Chereads / The Heir To Nothing / Chapter 9 - broken nose

Chapter 9 - broken nose

"And since we are both Relic users and pirates," Melissa declared, jumping off the deck of the ship and landing gracefully on the soft sand, "we do both."

Alric just stood there in a daze on the deck of the ship under the shining sun.

He sighed.

He knew why she was saying that to him and he knew why the ship stopped where it stopped and why she jumped off the deck.

Wasn't it obvious? Why wouldn't it be? It surely was obvious, they were here to kill... kill those big fuckers... the titans.

He remembered laying his eyes upon a titan years ago, when he was still a small kid, in the now so distant land for him... the kingdom he grew up in and was also the heir to.

It was a big fucker... like a mountain. No, it was bigger than a mountain. At least a few kilometers. He was certain that it was his doom. But fate said no, fate was a cruel bitch, he couldn't change it no matter what he did.

Sometimes he even wondered if fate was even a thing? Or was it just made up like the lies of his brother, father, sister, and mother.

He remembered how it took the entire kingdom's resources to defeat that one single fucker. And there were supposed to be hundreds of like it in this cursed world.

Sometimes he wished this world would be a lot more like the world he used to read in some novels, ah! Earth... that's what it was called... how there was no danger there, how there were no relics or titans there, it was but a small genre. But people loved to dream of a reality that would never come true.

The day that titan breached the tall and so-called 'unbreakable' walls of the kingdom, it was a calamity, a far bigger calamity than you can imagine.

Children, women, men... everyone died equally.

And today... he was going to face something like that... surely not exactly that... something weaker, much, much, much, much weaker.

Yes! Alric was a coward, not entirely, but he was one. He wouldn't take risks unless necessary or if he was forced to take the risk. He won't take any action before thinking it through, and today, he did think it through.

Alric slowly started to walk towards the edge of the ship's deck. His black robes fluttering roughly in the wind. His hair a mess from the strong winds that were blowing around.

Alric slowly stepped on the fence of the ship... he closed his eyes, he could hear it... he could hear them... he could hear their roars. 'Last chance to turn back' he thought inwardly, warning himself before he did anything reckless.

"Come down here, you breat! How long are you going to take!?" Melissa's shout echoed in his ears.

He smiled gently as he looked down on Melissa from the top of the ship's fence.

He got ready to act all cool and jump from the ship to the shore... But. Luck was not with him thus yet again...

Just when he was about to jump from the fence of the ship to the shore. Albert slapped his back trying to encourage him because he looked 'nervous'.

Alric lost the tiny amount of balance he had from the strong slap on his back and fell down from the fence of the ship face-first.

'I'm a failure' he thought inwardly while he was falling. Soon enough, he fell down on the soft and wet sand of the shore, face-first, breaking his nose. The wet sand sticking to his face.

Sure the sand was soft and wet, but it was still a solid substance at the end of the day, it still hurt falling on sand.

Albert flinched at his mistake, he descended to the shore in a hurry and helped Alric get up. "Sorry, sorry, Sorry. I didn't know you would fall" Albert apologized.

Melissa just stood there laughing.

"Fuck you two!" Alric shouted at both Albert and Melissa, holding his bloody broken nose.

"I told you I am sorry, okay!" Albert shouted back and then placed his hand on Alric's bloody nose and used the power of his Relic. A bright green light engulfed Alric's nose, and in a matter of seconds, his nose was back to normal and not twisted or shaped wrong way.

He sighed in relief that his perfect nose was back.

"Handy ability," Alric muttered in surprise.

"It is," Albert told pridefully.

Melissa stopped laughing, and the smile on her face disappeared like water on fire.

She sensed it, she sensed them, they were here. The titans. They were here.

Albert frowned as Melissa's smile faded, and he stood up. "What's wrong, Captain?" he asked Melissa because he knew that something was wrong, her face said it all.

Alric stood too, frowning like the two of them.

"Alric... stay back and watch the show," Melissa told in a light voice with a serious expression.

Albert sighed and unsheathed his long sword. "So they are here?" Albert muttered.

"Yes," Melissa replied.

Alric couldn't find words to say. What were here? Were they Humans? Or something much... much much worse. Were they titans...

Melissa shook her head, and her hand disappeared in the folds of her dress yet again.

From between her breasts, she pulled out a long and beautiful sword, it was black and red in color, and it had an aura of its own.

Alric was in shock, he could barely even speak. How could one speak after they saw what Alric saw.

Seriously? A sword out of all the things she could keep there?

'That's absurd' he thought in his mind, ofcorse he'd.

Alric didn't know what to say, he didn't know what to think. He was utterly speechless down to his soul.

Soon enough, he recovered from one of the biggest shocks in this but small life of his.

"What the fuck!?" He muttered to himself under his breath.
