Chapter 2 - Chapter 02

"What the heck?! Mom's unbelievable" Sindhu yelled in shock. She had never seen her mother act so swift.

She was so fed up with her father's choices, she asked her mother to help her find a nice man. But never in her dreams did she expect her mother, Sujatha to be this competent. She's capable of finding someone in a single day.

Not wasting another second, Sindhu scanned the picture attached to the message she received. The person in the photo looked fine to her eyes. She had no complaints or whatsoever.

She only hoped this man wouldn't disappoint her like others when she meets him.

Taking a deep breath, Sindhu dialled her mother's number. She had to grab the opportunity of meeting the man in the photo as soon as possible as she didn't want to be the last one to get married.

If everything works out to her expectations, she wants to get married earlier than her bestfriend, Raj. She didn't mind betraying him as she thought he deserved it for rejecting her proposal.

"What do you think of him?" Sujatha sounded very eager. She couldn't wait to get her daughter married to that fine man.

"Looks fine to me. When can I meet him?" Sindhu asked matching her emotions with her mother's.

Sindhu couldn't keep herself calm. On one side, she's eager to get married and on the other, she's worried she'll lose a great chance if this man turned out to be like those men she came across in the past.

However, her mother dropped a bomb smoothly which caught Sindhu off-guard. "What's the hurry? You can meet him in your wedding ceremony. And that will be this sunday. Just a few days from today. I'm just informing you so that you know what's happening in your life. Okay"

"Mom! How can you make those decisions all by yourselves, without asking me? What about my opinions? Don't you care about me? I don't know anything about him. How can I get married to a stranger?"

"Didn't I already tell you that I'm just informing you and not asking for your damn permission. And from now on, no one cares about your opinions. You come up with all kinds of nonsensical reasons to reject the men your father finds. I'm not like your father. Your tantrums don't work with me. Understand"

Sindhu's face was ashen. She's utterly dispirited, with her shoulders slumped. It took her almost a minute to regain her senses "But mom..."

"There's no but.You asked me to find a man for you. I found one and you are marrying him. That's all" With that, Sujatha hung up the call giving no other choice to Sindhu but accept her elaborate plans.

"Arghh... What in the world did I just got myself into?" Sindhu threw her mobile phone onto the table causing its screen to break and a few cracks forming on it.

Pacing in her office room while fumbling with her hands, Sindhu thought of any thing that could stop her mother.

Right now, she was clearly regretting her previous actions. Probably, asking her mother to help her find a man was the biggest mistake she ever did in her life.

Sindhu called her mother again and tried to stop her mother's plans but nothing worked, to her misery.

She even resorted to blackmail her mother and all that she received was "Get married first and then you can cut ties with us"

Sindhu was put in such a deep troublesome situation, she came up with a fever the very same night.

...

Two days went by in a blink.

After a whole lot of contemplation, Sindhu finally came to a decision. "Alright. I'll get married for now and if I find him unsuitable, then I'll divorce him. Getting a divorce is nothing these days"

She immediately sent the photo of the man she received from her mother to one of her friends.

After reading the man's information, Sindhu was stunned and found it very ridiculous that her mother was working so hard only to marry her off to an insane man.

Gulping all her emotions down, she asked for a few days of leave from her work and booked a flight to her hometown.

As soon as she entered her family house, she was greeted by a group of women. Amidst the bouts of headache, Sindhu smiled and exchanged greetings with everyone.

Her maternal grandmother couldn't stop crying in joy while other women kept nagging her for getting married so late.

She felt like dying dealing with everyone until Sujatha walked out of the kitchen and yelled "Enough, everyone. Do you want to tire her out?"

Sindhu sighed in relief after watching her mother save her from the noisy women. She was grateful but again, she couldn't escape her mother's wrath.

"Why are you so late? It's already 6AM. We need to reach the venue by 9AM. Do you want to see me die of embarrassment after making my in laws wait for me?"

Sindhu wanted to retort but stayed silent for the time being. She didn't want to argue with her mother infront of a bunch of nosy women only to be called rude and disrespectful by them.

She walked directly into her room and then into the bathroom. By the time she came out of the shower, there stood her sister, Veena with a big makeup box lying on the bed.

"Don't worry, sister. Just leave everything to me. I will turn you into the most beautiful woman ever" Veena smiled walking towards Sindhu.

Although Veena tried the best she could to cloak her true emotions, Sindhu managed to guess the kind of evil thoughts running in her mind.

My god! What idiotic things would this monkey do to me if I leave my face in her care? I can't afford to ruin my face now. It's better to get ready by myself.

Sindhu muttered in her head before smiling at her mortal enemy. "I'm fine, thank you. I can manage by myself," saying that, Sindhu pushed her sister out of the room mercilessly and took a deep breath, talking to herself.

"I'm already good enough. It's the guy's problem if he finds my natural look ugly"

After sending her beloved sister out, Sindhu applied a few skin care products thoroughly and then asked her mother to help her in draping the saree.

In a royal blue saree with intricate gold thread detailing, Sindhu was adorable. All that's missing was the jewellery that would only elevate her looks.

Watching herself in the mirror, Sindhu was satisfied. She twirled like a little girl waiting for compliments from her mother.
