Chereads / The Heir To Nothing / Chapter 6 - A New Beginning

Chapter 6 - A New Beginning

"Aaaaaa... can you take these damn things off now?" Alric growled, the iron digging into his skin. Melissa just stared at him, that same thoughtful frown on her face. She was playing some game in her head, he knew it.

"Don't try anything," she said, voice low.

Alric scoffed, but stayed put. No point pushing her.

Melissa reached down, her hand disappearing under her dress. From a little pouch hidden between her breasts, she pulled out a key. Weird how he noticed that, but he did.

She started working with the lock, the metal clicking against the iron. Time seemed to slow down. He was ready to run, to flee, but he didn't.

Finally, click. The chains fell away.

As soon as the chains broke see... a screen appeared in front of him.

Alric knew what was happening. How couldn't he?

As a royal, he had access to a large amount of forbidden knowledge, in the dusty book shelfs, in the depths of the royal library.

Knowledge about ancient relics, of immense power.

Legends of forgotten powers, legends of those who dared to wield them.

He had devoured all of them. He knew of the Relics of immense power, rumored to have fallen from the heavens it self.

He knew of their unpredictable nature, their ability to awaken latent abilities within those who consumed them.

He understood why this hadn't happened immediately.

Elysian.

The metal that bound him. It was renowned for its ability to suppress magic, to act as a cage for the extraordinary. The chains, forged from that very metal, had effectively muted the awakening of the Relic within him until now.

"Those chains... they were made of Elysian?" Alric asked, his voice calm, a dangerous glint in his eyes.

Melissa raised an eyebrow, surprised by his knowledge. "Yes," she replied, "so, you really did consume the relic."

"I did," Alric replied with a prideful smile. He felt a rush of power, and a sensation that spread through his body. It was amazing, a little sapling, but it was there. The power of the Void.

"What's powers are you borrowing?" Melissa asked with a straight face, interested by the boy's sudden confidence.

"I will tell you later," Alric replied, a mischievous glint in his eyes. He was pondering over the fact that his power was so overpowered. It wasn't that OP... in the hands of a dumbass, that is. But Alric was smart. He knew this was overpowered. And the perfect match for him.

He closed his eyes, focusing on the sensation that was over him.

The air felt thicker and the shadows deeper, as if the darkness was drawn to him.

He could almost taste it, a strange energy ranning under his skin.

It was intimidating. Terrifying. And utterly amazing. He felt a connection to something big and ancient, something beyond human comprehension. The power of the Void, raw and untamed, ran within him, promising a future filled with both wonder and danger.

He was now... a [user].
