Ember's POV
The walk ended without me knowing because I saw the sunlight peaking at me. That's to say I stayed out through the night. I felt as if I'd been cheated by time.
"When did the night go?" I asked out loud.
"You sat there gazing into nothing, and you're asking that?" A grumpy voice said in reply.
The voice was faint but very audible. I paused my movements and stayed alert.
"Raine, did you notice the presence?" I asked my wolf telepathically.
"Since last night." She replied quickly.
"Why wasn't I aware of this?"
"He only watched your movements. He made no move towards you, and I didn't sense any bad intentions from him."
"Whether he has bad intentions or not, what he's doing is illegal. He's stalking me." According to Raine's words, I've been able to deduce that he's a man.
"What should we do then?" Raine enquired.
"Is he still there?"
"Yes, but he's currently checking his phone."
"Let's move!" I said quickly as I ran, leaving only an afterimage.
Being a wolf comes with some perks like super speed, super strength, heightened sight and hearing, and a wolf you can talk to telepathically. Running a short distance like this with a speed faster than light, 'I'm just saying' is not draining.
"Did we lose him?" I asked Raine
"We did."
As I climbed my bed after entering my room, my thoughts began to flow, trying to find anything that may lead to me having a stalker. I am not the kind of beauty that will bring "nations to their feet," so I am sure the stalker is not attracted to me. Why stalk me? What have I done to bring attention to myself? As far as I know, I've always kept a low profile since I came.
"Please don't tell me." My eyes shine in realisation.
I stood up and started pacing around the room.
"Fuck! Fuck!!!" I cussed out in frustration pulling my hair while at it.
I punched and kicked the wall while cussing out again.
"You had to push someone and knock her out cold," I said in frustration.
"You didn't even know the person! You just had to act on impulse because of your damned mate scent!" I yelled in frustration. I kept on kicking the wall. A knock at the door brought me back from my self-reprimanding episode.
"Is everything okay in there?" Koko's low voice asked in caution.
"Everything is okay in here, just some refurbishing," I said. I caught sight of my reflection in the mirror, my bloodshot eyes red due to lack of proper rest, my hair frizzy, and my lips pale.
"Okay then," a reply came from the other side of the door.
'But refurbishing this early? Something is definitely wrong with her…' I heard her quietly mumble as she left.
I sat on the floor, looking defeated.
"Raine, how did this happen? How did I let myself react like that?"
"…" Raine gave me silence as a response. I understood her because I won't be able to answer me either.
"I want to see dad." I squeaked out
"Me too," Raine replied immediately.
I could sense her longing from the bond. Although the memories I have of my pack are not very fond, I miss my father. He is my fond memory.
"Let's go stay in the pack till this passes over." I stated, but it sounded like a question.
"It's for the best," Raine agreed.
Xavier's POV
After the uneventful visit to the hospital, 'I wish I didn't have to come here ever.' I left for the hotel I am currently staying at. I didn't want to go home because of the chaos that's still residing there, "my future mother-in-law." I don't want to deal with her at all.
I called Chase for an update as I glanced at my wristwatch. 'The night went fast.' I mumbled
"Sir," Chase said immediately, maybe because I was a bit excited about the girl that I didn't notice the slight hesitation in his voice.
"Anything new?" I was itching to hear something amazing.
"I got caught," he said softly.
I paused to process what I heard.
"She saw you?" I asked carefully.
"No, I am not sure, but she took off after hearing something I whispered."
I smiled broadly; she has super hearing for sure. Chase is a trained shadow guard, and I know the distance he keeps to stalk someone is not a close one.
"Did you give her a chase at least?" I wanted to know how fast she was.
"I only saw an afterimage of when she took off," he sounds astonished. I would really love to see that.
"You know her home address, right?" I confirmed
"Yes, sir, I am at the front of the house."
"Don't let anything she does go unnoticed by you."
"Yes sir"
I disconnected after that. She's definitely interesting; I want to know more about her and her abilities. I may sound crazy; sue me! Everyone has an obsession, and mine is everything supernatural. What we have about her now is her super strength, heightened hearing, and speed. She is definitely a werewolf, but she can also be a demon. I'm curious to unravel her secrets.
'It may have been easier to capture her and get that information from her, but where's the fun in that?' I smile at myself. I have patience; I can unravel her, but by bit...
I went to have my bath before preparing for work again. I don't get any rest in this line of business I chose. I can grab a few hours of sleep after the meeting this morning. I let out a breath of exhaustion.
"I need a vacation."
Walking into the company with little sleep can make anyone cranky, and right now, I am cranky as hell.
"Do it over." I felt the presentation was not perfect.
"But sir, we worked on it for more than a month," a staff member I don't know said. I can feel the atmosphere tense up as some bold employees looked at me to check my reaction.
"Who are you?" I asked with a hint of evil glint in my eyes.
"My humble self is Raymond Stone," he said.
I picked up the office phone on my desk and rang the HR department.
"Hello sir, what can I do for you?"
"Raymond Stone is excused from work for the rest of the year," I hung up immediately.
"You may resign if you feel I am being unfair," I said with a slight smirk on my lips. I enjoyed it as his face changed colour from white to red, then purple.
"You're all dismissed," I said, using my hand to motion them towards the door.
They all scurried like frightened children out of the meeting room. This office work is too boring to me. These people are just too weak and audacious. My eyes squinted in disgust.
'I need that old man to leave, then I can do whatever I want,' I thought with a smirk on my lips.
I looked at the time; it's a bit past midday. My schedule is free till seven. I went into the inbuilt bedroom in my office that can only be accessed by the trap door behind my bookshelf. I need some shut eye.
