wasn't expecting you to be able to cast for at least another month or 2 but you cast a spell on the first day. It takes incredible concentration and focus sometimes I can't believe your only 5 Amelia said inspecting Alexander with a calculating look cause Alexander to cover his private area feeling fully exposed for a brief moment. Amelia looked back at Alexander and said I want you to increase your mana reserves remember how it felt after you cast that spell? When a person gets really low on mana it burns your life energy connected to your soul. This causes the sleepiness after you run dry. Alexander just nodded his head taking in the information. Alexander then asked a question how do you make your mana reserves bigger? Amelia sat down and patted the ground right next to her prompting Alexander to plop down right next to her. Amelia lifted her hand like she was looking at the time when a dark distorted disk covered her hand as she reached inside and pulled out some sandwiches. She took a big bite and said mana can be replenished through eating or meditation. Alexander noticed the bread was very bulky; the sandwich was the size of an American football. He took a bite and could feel the sandwich dissolve and his mana become replenished if only just by a tad bit. While Alexander looked at the sandwich mystified Amelia sat down perfectly quiet meditating until Alexander interrupted her saying master is there a way to increase mana other then these two methods? Amelia shot one eye open still partially in a meditative state saying these are the only confirmed 2 methods. Alexander knew this must be a blunder as expanding his mana netted him more every time. Alexander decided to keep this a secret as it might later give him the edge in this life. Amelia said sit down and focus as I am and feel the sea of mana within and establish your will to expand this sea once you quiet your raging ocean into a still lake. You can achieve better results in casting. Alexander focused inward but as he did he was overwhelmed with the wildness of his mana trying to calm it down but unlike the spell that he got on the first try his sea would not obey at all. Amelia finally relaxed thinking it would be too much if he calmed his sea in a day as this could take years. Amelia said that's enough for today as they headed back towards the village when suddenly a beastly roar could be heard from the woods as a spider claw with a leg missing climbed to the top of the trees towering over them easily twice their size spat its web at Alexander the boy she had put so much time and work into. My body won't move she thought when suddenly the fear in Alexander's eyes caused her to remember the dungeon massacre of her last party the way the minotaur split her party leader in half with his axe the blood lacing her clothes causing her to be paralyzed by fear so hard that the minotaur had time to walk up to her grab her and squeeze until she felt her bones break fainting. In this moment Alexander understood that in this situation his luck was not good. His brain could barely register the attack but if he was going to see one last thing it should be that goddess of a teacher not the jaws of a bloodthirsty monster. Amelia's eyes locked with Alexander's and as if his eyes were the keys to her shackles she could feel herself move again and whipped out the fastest spell she knew wind blade splitting the spider in 2 then she hit it with another chopping it into 4 pieces ignite blaze of the abyss as she incinerated the foul being into nothingness. Amelia ran over to Alexander slicing the webs holding him down with fire mana. When Alexander was free from the webs Alexander was pulled into an embrace so tight he thought his bones would be crushed grrr. Alexander let loose a groan Im sorry Amelia said I'm just glad your ok tears surfacing as she held him close I thought I was going to lose you. Alexander wiped away her tears and said master a goddess like you could never lose anything you don't want lost. This caused Amelia to blush and laugh as she wiped the remainder of her tears away and said little one your going to be quit the ladies man when you grow up. Heyyy some one yelled near where the spider claw was killed. A group of adventurers came up to us and said have you guys seen a spider claw? You mean the one you forced out to the village that could have killed many of the villagers if I hadn't been here. It's a pile of ash. The party leader visibly irritated just signaled for the group to move forward into the town. One of the party members stopped in front of Amelia and bowed saying I'm sorry for the trouble then ran to catch up with the party as the back of his clanking armor read verified legion. Let's get you home little one. As they arrived in front of the house Alexander said I'm going to get stronger and protect you next time master. Amelia smiled at his confidence as she said I'm sure you will. Goodnight little one.
