Chapter 3: Nuan Nuan, You're All I Have
Leng Changsheng's eyes narrowed instantly, as if his son's sharp words had stabbed him directly.
After a moment, Leng Changsheng let out an icy laugh. "Do you think your mother was the kind of selfish woman who'd hoard what she didn't want, unwilling to share with others?"
Leng Haoran froze, rendered speechless by the biting remark.
Hong Hong lowered her gaze and said softly, "When your father and I fell in love, it was long before he met and married your mother. I've waited for him all these years—don't we deserve to be together now?"
Her quiet words hung heavy in the air, silencing everyone at the table. No one could find the words to respond.
After breakfast, Haoran and I went upstairs hand in hand to his room.
I helped him pack his luggage, carefully folding his luxurious handmade suits and shirts into the suitcase. He lay back on the bed, watching me with a distant expression before finally speaking in a low voice:
"My mother waited for my father for 24 years, sacrificing herself, only to die bitter and unfulfilled. She never had his heart. And in the end, another woman swoops in to take her place. Nuan Nuan, where's the justice in that?"
I stayed silent, casting him a brief glance before letting him grab my hand, holding it tightly. He pulled me down suddenly, and I fell into his arms.
Wrapping his arms firmly around my waist, he buried his chin into my soft hair and whispered gently, "Nuan Nuan, you're all I have."
"Haoran," I murmured, returning his embrace, knowing how much he needed comfort.
"Nuan." His breathing grew uneven as he tilted my chin up, his dark eyes locked onto mine. His brows furrowed as he said, "Kiss me…"
I paused, gazing at him, before planting two light kisses—one on his forehead, the other on his cheek.
"I'll be away for a few days. Promise me you'll take care of yourself, okay?" His voice was thick with emotion as he held me close, his breath warm against my ear.
"I will." I patted his shoulder lightly and resumed folding his clothes.
Resting his head on my shoulder, he muttered, "Nuan, I've waited for you for over a decade. God knows how much I want to make you mine, but I promised your father…"
"One year and ten months—it'll pass in the blink of an eye," I reassured him.
Our families had already agreed: I would marry him when I turned 20. That was the reason my father had allowed me to move into the Leng household.
At 11 a.m., I walked Haoran to the door. He wouldn't let me accompany him to the airport.
I had lunch alone that day. Leng Changsheng and Hong Hong didn't show up; Aunt Yun said they had gone out.
The sky, clear and vibrant blue after the morning rain, was bathed in golden sunlight. After lunch, I felt restless at home, so I called my best friend Ding Xiaoruan to go shopping.
Xiaoruan readily agreed. We arranged a meeting spot, and I called a cab to pick me up at the Leng family's gate. Grabbing my bag, I said a few words to Aunt Yun before heading out.
At the mall, I met Xiaoruan, and we spent the entire afternoon browsing the shops, floor by floor, laughing and chatting. By the time we were exhausted, we found a Western restaurant to sit down for dinner.
While scrolling through our WeChat group chats, we saw a buzz in our high school classmates' group. Someone suggested a karaoke outing tonight, and it caused quite a stir. Feeling bored, Xiaoruan and I immediately agreed. Together, we decided to head to the city's most famous KTV, "Blue Night."
After dinner, we hailed a cab to "Blue Night." As soon as we got out, I noticed a jet-black Rolls-Royce Phantom parked out front. Its design was unmistakable.
The back door opened, and out stepped Leng Mofan.
