Chapter 1 - Chapter 1 Misunderstanding

Huadu, Jia Ren Bar, inside the restroom

Wiping the water off his face, Lin Hai sobered up quite a bit, and couldn't help but sigh at his own reflection in the mirror: "Alas, I'm damn too handsome."

After downing more than a dozen bottles of white liquor just now, even as the world-renowned King of Mercenaries, he found himself slightly overpowered by the alcohol, needing the restroom's cold water to clear his head.

Pulling out a photo from his chest pocket, Lin Hai's face beamed with joy. The girl in the photo was very beautiful, a top-notch beauty, the CEO of a well-known conglomerate, and also Lin Hai's fiancée whom he had not yet met.

Returning after seven years, he hadn't expected to have such a beautiful wife-to-be, his future life was bound to be fabulous, and just thinking about it got him a little excited.

This time returning home, Lin Hai did not plan to revert to his old way of life. The organization he established himself was managed by loyal brothers, and he decided to distance himself from the days of fighting and killing, to live an ordinary life for once.

After sobering up, the urge to go to the toilet often followed, and Lin Hai felt the need to use the restroom.

Lin Hai opened the nearest cubicle door and went to the bathroom.

Having just finished, the men's room door was quietly pushed open, and a flustered figure rushed in hesitantly, biting her red lips silently, creeping in, fearing to bump into any man.

Fortunately, it seemed there was no one else in the men's room, and the woman slightly relaxed.

Her pretty face was pale, her beautiful eyes showing a hint of panic.

Before him stood a very pretty girl in her twenties, dressed in neat professional attire, mature, stable, generous, and graceful, covering her mouth in front of him.

The whole scene seemed to freeze at this moment.

Damn it!

"Ah, you..." She covered her lips, and her stunned beautiful eyes suddenly realized that there was a man in the restroom.

Lin Hai noticed her ears turned red at this moment, her watery eyes showing a hint of grievance, but she tried her best to remain calm, albeit with deep caution when looking at him.

"Cough cough, sorry, I didn't bump into you, did I?" Lin Hai asked in a composed tone.

"I, I seem to have entered the wrong place, sorry."

There was a hint of blush on her pretty face, perhaps due to continuous over-tension, and having a strange man at close range, making her subconsciously back away, misjudging the slipperiness of the bathroom floor.

Stumbling, she was about to fall backward with a soft cry.

Lin Hai frowned slightly, stepping forward, his strong hand quickly reaching to her waist, his arm exerting slight force, and the girl ended up in his arms, avoiding a fall to the ground.

"I'm sorry."

Unsure if because of the awkward moment just now or the accidental collision, she blushed slightly and nodded in apology.

The woman's face was a mix of panic and paleness, and the slightly disheveled hair made her appear quite disheveled.

At this moment, a noise came from outside.

"Why are you shoving me, hey, why can't you be reasonable?"

Moreover, Lin Hai could hear several men's voices, seemingly fierce, like henchmen out for revenge.

Looking at the girl's panicked expression, Lin Hai quickly surmised that those people outside could be looking for this beauty before him.

Lin Hai didn't want to get involved in others' problems, especially since he planned to retire; it was better to avoid trouble. Besides, with such a beautiful woman, if he intervened, it would inevitably drag him into unnecessary trouble.

Just as Lin Hai was about to leave, the girl suddenly let out another cry of alarm, apparently having twisted her ankle, leading to another fall.

Watching as her head was about to hit the ceramic sink, Lin Hai frowned again, turned around abruptly, and with a swift, dazzling technique, he steadied her once again.

The girl nodded in gratitude and said, "Thank you."

After speaking, her cheeks blushed slightly.

"No worries." Lin Hai nodded and pointed at the cubicle they were near, kindly suggesting, "There seem to be a few capable guys outside; you might want to hide in the cubicle for a bit."

After Lin Hai finished speaking, he sighed softly in his heart. He had smelled a faint scent, as fresh and refined as orchids, coming from her; too bad she had offended the wrong person, or she was a lover of some big boss, holding some important evidence. Why else would an ordinary woman get involved in such trouble?

Even under these circumstances, she still kept somewhat composed, which meant this woman had quite impressive mental fortitude.

"Just hide in there; you'll be fine." Lin Hai did not agree or reject, his response vague. He really didn't want to intervene, for back before his return, one move from him would command a hefty fee; most importantly, he didn't want to court trouble.

"Alright, I understand."

The hope that had risen in the woman's heart seemed to shatter in an instant.

Indeed, there weren't that many heroes saving beauties in cheesy stories.

Besides, the man before her dressed like a laborer, reeking of alcohol; he'd probably have no issue going home and beating his wife, but facing those fierce men in black outside, if he didn't wet himself from fear, it would already be a sign of exceptional mental strength.
