"Congratulations. When's the Wedding? I have to clear my schedule beforehand" A woman's noisy voice reverberated in the room and soon, she laughed out loud in utter happiness. The Instagram post she saw before making this call was very heartwarming, she couldn't stop smiling. It's a picture from her bestie's engagement.
"Thanks. We decided to have it on the full moon day of August. There are only two months left from now. Anyway, I don't think it's time for you to laugh. Because... Once I get married, you'll be the only one left unmarried in our entire class. Poor You" The man on the other side of the call mumbled, sympathy dripping out from his voice.
"Shit! Can you please not talk about that right now? I'm already frustrated and I don't need an extra reason for me to slip into depression" Sindhu grumbled in annoyance. She had tonnes of things that were already driving her crazy, she didn't want others to point out her depressingly mechanical solo life.
"Seriously... I don't get it. Someone as successful and talented as you failed to find a decent man time and again. What's wrong with the world? Where did all the good boys go?" The man on the phone sighed tiredly. It was a miracle for him to see his bestfriend stay single for so long. He always thought a long line of men would be waiting for her to take a look at them.
"It's all your fault. I asked you to marry me long ago but you outright rejected me saying you can't handle my temper no matter what" Sindhu wailed, pouring out her sadness and continued "Now that you found a calm and sweet woman, you are happily tying the knot while I am still looking for a man who could accept me for who I am. Take responsibility for your actions. You are the reason that I am the last person to get married in our class"
"Hey, Why is that my fault? You know it better than anyone that I'm incapable of tolerating you... a she devil"
The man was speechless. It takes guts of a whole new level to tackle a woman of her kind. It's like playing with a tigress. Why would he take up such a dangerous task? And being someone as helpless as a little lamb, he would stay as far as possible from her. The more he thought of marrying her, the more his heart trembled in horror.
"What did you say?! How upsetting?" Baffled by her bestfriend's words, Sindhu hung up the phone in anger.
How could she be hard to handle? It's them, men who behaved like true jackasses, made her heart into stone and turned her into woman with an unfriendly personality.
As her bestfriend said, even Sindhu also wondered "Where did all the good men hide?"
It's so hard for her to meet one normal person who would truly accept her for how she looked and not ask her to change herself to meet their expectations.
Just then someone knocked on the door and asked politely "Doctor, are you ready? The patient has been taken into the Operation Room"
Controlling her emotions, Sindhu fixed her clothes and answered the nurse "Yeah. I'm coming"
After a couple of hours, when it's almost time for lunch, Sindhu got a chance to relax. As soon as she entered her office room, she slumped into the chair, lost in thoughts.
Diving into her memory, she recollected how the men she met previously on blind dates treated her.
One asked her to get regular skin whitening treatments as she was too dark for his eyes.
One enquired if she could get treatment soon as he didn't want to have a wife with glasses which would make her look more intelligent than him.
One demanded her to go on a diet immediately and hit the gym as he always wanted a wife with slender figure.
One mocked her for her height and hoped she would always stand next to him wearing high heels to maintain her height.
Thinking she had to stay patient with rabid beings, she left everytime after saying "I think you should immediately go see an Ophthalmologist? I think your eyes had gone blind with all that evilness pooled in your heart and stupidity in your head"
Coming out of her reverie, Sindhu sighed helplessly. It was an absolute waste to think of her past interactions with men.
If not for her father's wish to marry her to a potential man he personally selected, she would have atleast tried to find a man all by herself, fall in love and get married instead of choosing these meaningless matchmaking sessions.
She indeed once tried to find love. However, it was futile as every man she fell for turned out to be a bastard of some kind or other.
One betrayed her and married a rich family's daughter. One broke up with her saying she's too domineering for him to continue their relationship. One was caught two timing and one turned out to be an unemployed man with no real ambitions wanting to freeload on her income.
Not losing hope, she registered into several matchmaking sites. All that's needed was someone to show interest in her profile and contact her. It's been almost an year but not a single man liked her profile.
"God, please. Even the youngest in my gang got married and is carrying at present. Not the first but her second child. What is it that I'm lacking? You are playing with me like this. Not at all fair" Sindhu muttered and wiped the invisible tears flowing down her face.
Like a blessing from the Heavens, the mobile on the table vibrated.
Not thinking much, Sindhu picked up the mobile to see who contacted her. It was a message from her mother. She read the message for the second time to make sure she wasn't seeing things.
The message said "I got you a great match. Get married asap or you'll regret for a lifetime"
Below the message was a picture.
